It features a screening of the documentary, In This Heaven/Rings of Fire, which focuses on the challenges of opioid addiction and treatment in Ontario’s remote First Nations communities. It explores the tireless efforts of Mae Katt, a First Nations nurse practitioner, and a mobile drug addiction treatment program she runs in the under-served Matawa First Nations communities of northern Ontario. The documentary reveals the dual struggle of Matawa communities to reclaim their health and determine the shape of their future on their land. Following the documentary, which was produced and directed by Candida Paltiel (who will be in attendance), a high profile panel will discuss the broader context of the health, social conditions and economic circumstances of First Nations Peoples, including proposed solutions to advance their well-being.
