Animal Task ForceGeneral introduction
Promoting a sustainable and competitive livestock sector in Europe
The Animal Task Force (since 2011)
• A European Public-Private Platform (PPP): research, farmers’ & industry organizations
• Promoting a sustainable and competitive animal production sector in Europe;
• By fostering knowledge development and innovation in Europe;
• Covering the whole animal production chain.
• ATF in close cooperation with
Why ATF? Livestock production is vitally important for Europe’s
future (€130 billion to the EU economy - 35% of the agricultural
sector, employment for nearly 30 million people).
In 2050: 9 billion people with increased buying powerand an increased demand for animal products (200 %).
Environmental pressure of animal production has to godown (even if EU livestock sector has already high standards
regarding environmental impact and animal welfare).
We need new integrated approaches to increaseproduction and overcome new challenges.
> Innovations in the whole production chain are essential.
What we do:
Arrange dialogue on sector innovationwith key stakeholders in Europe.(EC, Members of Parliament, industryorganisations, NGOs, scientific community)
Enhance cooperation in European
research & innovation
Provide input for EU research agenda
(Horizon2020, EIP-Agri, JPI FACCE, SCAR)
