1. MACHINE DESCRIPTION

GENERAL INFORMATION

The FARMER-VARIO-3S range marks the development of a range of reversible ploughs on a modular construction basis. The main emphasis has been put on trouble-free functioning, highest possible reliability, simple handling, low weight yet high strength and economical operation. V&N ploughs are the product of many years of development and experience.

The V&N reversible plough has been built expressly for normal operation in agricultural work (operation in accordance with design purpose). Correct use also includes compliance with the manufacturer's operating, service, and maintenance requirements. The manufacturer does not accept any liability or warranty for damage resulting from unauthorised changes to the machine.

! G e n e r a l s a f e t y a n d a c c i d e n t p r e v e n t i o n r e g u l a t i o n s : !

Follow instructions on general safety and accident prevention regulations in this manual as well as generally applicable safety and accident prevention regulations.

1) Operators shall wear no loose clothing. Solid footwear must be worn.

2) Special care is to be taken when handling any sharp and pointed tools and equipment parts.DANGER OF INJURY!

3) Before initial operation, please familiarize yourself with all installation and operating mechanisms, aswell as their function both on the tractor and on the plough.

It is too late to do this during working operation.

4) Use only stipulated parts for mounting the plough.

5) Mounting category (pin diameter, ball diameter) for three-point linkage must be compatible fortractor and plough.

6) Special care must be taken when mounting or dismounting the implement onto or from the tractor.

7) Prior to connecting and disconnecting implement to the three-point suspension, place operatinginstallations in such a position as to prevent inadvertent lifting or lowering.

8) When using external operation for three-point linkage, do not step between tractor and plough.

9) Make sure nobody gets between tractor and implement without vehicle being secured by theparking brake and/or wheel chocks to prevent it from rolling away.

10) Before starting vehicle, check its road and operating safety!

11) Stickers concerning safety warnings need to be kept clean and legible! If damaged, they must bereplaced.

12) Couple implement in accordance with regulations. Handling, steering and braking are all influencedby implement, and ballast weight. Therefore ensure that the steering and brakes are not impaired.

13) The highway code must be observed at all times when using public roads.

14) When implement is in transport setting, make sure there is enough lateral locking of the tractor'sthree-point stabiliser bars!

15) Packer arms must be slewed in and locked before road transport.

16) Observe authorised axle loading, support weights and total weight.

17) Check surrounding vicinity (children!) before driving off.

18) Take into account large overhang and/or momentum of the implement when driving round corners.

19) Do not leave driver's compartment whilst tractor is in motion.

20) Riding on the implement during work or transportation is not permissible.

21) Before leaving the tractor lower implement to the ground, switch off the engine and removeignition key.

22) Before each transport journey, check the implement for any damage, material fatigue, as well as forsafe functioning of relevant safety parts for the transport journey.

23) If using subsoilers, the subsoiler(s) must be dismounted on the release side and removed to ensurethe stability of the plough.

24) Make sure that no people or animals are within work and swivel area of the plough. The machineoperator is responsible for people and animals in work area.

25) All hydraulically controlled moving parts have shear and squash zones!

26) The implement must only be parked on flat, firm, and horizontal ground. Danger of overturning!

27) Place stand supports in correct position and fasten securely when mounting or dismounting theplough.

28) Service, maintenance, and adjustment work shall only be carried out when tackle has been loweredto the ground.

29) For replacement parts or accessories use only original parts. Do not make any "independent"changes to the implement.

30) When carrying out electrical welding work on the tractor and mounted implement, disconnectcable from the generator and battery

32) When connecting the hydraulic tubes to the tractor's hydraulic system, ensure that the hydraulicsare depressurised on both the tractor side and the implement side

33) Label coupling boxes and plugs to prevent errors of operation. Confusing the connections willresult in reversed functions (e.g. lifting / lowering) = RISK OF ACCIDENT.

34) Check hydraulic tube lines regularly and replace if damaged or worn. The replacement lines mustmeet the technical requirements of the implement manufacturer.

35) Fluids (hydraulic oil) escaping under high pressure can pass through the skin and cause seriousinjuries. In the event of injury, seek medical advice immediately. Risk of infection

36) Lower implements to the ground before working on the hydraulic system. Depressurise system andswitch off engine.

37) Check nuts and bolts regularly for a secure fit and tighten where necessary.

38) For maintenance work - e.g.: the replacement of worn parts – which is undertaken when theimplement is raised, always secure with suitable support mechanisms.

39) Replacement parts must at least meet the technical requirements stipulated by the implementmanufacturer. This is guaranteed by using original replacement parts.

3. PREPARATIONS TO TRACTOR AND PLOUGH

PREPARATIONS TO TRACTOR

Familiarize yourself with all functions on the tractor. Read operating manual of tractor manufacturer before use. It is too late to do this during working operation.

Tyres: Tyre pressure, especially that of the tractor's rear wheels, must be identical.

Ballast weights:

Ensure adequate front ballasting of your tractor. The weight of the plough on the rear lifting mechanism of your tractor relieves the load on the front axle and can impair the steering and braking behaviour.

The tractive power transmission (slip) is moreover improved in fourwheel-drive tractors.

Lifting rods: The lifting rods H must be set (differently) so that landside and plough beam are at right angles to the ground a, b. If the lifting rods H can be adjusted on the lower connecting rods U, then they should be set as far back as possible. This relieves the load on the tractor's hydraulic system.

Lateral stability of lower connecting rods: The lower connecting rods U need to have maximum possible lateral movement during operation. Stabilizing bars or tension chains S must never be tight during ploughing. During transportation, the lateral movement of the lower connecting rods U must be greatly reduced or fully blocked.

Controlling: For tractors with hydraulic control, ploughing is mainly done using tractive power or draft control. Mounting and dismounting of the plough is to be carried out in position control!

Clearance:

"CLEARANCE" = the inside distance between the wheels must be the same for both the front and rear.

PREPARATIONS TO PLOUGH

Lubrication points A must be lubricated regularly with a grease gun (lubricator nipple). The spindles must also be greased regularly.

Use only high-quality grease - as this will increase the implement’s service life.

Lubrication: All lubrication points are to be lubricated (see lubrication plan).

Protective varnish: Peel off protective layer from plough blades and mould boards.

4. MOUNTING AND DISMOUNTING THE PLOUGHESSENTIALLY:

• The plough must only be mounted onthe tractor’s lifting mechanism usingoriginal parts with compatible connectionsize (category II or III).

• Before mounting and dismounting theplough onto and from the tractor’s liftingmechanism, place the control lever forthe hydraulic system in such a positionthat inadvertent lifting or lowering of thethree-point linkage is impossible.

• When mounting or dismounting the plough onto or from the tractor, and whenoperating the lifting mechanism, ensure that there is nobody between ploughand tractor.

• There must be nobody between the tractor and implement unless the tractor issecured by the parking brake and/or wheel chocks to prevent it from rollingaway. Switch off engine, remove ignition key.

• There is a risk of tipping when the plough is being dismounted. It is thereforeessential that the implement be secured with stand supports.

• The plough must only be mounted and dismounted on firm, level ground.

MOUNTING PLOUGH TO TRACTOR Stand the plough in working position and connect to tractor as follows:

• For models of a four-share design and above, the quick hitch bar must have a pin diameter of 36mm.

• Use only the specified quick hitch bar: Quick hitch bar: Cat.II/28 = shoulder size 825Cat.III/36 = shoulder size 825Cat.III/36 = shoulder size 965

• Set hydraulic control of tractor to position control.

• Connect lower connecting rods to quick hitch bar and secure with linch pins.

• Release stand support, turn by 90° respectively push upward and secure again.

• Connect upper connection rods of tractor in one of the both holes in the head stock with connectingbolt and secure with linch pin. Preferably use long slot in connecting body - specifically for multi-furrow (4-,5-share) ploughs - so that upper connecting rod can move freely during ploughing(Advantageous on hilly ground). Connect upper connecting rod in such a way that attachment pointon plough is higher than that of attachment on tractor during operation.

• Connect hydraulic tubes or hoses on controlling unit of tractor.

• For plough work set hydraulic control to traction control or mixed control. Please refer also to theoperating manual of tractor manufacturer.

DISMOUNTING PLOUGH FROM TRACTOR

• Park plough on solid flat ground.• Switch hydraulic control mechanism to position control.• Remove upper connecting rod from mounting body.• Release stand support, push downward and secure again.• Disconnect lower connecting rods from quick hitch bar.

5. ADJUSTING THE PLOUGH

GENERAL INFORMATION When using the plough for the first time, it is recommended that the diverse rough adjustments be carried out in the yard. If these adjustment recommendations are followed, it is generally only necessary to make small correcting adjustments on the field. The adjustments are made with the plough mounted on the tractor! UPPER CONNECTING ROD Connect upper connecting rod O to plough headstock N in such a way that it is raised to some extent in the direction of the plough. In general: When using a support wheel (double support wheel, swing support wheel, transport swing support wheel), the upper connecting rod should be fitted in one of the long holes (slots) and should lie in the front third of the long hole during operation (see Figure). When using a plough without a support wheel, the upper connecting rod is fitted in the hole (bore) in the plough headstock. SUPPORT WHEEL The support wheel is set as required depending on intended working depth. To this end, the vertical distance between the lower edge of the wheel and the share plane is measured and, if necessary, corrected. The wheels are then adjusted vertically as explained below. ROUGH ADJUSTMENT OF PLOUGH ON TRACTOR

Rough adjustment of plough is firstly carried out using the slide block guide by means of the width

adjustment spindle (V) in accordance with the different clearances between the tractor wheels (A) and the set cutting width (S).

Allgemein gilt:

Bei einer Spur- und Schnittbreitenverstellung muss bei einem Verstellmaß größer als + (-) 3cm die Turmstrebe T vorne oben und hinten unten gelockert werden bzw. die Gewindespindel P dementsprechend verlängert oder verkürzt werden!

WORKING POSITION

Increase: Set hydraulic adjustment control to greater depth, shorten upper connecting rod, raise depth wheels

Decrease: Set hydraulic adjustment control to smaller depth, lengthen upper connecting rod, lower depth wheels.

DEPTH ADJUSTMENT VIA HYDRAULIC ADJUSTMENT CONTROL:

See operating manual of tractor manufacturer.

DEPTH ADJUSTMENT WITH DEPTH WHEEL:

Extract cardan joint K from support wheel stanchion St and turn by 90°. Shift support wheel R to desired depth and let cardan joint latch back into place.

WHEEL CAMBER SETTING

Wheel camber is set using the lifting rods (see page 9), so that plough legs or landside (Pos. 1) are at right angles to the ground.

TRACTION POINT SETTING

Set plough so that there is no lateral pull on tractor. Put lower lift arms in correct position to avoid lateral pull. For normal usage the plough is set so that cross-shaft W runs centrally to the tractor tracks.

Tractor pulls towards ploughed work: alter lower connecting rods towards ploughed terrain Traction point spindle Z is screwed together.

Tractor pulls towards unploughed work: Alter lower connecting rods towards unploughed terrain Traction-point spindle Z is screwed apart.

EXACT ADJUSTMENT OF TRACK WIDTH

Adjusting the cutting width of the first body S1 according to field depth and camber setting, is done by the slide block guidance F using width adjustment spindle V so that it corresponds with the cutting width of the next body S (must be 40cm).

DISC COULTER SETTING

Set depth of disc coulter after removing screw K and altering position of rocker bar L according to desired work depth. Make sure that hub N does not touch the ground.

The distance (unploughed side in direction of travel ON THE LEFT of landside) between the side of the disc and the ploughing tackle should be between approx. 1 and 5 cm depending on the soil properties, and at least protrude beyond the manure skimmer. This distance is achieved by rotating the coulter shaft. Generally a disc coulter is mounted on the last body; special disc coulter ploughs can be delivered or installed upon customer request (one disc coulter is mounted on each body). (ATTENTION: Disc coulter ploughs FARMER M and MS non stop stum—jump system are only available for frame heights from 76 cm)!!

CONTINUOUS FURROW-WIDTH ADJUSTMENT

Continuous furrow width adjustment is possible within a range between 32 and 52 cm (for VARIO 850) and 35 - 55 cm (for VARIO 950 and 1050). In the case of exact plough setting (exact traction point setting and exact track width adjustment with a furrow width of 40 cm), it is not necessary to subsequently correct other settings. When the furrow width is adjusted, both the traction point setting and the furrow width of the first body are automatically set at the same time or adjusted to the lateral movement of the lower connecting rods.

VARIO CUTTING WIDTH ADJUSTMENT:

MANURE SKIMMER

The work depth of manure skimmers (skim coulters) depends on the work depth of the plough body and should be set so that the work depth is approximately 1/3 of the cultivation depth. Where there are extensive crop remains, the setting can also be somewhat deeper. Should the manure skimmers be obstructed by oversized crop remains, they can easily be removed.

6. TRANSPORTATION

IT IS ESSENTIALLY THE CASE THAT

When travelling in fog, twilight or in the dark, protruding parts must be made visible.

Illuminating elements and warning signs can be supplied if required.

The regulations stipulated in the road traffic act of each country must be observed.

TRANSPORTFAHRT MIT EINER PENDELANBAUACHSE

Wenn die Pendelachse P beim Pflügen über den Drehpunkt D pendeln soll, müssen beide Lagerbolzen B im Anbaukörper C in die vorderen Bohrungen B1 versetzt werden; bei der Transportfahrt müssen die beiden Lagerbolzen wieder in Position B montiert werden, das heißt: Pendelachse P muss im Anbaukörper ganz hinten sein und an der Verriegelung V anliegen. Die Lagerbolzen B müssen vor den Anschlägen A vorgesteckt werden, um die Sicherheit bei der Transportfahrt zu gewährleisten.

7. OVERLOAD PROTECTION

SHEAR OFF PROTECTION (Shearbolt)

To protect V&N ploughs from damage through overloading, they are fitted with shear-off bolts (1). After a shear-off bolt breaks, the swung-out plough body can be pivoted back into working position after releasing turning point bolts (2) and removing remains of shear-off bolt. After replacement, securely tighten new shear-off bolt and turning-point bolt.

I n c a s e o f a n y o v e r l o a d p r o t e c t i o n : Use only original shear-off bolts (see spare parts drawing) of the appropriate size and quality! Only these bolts guarantee proper protection. Never use bolts of higher or lower strength or bolts with shorter shafts!

FULLY AUTOMATIC STUMP-JUMP - mechanical (= Non stop stump-jump mech.) (with overload protection)

F u l l y a u t o m a t i c m e c h a n i c a l s t u m p - j u m p f u n c t i o n s a s f o l l o w s :

When plough body meets an obstruction (stone), the plough beam element turns upwards through the pivot point D (up to max. limit E – spring is compressed). When the obstruction has been passed, the plough beam element returns to its original position. The whole procedure occurs without having to stop the plough (NON stop, mechanical).

If the NON stop plough beam element with leaf spring (mechanical) is activated to often or if the plough does not go into ground (soil too hard), the number of leaf springs can be increased (from 5 to 10 leaf springs – see spare parts drawing) or decreased, should the opposite be the case.

!KEEP CLEAR of tilting plough beam element!

To disassemble the plough beam element or the leaf spring, turn the adjusting screw A to the left until screws B and C can be removed.

FULLY AUTOMATIC STUMP-JUMP - HYDRAULIC (Non stop hydr. stump-jump system)

The fully automatic stump-jump system works in principle like the mechanical stump-jump system. The only difference is that instead of the leaf springs a hydraulic cylinder with connected hydro-accumulator is used.

O p e r a t i n g p r i n c i p l e :

When the body of the plough meets an obstruction (stone) the resistance is so high, that the NON STOP element activates. The hydraulic oil of the hydraulic cylinder (fixed on the NON STOP element) gives pressure to the piston accumulator. As soon as the body of the plough has overcome the obstruction, the hydro accumulator presses the oil back in the hydraulic cylinder and brings the NON STOP element back in position.

The release pressure (= work pressure) can be adjusted, if needed, through the pressure regulating tube connected to the tractor hydraulics. The work pressure can be read from the pressure manometer.

When disconnecting the pressure regulating tube from the tractor the stop cock tap on the plough must be locked, the pipe to the tractor hydraulic must be cleared (pressure-free) and only then taken out. When leaving the pipe connected to the tractor, care must be taken that the pipe does not get squeezed or covered.

For protection against damage through overloading, all NON STOP elements are additionally provided with a shear bolt F. Installation and dismantling instructions using the three-point bolt G are described under "Shear-off protection".

PRESSURE ON THE HYDRO ACCUMULATOR:

The maximum pressure set must not exceed 140 bar, otherwise component parts on the plough will be subject to overload and damage.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: Prior to assembling or disassembling the hydraulic stone protection device (cylinder, accumulator, hose lines, tubes, etc.), reduce system pressure completely using the pressure control tube (SYSTEM IS UNDER HIGH PRESSURE) DANGER of ACCIDENTS! Before reducing the system pressure, the plough must be attached or supported appropriately or it may overturn.

The gas pressure side must only be adjusted by the dealer or V&N - without exception - and, in the case of central or compact accumulators, must be checked yearly

The oil pressure can be adjusted using the tractor hydraulic and the pressure regulating tube.

8. SERVICING

To ensure that your plough remains valuable and reliable, certain necessary service work and maintenance needs to be carried out.

I. All bolts and nuts must be tightened after initial use. They must then be checked every 20 operatinghours, and tightened or replaced if necessary (shear bolt).

III. Replace worn shares and mould boards promptly to prevent damage to plough bodies orsupporting parts. The same applies to skimmers and discs if present.

IV. Check high-pressure hydraulic tubes regularly and keep connections clean. Use protective caps.Porous or defective high-pressure tubes are to be exchanged immediately.

V. After operation, clean plough thoroughly and protect exposed surfaces against corrosion using acid-free grease.

Parking in the open: If parked for a long time in the open, clean piston rods and then preserve with grease.

Wintering: Clean plough thoroughly before wintering, protect against bad weather, protect exposed parts against rust, grease all grease points.

Cleaning machine parts:

ATTENTION! High-pressure cleaners should not be used to clean bearing and hydraulic parts. Risk of rust. Grease machine after cleaning. Cleaning under too high a pressure can damage varnish.

A T T E N T I O N !Important for environmentally friendly, low pollutant

varnishing:

The implement must not be cleaned with a steam jet device within the first 6 weeks. After this time, only clean at a nozzle distance of at least 50 cm at 100 bar and 50°C.

If these points are not adhered to, the warranty will not cover damage to varnish.

TERMS OF WARRANTY

We guarantee the product as specified below:

* Extent of warranty:We guarantee the initial purchaser a delivery item with state-of-the-art technology regarding serviceability and operability. The warranty moreover covers the removal of defects in the event of damage to delivery items due to defective material, construction defects, or finishing defects.

* Duration of warranty claims:The period of warranty begins with delivery of the item. It covers:

a) 1 year for structural partsb) Bought-in parts:

For those parts not manufactured by ourselves, e.g. bearings, we can only provide a warranty to theextent that our warranty is covered by the supplier.

* Removal of defects:Fulfilment of warranty is as follows: parts that are proven to be defective or have become defunct through material, design or processing defects are repaired at our discretion or can be returned freight-free to our plant in Wartberg to be replaced. Proof of defect is governed by the inspection report of our plant. Removal of defects does not affect duration of warranty.

All further claims to redhibition, diminution or replacement delivery, as well as compensation for direct or indirect consequential damages shall remain ineligible.

* Exclusion from warranty:The following are excluded from warranty: a) Wearing parts as a result of normal wear and tear.b) Damage traceable to negligence, overloading or improper handling
