Marvellous Mud

Floods from the River Nile left behind thick,

black mud. This was the perfect soil for

growing wheat, barley and veg. Egyptian

farmers also raised cattle, sheep, pigs and

geese.

Buried Treasure

The Egyptians believed that dead people

went on to another life they filled their dead

rulers tombs with things they might need

in the next life like jewels and food.

Picture Writing

The Egyptians used a kind of picture writing

called hieroglyphics. Each picture stood for

a different word or sound. The pictures

were painted on to walls .

Falcon-A fierce hunting bird.

Fertlie-produces good crops.

Tomb-a special place were kings were buried.

Egyptian Make-up

Egyptians liked to look good. They wore

simple cloths and lots of jewels, powder and

round their eyes. They used blue and green

paint so that their brown eyes looked bigger

and brighter. They blackened their lashes

and painted their eye brows longer than

they really were.

Pyramid facts • Did you know the great pyramid of Giza is the

most famous pyramid in the world.

• The first pyramid was built at Sakkara around

2700 B.C. for King Zoser by his vizier imhotet.

The great pyramid took

5,000 men to build it and took over 20 years to

Build. It is completely made from over 2.3

million blocks of stone.

The smallest pyramid is 73 metres high.

Facts about Gods

There are more than 2000 gods.

There is a god called osiris whose brother seth captured him and thrEW him in the river nile.

There are loads of other gods such as ra, hathor, sekhmet, nut, geb, horus, isis, thoth, anubis, ma’at, amun and bastet.

The lion-headed Sekhmet. A goddess, whose

wrath was frightful and whose appetite for flesh was ravenous.

Poor people wore jewellery made of shells.

• People wore jewellery on their necks.

• Some golden jewellery was really

expensive in Ancient times.

• Even men wore earrings too!
