Global Warming:An in-depth view of a growing problem
Created by:

What is Global Warming?
Global Warming is an increase in the average temperature near the earth’s surface caused by the strengthening of the greenhouse effect.
Some scientists predict that the average global temperature may rise as much as 9⁰ F by the year 2050.

Factors of Global Warming
Background
•Global warming is not a new concept
•It has always existed, but human environment
interaction has been a catalyst to the process
•The “greenhouse effect”, one of the
major parts of global warming was
first discovered and brought to
attention in 1827

What are we doing to make it
happen?
•Humans have increased the number of carbon
dioxide going into the atmosphere.
•Carbon dioxide soaks up heat and
therefore, increases the entire
atmosphere’s temperature

Facts
•An estimated amount of 400,000 square miles of
Arctic sea have been melted
•There has not been any bills passed by the United
States government that directly helps the global
warming issue

•Climate change can be the result of both human and
natural causes.
•Main focus the in research for many decades =
human causes.
•Such advancements have made us aware of the
things we are doing to contribute to global warming.
•Efforts to decrease global warming causing activities
are currently in effect.

Effect of Global Warming
“The first comprehensive
assessment of the extinction
risk from global warming found
that more than 1 million
species could be obliterated by
2050 if the current trajectory
continues.”
Are we just going to
let our planet get
destroyed and do
nothing about it?

Due to changes in climate
and rain patterns…
•Many animals and plant species
will become extinct.
•Species cannot adapt to changes
and are forced to either relocate
or die.
How Living Organisms are Affected
http://www.nri-society.org/uploaded/myfolder/oh-no-global-
warming.jpg
The changes in climate
have…
•Increased the range and
lifespan of disease carrying
insects.
•Diseases, such as malaria, can
show up in higher altitudes
and the time that there is the
highest risk of getting malaria
increases.

Droughts and Famines:
•More droughts make
it impossible to grow
crops and almost
impossible to find
healthy drinking water.
•The famines that
result from this affects
both people and
animals, alike.

Altered weather patterns:
•Some rainforests will receive less rain
while a desert gets torrential
downpours.
•Increasing water temperature = more
tropical storms and more hurricanes.
•Severe droughts, wildfires and floods
can result in certain areas.

Changes in Sea levels
Due to the polar icecaps
melting, the sea level has
begun to rise at a dangerous
level. Those most at risk are
those who live below sea
level on the coast. The
change in sea level also
destroys once fertile lands on
the coast. This chart shows
the parts of the country most
at risk as the sea continues
to rise.

Is Global Warming a way for the
government to strike fear into its
people?
NO.
• One of the those ten troubles is
global warming, and it isn’t going
anywhere.
• Global warming IS important for
us to realize and prevent.
• Prevention should be the priority
of corporations and government.
The Future of Global Warming“When you see 10 troubles coming up the road towards you, sometimes the best thing to do is nothing, because nine of them will fall into the ditch before they get to you.”

Here are options
that the
government has
for saving both
our world and
the communities
surrounding us.
Three Options for the GovernmentAccording to the CPI (Council Policy Initiative)
Process 1:
Modest Precaution
(Adaptive
Technology)
Process 2:
Re-Engage with the
Community
(Create a new
International treaty)
Process 3
“Bottom-Up” Solution
(Focus on Local Needs
and Help Create New
Markets)

Global warming is a serious issue that need to be addressed. The factors, causes, effects, and future of global warming are all important things to be aware of, but knowing about them wont stop global warming. The only way to stop this snowball affect that global warming produces is to reduce your carbon footprint. You have many options on ways to do this. You could recycle or carpool or even get an electric car. This chart shows some the highest emissions and could be a guide as to where you could reduce your carbon footprint most affectively.
