What is a Food Recall?

A food recall is when a food producer takes a product off the market because there is reason to believe that it may cause con-sumers to become ill. In some situations, government agencies may request a food recall. Food recalls may happen for many reasons, including but not limited to:

• Discovery of organisms, including bacteria such as Salmonella or parasites such as Cyclospora.

• Discovery of foreign objects such as broken glass or metal.

Discovery of a major allergen that does not appear on the product label.

What to Do with a Recalled Product

A food product that has been recalled due to a possible germ con-tamination or illness, can leave germs around your kitchen and contaminate surfaces, including the drawers and shelves in your refrigerator.

If you've already prepared a recalled food item in your kitchen or still have it in your refrigerator, it's important to throw out the food and clean your kitchen.

• Wash all cookware and utensils (including cutting boards) with hot soapy water.

• Clear off counters and refrigerator drawers and shelves and wash them with hot soapy water.

Then wipe any surfaces, shelves, or drawers and rinse dishes and cookware with a sanitizing solution and let them air dry. You can use a diluted bleach solution (1 TBSP unscented, liquid chlorine bleach in 1 gallon of water).

Products recalled due to an undeclared allergen may be a risk for anyone in your household with an allergy to that substance. If the product has never been served, throw it away or return it for a refund.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS YEAR DUE TO COVID-19 YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER FOR THE RECERTIFICATION COURSE YOU WISH TO ATTEND! If you do not pre-register, there is no guarantee that you will be able to attend the session as a walk-in.

PLEASE read the following information completely for all your information. There is a lot of information here, but it is im-portant for you to read thoroughly to ensure you receive your recertification credits.

If your Private Pesticide Applicator License expires December 31, 2020 and you have not attended a recertification program in the last two years, you must attend a recertification meeting by February 28, 2021 (60-day grace period) to maintain your present license. However, if you do not become recertified by December 31, 2020 you cannot purchase restricted-use pesticides legally until you recertify during the grace period. If you do not recerti-fy by February 28, 2021, your license will expire and you will have to take the private pesticide test to regain your license.

Pesticide Licenses are only issued once every two years regard-less of how many years of recertification credit you have banked (maximum 4 years). You should have recently received notifica-tion on your recertification status from VDACS. If your present license expires on December 31, 2020 and you have attended a recertification program in the past two years, you will receive a new license that will expire on December 31, 2022.

If your present license expires on December 31, 2020 your recer-tification notification will give your status but you will not re-ceive a new license until after you have attended a recertification and those credits have been processed. For each recertification training session, you have attended you accumulate 2 years of credit for up to 4 years plus the current year.

If you need to recertify your current Private Pesticide Applicator license, you will find two options below: Online and Face-to-Face. Please note that space is limited this year at in-person train-ings, so you MUST pre-register.
