    AIRPORT CHECK-INAirport check-in uses service counters foundat commercial airports handling commercialair travel.Check-in is usually the first procedure for apassenger when arriving at an airport.As airline regulations require passengerscheck-in by certain times prior to thedeparture of a flight. This duration spans from30 min to 4 h depending on the destinationand airline.

    The check-in is normally handled by an airlineitself or a handling agent working on behalfof an airline.Passengers usually hand over any baggagethat they do not wish or are not allowed tocarry-on to the aircraft's cabin and receive aboarding pass before they can proceed toboard their aircraft.The airline check-in's main function, however,is to accept luggage that is to go in theaircraft's cargo hold.

    PASSENGER IDENTITY REGISTRATION

    At the time of check-in one of the Agent's

    primary duties is to check for valid

    documents.

    These include tickets, invitation letters,

    passports, visas, etc. (depending on the type

    of visit, the arrival and destination of the

    trip).

    BAGGAGE REGISTARTIONAt the time of check-in, the passenger hands

    over baggage which is checked by the airportsecurity and sealed.

    Anything that is above the weight limit or

    which is not allowed to be carried by thepassenger himself to the aircraft cabin is

    usually handed over to the agent at the time

    of check-in.

    The baggage allowance, if any, is prescribed

    by the airline and anything in excess will

    warrant additional surcharges.

    SEATING REGISTRATIONUsually at the time of check-in, an option of

    selecting the seats is offered.

    The Agent may ask if a window or aisle seat

    is wanted.

    ONLINE CHECK-INOnline check-in is the process in which

    passengers confirm their presence on a flightvia the internet and typically print their own

    boarding passes.

    Depending on the carrier and the specificflight, passengers may also enter details such

    as meal options and baggage quantities and

    select their preferred seating.

    Ryan air charges passengers a fee for not

    using online check-in, except in certain limite

    circumstances.Alaska Airlines was the firstto offer online check-in in se 1999.

    MOBILE CHECK-IN

    In the mid-late 2000s, checking-in was madepossible using a passenger's mobile p. A GPRS

    or 3G-capable Smartphone or an internet

    capable PDA is required.

    At the end of the mobile check-in process

    some airlines would send a mobile boarding

    pass or an electronic confirmation with a

    barcode that can be presented to the staff

    at check-in or scanned at the kiosks to

    continue the check-in process (i.e. to have

    boarding passes issued).

    GATE / LOUNGE CHECK-INAir New Zealand domestic services introducea self-check-in process allowing passengers

    with bags to arrive and check-in at the

    self-service kiosks up to 10 min prior to

    departure time.

    Passengers then attach the baggage tag and

    drop the bag themselves at the baggage drop

    belt)or proceed straight to the departure gate

    when boarding using either their e-Pass or

    m-Pass.

    CHANGE OF RESERVATIONS

    In some situations, it may be necessary to

    change a passenger's travel plans and the

    check-in counter will handle these concerns.

    This may involve changing itinerary, upgrading

    class of travel, changing to an earlier or later

    flight but such changes are subject to the

    conditions of the tickets issued.

    SECURITY PROCEDURE

    At every airport, the safety and security of

    customers and staff are absolute priority.

    To ensure the journey is a smooth one, the

    passengers must ensure that they read the

    latest regulations about what they can and

    cannot take on board the aircraft.

    A) Hand baggage

    Each airline has their own policy regarding

    the amount of hand baggage size of check

    in baggage and numbers that are allowed on

    their aircraft and it is strongly recommendthat information regarding this is sought

    directly from the Airline before travel.

    B) Liquids

    Passengers will be allowed to take liquids,

    gels and pastes of 100mls or less in their

    hand baggage. These items must be removedfrom their hand baggage and x-rayed

    separately or can be put in the check in

    baggage.

    Liquids include:Water and other drinks, soups, syrups

    Creams, lotions and oilsPerfumes

    Lipsticks

    Sprays

    Gels, including hair and shower gelsContents of pressurized containers, including

    shaving foam and other foams

    Deodorants

    Pastes, including toothpaste

    Liquid-solid mixtures

    Mascara

    Any other item of a similar consistency.

    C) Hold and Hand Luggage

    Hold and hand luggage must be below acertain weight and size. Passengers must

    check with the airline for more information.

    It is an offence to carry any of the followingitems into the aircraft cabin:

    Toy or replica guns (plastic or metal)

    Knives with blades more than 6cm

    Razor blades

    Disposable lighters or gas refills

    Scissors -with blades more than 6cm

    Hypodermic syringes (unless supported by

    medical evidence)

    Hammers, nails, screwdriversSporting bats

    Billiard, snooker or pool cues

    Catapults and slingshots

    Gas cartridges or refills

    PaintLighter fuel

    Mercury

    Restraining Items - handcuffs, fishing line,

    restraining tape.

    D) Large electrical items / LaptopsLaptops and other complex items of electrical

    equipment have to be removed from handluggage and screened separately.

    E) MedicinesPassengers will also be allowed to carry in

    their hand luggage medicines for use

    during the flight provided that they have aprescription or doctors note for the medicatio

    The passenger may only carry through securit

    the quantity of liquid medication that is

    required for their journey.

    F) Body Scanners

    Every passengers clothes and body must be

    checked with the help of body scanners and

    metal detectors.

    Passenger who refuses to use the scanner

    will be denied travel.

    IMMIGRATION PROCESS1)Immigration check is done for allpassengers, Indians or foreigners, both at the

    time of arrival and departure. The passports

    are duly stamped at arrival as well as

    departure.

    2)All passengers, Foreigners as well as

    Indians, coming to India or departing from

    India are required to fill-up D(Disembarkation)

    Card and E (Embarkation) Cards on arrival

    and departure respectively.
