1.1. Installation After you have read this manual, keep it and the Installation Manual in a
safe place for easy reference whenever a question arises. If the unit is going to be operated by another person, make sure that this manual is given to him or her.
Warning:• Theunitshouldnotbeinstalledbytheuser.Askthedealeroranauthor-
ized company to install the unit. If the unit is installed improperly, water leakage, electric shock or fire may result.
• UseonlyaccessoriesauthorizedbyMitsubishiElectricandaskyourdealeror an authorized company to install them. If accessories are installed improperly, water leakage, electric shock or fire may result.
• TheInstallationManualdetailsthesuggestedinstallationmethod.Anystructural alteration necessary for installation must comply with local building code requirements.
• Neverrepairtheunitortransferittoanothersitebyyourself.Ifrepairisperformed improperly, water leakage, electric shock or fire may result. If you need to have the unit repaired or moved, consult your dealer.
• Keeptheelectricpartsawayfromwater(washingwater)etc.• Itmightresultinelectricshock,catchingfireorsmoke.

1) Outdoorunit
Warning:• Theoutdoorunitmustbeinstalledonastable,levelsurface,inaplace
where there is no accumulation of snow, leaves or rubbish.• Donotstandon,orplaceanyitemsontheunit.Youmayfalldownorthe
item may fall, causing injury.
Caution:The outdoor unit should be installed in a location where air and noise emitted by the unit will not disturb the neighbours.
2) Indoorunit
Warning:The indoor unit should be securely installed. If the unit is loosely mounted, it may fall, causing injury.
3) Remotecontroller
Warning:The remote controller should be installed in such a way that children cannot play with it.
4) Drainhose
Caution:Make sure that the drain hose is installed so that drainage can go ahead smoothly. Incorrect installation may result in water leakage, causing dam-age to furniture.
5) Powerline,fuseorcircuitbreaker
Warning:• Makesurethattheunitispoweredbyadedicatedsupply.Otherappliances
connected to the same supply could cause an overload.• Makesurethatthereisamainpowerswitch.• Besuretoadheretotheunit’svoltageandfuseorcircuitbreakerrat-
ings.Neveruseapieceofwireorafusewithahigherratingthantheonespecified.
6) Grounding
Caution:• Theunitmustbeproperlygrounded.Neverconnectthegroundingwire
to a gas pipe, water pipe, lightning conductor or tele phone grounding wire. If the unit is not grounded properly, electric shock may result.
• Check frequently that the ground wire from the outdoor unit is properly con-nectedtoboththeunit’sgroundterminalandthegroundingelectrode.
1.2. During operation Caution:
• Donotuseanysharpobjecttopushthebuttons,asthismaydamagetheremote controller.
• Donottwistortugontheremotecontrollercordasthismaydamagetheremote controller and cause malfunction.
• Neverremovetheuppercaseoftheremotecontroller. It isdangerousto remove the upper case of the remote controller and touch the printed circuit boards inside. Doing so can result in fire and failure.
• Neverwipetheremotecontrollerwithbenzene,thinner,chemicalrags,etc. Doing so can result in discoloration and failure. To remove heavy stains, soak a cloth in neutral detergent mixed with water, wring it out thoroughly, wipe the stains off, and wipe again with a dry cloth.
• Neverblockorcovertheindoororoutdoorunit’sintakesoroutlets.Tallitems of furniture underneath the indoor unit, or bulky items such as large boxesplacedclosetotheoutdoorunitwillreducetheunit’sefficiency.

• Whenyounoticeexceptionallyabnormalnoiseorvibration,stopopera-tion, turn off the power switch, and contact your dealer.
• Do notover-cool.Themostsuitable inside temperature isone that iswithin 5 °C of the outside temperature.
• Donotleavehandicappedpeopleorinfantssittingorstandinginthepathoftheairflowfromtheair-conditioner.Thiscouldcausehealthproblems.
Caution:• Donotdirecttheairflowatplantsorcagedpets.• Ventilate theroomfrequently. If theunit isoperatedcontinuously ina
closed room for a long period of time, the air will become stale.
In case of failure Warning:
• Neverremodeltheairconditioner.Consultyourdealerforanyrepairorservice.Improper repair work can result in water leakage, electric shock, fire, etc.
• Iftheremotecontrollerdisplaysanerrorindication,theairconditionerdoes not run, or there is any abnormality, stop operation and contact your dealer. Leaving the unit as it is under such conditions can result in fire or failure.
• Ifthepowerbreakerisfrequentlyactivated,getintouchwithyourdealer.Leaving it as it is can result in fire or failure.
• Iftherefrigerationgasblowsoutorleaks,stoptheoperationoftheairconditioner, thoroughly ventilate the room, and contact your dealer. Leav-ing the unit as it is can result in accidents due to oxygen deficiency.
When the air conditioner is not to be used for a long time• Iftheairconditionerisnottobeusedforalongtimeduetoaseasonal
change, etc., run it for 4 - 5 hours with the air blowing until the inside is completelydry.Failingtodosocanresultinthegrowthofunhygienic,unhealthy mold in scattered areas throughout the room.
• Whenitisnottobeusedforanextendedtime,keepthe[powersupply]turnedOFF.
If the power supply is kept on, several watts or several tens of watts will be wasted. Also, the accumulation of dust, etc., can result in fire.
• Keep the power switched ON for more than 12 hours before startingoperation.DonotturnthepowersupplyOFFduringseasonsofheavyuse. Doing so can result in failure.
1.3. Disposing of the unit Warning:
When you need to dispose of the unit, consult your dealer. If pipes are removed incorrectly,refrigerant(fluorocarbongas)mayblowoutandcomeintocontactwith your skin, causing injury. Releasing refrigerant into the atmosphere also damages the environment.

3. How to operate
Before starting operation• Startrunningafterthe“PLEASEWAIT”displayhasdisappeared.The“PLEASE
WAIT”displaybrieflyappearsontheroomtemperaturedisplay(max.3minutes)whenthepoweristurnedonandafterapowerfailure.Thisdoesnotindicateanyfailureoftheair-conditioner.
• Thechoiceofindoorunitoperationmodeislimitedbytheoperationstatusoftheoutdoorunittowhichagivenindoorunitisconnected.Ifanoutdoorunitandsomeoftheindoorunitsthatareconnectedtotheoutdoorunitsarealreadyoperatinginthecoolingmode,forexample,onlythecoolingmodeisavailablefortherestoftheunitsinthesamegroup.Ifadifferentmodeisrequested,thesymbolthatcorrespondstotherequestedmodewillblink,notifyingtheuserthatthemodeiscurrentlyunavailable.Thesameistrueforthedryandheatingmode.Thisrestriction,however,doesnotapplytothemodelsthatsupportasimultaneouscooling/heatingfunction.
• Theoutdoorunitsstopwhenalltheindoorunitsconnectedtothecounterpartoutdoorunitsstop.
• Duringheatingoperation,eveniftheindoorunitissettooperationwhiletheoutdoor unit is in defrosting operation, operation starts after the defrostingoperationoftheoutdoorunithasended.
3.1. ON/OFFStart an operation1. Press the B[ON/OFF]button POperationlamplightsupandoperationstarts.
Stop an operation1. Press the B[ON/OFF]buttonagain Operationlampgoesoffandoperationstops.
• OncetheButtonshavebeenset,pressingofthe[ON/OFF]Buttononlycanrepeatthesameoperationthereafter.
• Duringoperation,theoperationlampabovethe[ON/OFF]buttonlightsup.
Caution:Evenifthe[ON/OFF]Buttonispressedimmediatelyaftertheoperationisonce stopped, operation is not restarted for about 3 minutes. This functionprotects the machine. It automatically starts operation after the lapse ofapproximately 3 minutes.
3.2. Selecting operationWhen selecting operation1. Press the 3 [Mode(BACK)]Button Consecutivepressof theselectingoperationButtonswitches theoperation
over to E“ COOL”,“ DRY”,“ FAN”,(“ AUTO”),and(“ HEAT”).Forthecontentsofoperation,checkthedisplay.
ForcoolingPress the 3[Mode(BACK)]Buttonandbringupthe“ cooL” display.
FordryPress the 3[Mode(BACK)]Buttonandbringupthe“ Dry” display.
• Theindoorfanturnstothelow-speedoperation,disablingthechangeoffanspeed.
• Dryoperationcannotbecarriedoutatroomtemperatureoflessthan18°C[65°F].
Caution:• Inremovingthefilter,precautionsmustbetakentoprotectyoureyesfrom
dust. Also, if you have to climb up on a stool to do the job, be careful not to fall.
• Turnoffthepowersupplywhenthefilterischanged.

Dry operationThe dry is a microcomputer-controlled dehumidifying operation which controlsexcessiveair-coolingaccordingtotheroomtemperatureofyourchoice.(Notus-ableforheating.)
1. Untilreachingroomtemperatureofyourchoice The compressor and indoor fan function is linked motion according to the
changeoftheroomtemperatureandautomaticallyrepeatON/OFF.
2. Whenreachingroomtemperatureofyourchoice Boththecompressorandindoorfanstop. Whenstopcontinuesfor10minutes,thecompressorandindoorfanareoper-
atedfor3minutestokeepthehumiditylow.
ForheatingPress the 3[Mode(BACK)]Buttontobringupthe“ heaT” display.
Regardingdisplaysduringheatingoperation“DEFROST”Displayedonlyduringthedefrostingoperation.
“STANDBY”Displayedfromthestartofheatingoperationuntilthemomentwarmairblowsout.
Caution:• Whentheair-conditionerisusedtogetherwithburners,thoroughlyventi-
late the area. Insufficient ventilation can result in accidents due to oxygen deficiency.
• Neverplaceaburnerataplacewhereitisexposedtotheairflowfromthe air-conditioner.
Doing so can result in imperfect combustion of the burner.• Themicrocomputerfunctionsinthefollowingcases:• Airdoesnotblowoutwhenheatingstarts.
- Topreventanycoolairfromescaping,theindoorfanisgraduallyswitchedinsequencefromfaintairflow/weakairflow/setairflowaccordingtothetemperatureriseoftheblownoutair.Waitamomentuntiltheairflowcomesoutnaturally.
• Thefanisnotmovingatthesetspeed.- Insomemodels,thesystemswitchesovertofaintairflowwhenthetemper-
atureoftheroomreachesthesettemperature.Inothercases, itstopstopreventanycoolairfromescapingduringthedefrostingoperation.
• Airflowsoutevenifoperationisstopped.- Approximately1minuteafterthestopofoperation,theindoorfansometimes
rotatestoeliminateextraheatgeneratedbytheelectricheater,etc. Thefanspeedcomestoloworhigh.
4. The smart way to use
Evenminimalstepstocareforyourairconditionercanhelpmakeitsusefarmore effective in terms of air-conditioning effect, electricity charges, etc.
Set the right room temperature• Incoolingoperation,atemperaturedifferenceofabout5°C[9°F]between
indoorsandoutdoorsisoptimum.
• Iftheroomtemperatureisraisedby1°C[2°F]duringair-coolingoperation,about10%electricpowercanbesaved.
• Excessivecoolingisbadforhealth.Italsoresultsinthewasteofelectricpower.
Clean the filter thoroughly• Ifthescreenoftheairfilterbecomesclogged,theairflowandair-conditioning
effectcanbesignificantlyreduced. Further,iftheconditionisleftunattended,failurecanresult.Itisparticularly
importanttocleanthefilteratthebeginningofthecoolingandheatingseasons.(Whenprofusedustanddirthaveaccumulated,cleanthefilterthoroughly.)
Prevent intrusion of heat during air-cooling• Topreventtheintrusionofheatduringcoolingoperation,provideacurtainora
blindonthewindowtoblockoutdirectsunlight.Also,donotopentheentranceorexitexceptincasesofdirenecessity.
Carry out ventilation sometimes• Sincetheairperiodicallygetsdirtyinaroomthatiskeptclosedforalongtime,
ventilationissometimesnecessary.Whengasappliancesareusedtogetherwiththeairconditioner,specialprecautionsmustbetaken.Ifthe“LOSSNAY”ventilationunitdevelopedbyourcompanyisused,youcanperformventilationwithlesswaste.Fordetailsonthisunit,consultwithyourdealer.

5. Caring for the machine
Always have filter maintenance performed by a service person.Beforecare-taking,turnthepowersupplyOFF.
Caution:• Beforeyoustartcleaning,stopoperationandturnOFFthepowersupply.
Remember that the fan is rotating inside at high speed, posing a serious risk of injury.
• Indoorunitsareequippedwithfilterstoremovethedustofsucked-inair.Cleanthefiltersfollowingtheproceduresontheright.(Thestandardfilter should normally be cleaned once a week, and the long-life filter at thebeginningofeachseason.)
• Thelifeofthefilterdependsonwheretheunitisinstalledandhowitisoperated.
How to clean• Cleardustawaylightlyorcleanitupwithavacuumcleaner. Inthecaseof
severestaining,washthefilterinlukewarmwatermixedwithdissolvedneutraldetergentorwater,andthenrinseoffthedetergentcompletely.Afterwashing,dryitandfixitbackintoplace.
Caution:• Donotdrythefilterbyexposingittodirectsunlightorwarmingitusing

3. Comment faire fonctionner le climatiseur
Avant la mise en marche• Lancer le fonctionnementdès ladisparitionde l’affichage“PLEASEWAIT”.
L’affichage“PLEASEWAIT”apparaîtbrièvementsurl’affichagedetempéra-turedelapièce(3minutesmaxi.)lorsdelamisesoustensionousuiteàunecoupured’électricité.Celan’indiqueaucunepanneduclimatiseur.
• Lechoixdumodedefonctionnementdel’appareilintérieurestdéfiniparlestatutdefonctionnementdel’appareilextérieurauquelunappareilintérieurdonnéestraccordé.Sil’appareilextérieuretcertainsdesappareilsintérieursquiysontrac-cordésfonctionnentdéjàenmodederefroidissementparexemple,seullemodederefroidissementseradisponiblepourtouslesautresappareilsdumêmegroupe.Encasdechangementdemode,lesymbolecorrespondantaumoderequisclignoterapourindiqueràl’utilisateurquecemodeestmomentanémentindisponible.Lesmodesdedéshumidificationetdechauffagesontsoumisaumêmesrèglesdefonctionnement.Cetterestriction,cependant,nes’appliquepasauxmodèlesquiintègrentunefonctionderefroidissement/chauffagesimultanée.

3.2. Sélection du mode de fonctionnementPour sélectionner le mode de fonctionnement souhaité1. Appuyer sur la touche 3 [Mode(BACK)] Unepressionrépétéesur latouchedesélectiondefonctionnementpermet
desélectionnersuccessivement lesmodesE “ FROID”,“ DESHU”,“VENTILATION”, (“ AUTO”), et (“ CHAUD”). Pour connaître le mode defonctionnement,contrôlerl’affichage.
Pour le refroidissementAppuyer sur la touche 3[Mode(BACK)]jusqu’àcequel’affichage“ FroiD” apparaisse.
Pour la déshumidificationAppuyer sur la touche 3[Mode(BACK)]jusqu’àcequel’affichage“ DeShu” apparaisse.
• Leventilateurintérieursemetenmodedefonctionnementàbassevitesse,désactivantainsilafonctiondemodificationdelavitesseduventilateur.
• Ladéshumidificationnepeutpass’effectueràunetempératureambiantedemoinsde18°C[65°F].
Précaution:• Lorsduretraitdufiltre,protégersesyeuxdelapoussière.Demême,si
vous devez monter sur une chaise pour effectuer le travail, faites attention de ne pas tomber.

• Uneaugmentationde1°C[2°F]delatempératureprogramméepourlapiècependant le fonctionnement du système de refroidissement de l’air permetd’épargnerenviron10%delaconsommationélectrique.
• Unrefroidissementexcessifnuitàlasantéetsignifieégalementungaspillagedel’énergieélectrique.
Nettoyersoigneusementlefiltre• Sil’écrandufiltreàairestobstrué,ledébitd’airetl’effetderefroidissement
peuventêtrefortementdiminués. Deplus,s’iln’estpasprissoinde l’obstruction, l’appareil risquedetomberenpanne. Ilest

detachespersistantes, laver lefiltredansde l’eautièdeavecundétergentnonabrasifoudansdel’eaupurepuisrincerconvenablementtoutetracededétergent.Aprèslelavage,sécherlefiltreetleremettreenplace.
