Faith

Someone going to college in the fall . . what are they doing now? Back to school sales, buying clothes, pens, notebooks

What about someone who wants to play sports in the fall? They are training now.

Vacation dreams next year? They are saving now.

The future can impact our present; tomorrow

impacts today on a natural level, and the Holy Spirit is trying to teach us a similar lesson on a supernatural level.

“Faith is the realization of things hoped for Evidence of things unseen” Something hoped for is in the future, but realization

= means right now. This future reality . ..somehow . . is also right here. . .realized. . right now.

3 examples from the life of Abraham. . . - Abraham. . .was told that he would have the

holy land So he went and lived in a place unfamiliar to him

- Abraham was told that he would have a son

even though he and his wife were past child bearing years

So. . .put on some Barry White, lit some candles. . .yadda yadda yadda. . blessed with Isaac

- And the best. . Abraham’s act of faith – Told he is to be the Father of many nations – and he only has one son. .Isaac. . . when Asked to sacrifice him . .he doesn’t hold back

Abraham had faith in God and his promise. He reasoned that God must be able to raise Isaac

from the dead A future reality . . .affected the way Abraham lived

in his present moment. Faith is the realization of things hoped for. Who hopes to go to heaven? I do, and so we can

start to live as if we were already living there. In heaven who are we going to be with? God. . .

We can be with God now. . . Do you hope God will fulfill you in heaven? Then let

him fulfill you now Will you worry in heaven? Then stop worrying now. That’s hard to do Fr. Dave, you say. I know, it takes

power - the power of Faith. Let us, through Faith, become the people we wish to be – a people after God’s own heart.

“Jesus said to his disciples:

‘Do not be afraid any longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.’”

In Christ,

Sunflowers- Following Jesus

Recently you may have heard about the project in our parish with regard to planting “Sunflowers.” We may wish to to ask ourselves; how do Sunflowers equate to following Jesus? Sunflowers follow the sun. As the sun moves in the sky through the course of the day, the sunflower follows. How do we equate this to Christianity? It is best described in a beautiful children’s song written by Carey Landry. The lyrics beautifully say, “Like a sunflower that follows every movement of the sun, so I turn toward you to follow you my God.” It is safe to say that we too are sunflowers. The sunflower follows the sun just as we follow the “SON.” The SON we follow is Jesus as we walk in his light.

tion of Adults." The RCIA program of the Catho-lic Church is oriented towards those who are searching and inquiring about the Catholic way of life. If you feel you are ready to take the first step, call the office at 732-295-3630. Inquiry ses-sions begin on September 18. HIGH SCHOOL CONFIRMATION

Meetings: Sunday 5-7 pm downstairs

Lakewood Blueclaws Faith and Family Night: On Tuesday, August 23, the Blueclaws will pay tribute to all church youth groups. Many of you have asked me if we get another night in the luxury suite that I wrote about last week since the game got rained out. Unfortunately we don’t get to at-tend another game in the suite, but we can trade in those tickets for regular seats at another game, so many of us will use them on Faith & Family night. I invite all of our youth and families to attend with us on August 23. We were limited to 20 attendees in the suite, but there’s practi-cally no limit for the Faith and Family night. Please contact me by August 15 if you’d like to attend, so that I can keep all the seats close to-gether. Benefit Dinner: There will be a fundraising dinner to benefit one of our youth, Matt Tomaino. Matt is entering his junior year and walks with a brace on his leg and a walking stick. Thanks to a special type of racer that is a hybrid of a wheelchair and a bicycle, Matt is able to compete on the high school track team. He earned 6 medals at the Ocean County Meet of Champions, and was re-cently featured in the Ocean Star sports section. If you haven’t seen the article, it is posted on the Youth Ministry bulletin board, in the hallway just outside of the church dining room door. He needs a new racer, which is very expensive. A spaghetti dinner will be held on August 21 from 4-8pm at the Pt. Pleasant Elks Lodge. Tickets are $20, with all proceeds going to the cost of the racer. Tickets can be purchased through me or by calling Dennis or Karen Nobel at 732-899-9253.
