We Are YourLaptop Repair Specialists

After thirteen yearsand over 33,000customers served, theComputer Fare Storeshave grown anddiversif ied to meetmore peoples’ ITneeds. We sell newand refurbishedlaptops, desktops, components andperipherals. Weservice all brands in our 2 facilities (1590 Columbia Turnpike or3770 Carman Road) as well as at your location. In addition to the Dell brand of new computers, laptops, LCDmonitors and printers, we now carry ASUS, Lenovo and Toshibalaptops. The brand we currently sell the most of is ASUS, andfor good reason. The ASUS brand has been around a long time as the premiummanufacturer of computer components. If you were a computergeek ten or fifteen years ago and wanted to build a computerof the highest quality, you would use ASUS motherboards andvideo cards.Today ASUS makes dozens of models of laptops. They are ofhigher quality than what you’ll find in most big box stores. Themodels we carry come with a one year warranty and one yearof accidental damage coverage. If you drop or spill somethingon one of our ASUS laptops and break it, the manufacturer willreplace it, one time, during the first year.Every computer we sell, or service, receives an Internet securitysuite and features that big box stores charge extra for. Many of our first time customers have been surprised to findthat the diagnosis of their computer problem that they receivedelsewhere, including via the manufacturer’s phone support, was completely wrong. It is not uncommon for a referred

customer who thought their motherboard or hard drive wasdead, or that all their data was lost, to find a simpler problemand that all their data is safe.We have technicians who can take a laptop apart down to thelast screw, do solder repair of the motherboard and reassembleit good as new. Other shops will be all too happy to sell you anew computer, but we can more often make the repair a betteroption.Should replacement be your choice, we can transfer files fromyour old computer even if the old computer doesn’t work andoffer a generous trade in allowance. You’ll notice the difference when you call either Computer Farelocation @ 479-0948 (Greenbush) or 356-4400 (Guilderland). We have skilled technicians answering the phones – no voicemenu – no thick foreign accent. Our young part-timetechnicians; Taylor, Ryan, Carl, Dan, and Christian, are allgraduates of Columbia High School who are now working theirway through college. Each has particular skills that complimentthose of our seasoned staff; Gary, Jay, Ralph, Rob and Dave, making Greenbush Computer Fare the most experiencedcomputer shop from sea to shining sea.

my own Independence party, plus the Conservative andRepublican Parties. Throughout my years as a councilman,I have listened to what people say, focused on what our towncan afford, and guided town projects to their completion. I’veattended meetings and workshops, met with county and stateofficials, and read volumes of paperwork so that I could makeappropriate decisions for my one vote as a board member. I’mnot a politician in the sense that I want to “run things” or moveto a higher position in the future. I’m a town employee and Iserve the people in my town. I’m a member of a four persontown board plus our supervisor. We have various points ofview, but we listen to each other and try to resolve our differentopinions to create good choices and good government forour town. We live in a progressive and expanding community. Our future will be full of difficult choices. We need people onthe board who are fair, who will listen to what people say andbe open minded. We need people on the board who have thetime to attend meetings and workshops, meet with countyand state officials, and read volumes of paperwork to beknowledgeable about what their vote means.I work to make decisions that are in the best interest of theentire town. If you vote for me, I will continue serving youwith my honesty, openness, enthusiasm, and love for ourcommunity.

RECEIVER OF TAXES TOWN CLERKSUPERVISOR

For the past few months we have beenencouraged as we have met residentsgoing door to door, doing our best todeliver a positive message for EastGreenbush. At the same time it isimportant to be honest about the fiscalproblems we have in front of us and

identify a prudent course of action to address them. The currentadministration seems to boast about progress, but fails to betruly forthcoming with audits, our finances and representing thelandscape of how the new tax revenue will reduce or eliminatethe need for a tax increase. We need to be more proactive inhow we govern and more honest with taxpayers. Our goal as ateam is to do in office the job that is not being done by thecurrent administration. Times are tough for everyone, includinggovernment and we cannot continue to pretend like everythingis perfect. It is time for us to face the facts about where we arefinancially, so we can restore and invigorate everything we loveabout our Town. It’s not an easy job, but we are prepared toassume this responsibility and include the community as weprepare for a future we deserve. The only way we can ensurethat taxpayers are represented by dedicated officials who willemploy their full effort to the cause, is to elect new leaders whowill review how our Town is run objectively and restore our TownGovernment to an efficient and productive system that servesthe people it represents! SCHODACK REPUBLICANS DISAPPOINT

POLITICS IN GOVERNMENT CLASS

Letter to the Editor: I was sorely disappointed to learn thethree Republican candidates running for office this year inSchodack have declined to participate in a Meet the Candidatesnight that was slated for later this month. Their refusal is a slapin the face to residents who would have benefited from meetingthose who want to continue to run the town; Supervisor DennisDowds, Councilmen Mike Kenney & Frank Curtis, and a blow tostudents in the Maple Hill High School’s Participation inGovernment (PIG) Class. PIG was helping organize this normallyannual event at the high school. The Schodack Planning and Development Association, a groupthat also sponsors these events, was told Monday, Oct. 3,that Republicans would not be attending. Weeks ago,Republicans were given a variety of dates from which to choose, but “were busy” each evening proposed.Democratic candidate Linda Underwood was more than willingto work around the other three candidates schedules and hasalways been more than willing to speak with all residents. Why have Mr. Dowds, Mr. Kenney and Mr. Curtis chosen not toparticipate in this public process. What are they trying to hide? What questions do they not want to answer? It has made me,a voter and the mother of a PIG student, who now with herclass has to scramble to figure out how to participate in a localgovernment that seems to not want to participate in anythingto do with the public.Ms. Underwood, a lifelong advocate for this town and itspeople, has my vote and I sincerely hope others follow suitand elect a candidate who really cares about the town and thepeople in it.Schodack Democrats will host a Meet the Candidates nightOctober 25 at the VFW Post on Scott Avenue to which allcandidates are invited. Unfortunately, the PIG class will haveto find another venue in which to learn about town government. It is very disappointing our town officials choose not to supportthe students they claim to hold in such high regard.~Kristin Shaw, SchodackEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity ofits contents.

CANDIDATE’S INTRODUCTION

SERIOUSLY FLAWED

Letter to the Editor: Ed Gilbert’s attempt to introduce himself tovoters in East Greenbush (9/15/11 Advertiser) was seriously flawed

on a number of levels.Mr. Gilbert tried to not so conspicuously tell voters that hisstepbrother is a judge. The only obvious reason for doing so is to

try to use that judicial office for Mr. Gilbert’s own private benefit. Itis as if Mr. Gilbert is saying, “Vote for me because my family alreadyhas political power or connections.”

Mr. Gilbert identifies his wife and other family members who live inEast Greenbush, but he only refers to the “job” of his stepbrother, the judge. Is Mr. Gilbert not proud of his other relatives?

Is Mr. Gilbert aware that a judge is not allowed to use his office foranything that benefits that judge or his family? Maybe Mr. Gilbertused his stepbrother’s name and office without Judge Hummel’s

permission, but someone must come forward and apologize for orexplain this improper action, or explain how Mr. Gilbert is not usinga judicial office for his own benefit.

If Judge Hummel allowed the use of his name in this manner in Mr.Gilbert’s article, then the judge should respond to or explain whythis would be an exception to the rule regarding his family’s benefiting

from the use of his name and office, and how and why this occurred.Mr. Gilbert’s entry into local politics also attempts to persuade votersthat his job helps “ensure student loans are available to those seeking

a better life.” I am informed that these loans with the State areavailable based on State formulas and need, not on the subjectivewhim of Mr. Gilbert. As such, Mr. Gilbert is not responsible for

students getting loans.Rick Matters, from the same political party as Mr. Gilbert in EastGreenbush, is a decent politician. I say this because this is not an

attack on a political party. Politicians must be responsible and actresponsibly, and they will not be if they are reckless and misinformthe public during their pursuit of public office.

RELIGION AND POLITICS, DO THEY MIX?Sunday, October 16, 2011, is “Peace with Justice” Sunday onmany Christian calendars. In worship at the Stuyvesant andthe Nassau Reformed Churches, with focus on “Religion andPolitics, Do They Mix?” In the sermon of that title, the ReverendEdward L. Van Kampen will look at the message in Matthew22:15-22 where Jesus takes a hit from his critics in Rome. TheStuyvesant Reformed Church worships at 9 a.m. in its sanctuaryat the corner of Church Street and Route 9J, in the hamlet ofStuyvesant. Young folk are welcome to worship; and they areinvited to remain in the sanctuary following the children’s messageto engage in self-study activities related to that message. The Nassau Reformed Church worships at 11 a.m. in its chapelon the second level of the Church-School-Building, 43 ChurchStreet (route 20). Christian Education begins with a “Ministrywith the Young” in the sanctuary before adjourning to class.

VOTE THEM OUT!Letter to the Editor: As a disabled resident of Sand Lake, I find itastonishing that Steve Robelotto, Ray Turner and John Glasserwould have the nerve to try to regain their seats on the TownBoard. Because of their ineptitude and arrogance, taxpayers havean expensive federal lawsuit instead of the handicapped accessiblevan our State grant was supposed to buy and our communityvolunteers worked so hard to get. None of us are getting anyyounger, and it would have been nice to think that transportationfor doctor’s appointments and other necessities could keep us inour own homes and out of nursing homes just a little longer. Can you believe they are claiming that they put Sand Lake first?Did Robelotto put our seniors and handicapped residents firstwhen “he” alone decided to purchase a van that did not meet therequirements of the grant the Town received? Did Glasser andTurner put our residents first when they chose to waste thousandsof tax dollars defending legal action rather than comply with federallaw? The legal fees that town residents will now pay for cost morethan the purchase of a van that would be in compliance. It is timeto put Sand Lake first all right and vote them out!~Sue Gersten, Averill ParkEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of

CLASS WARFARELetter to the Editor: Republican leaders are now engaged in acoordinated attack against President Obama by accusing himof waging Class Warfare. What is he doing to deserve suchan accusation? He’s seeking to raise taxes on the very wealthyto help balance the budget and ensure shared sacrifice in hardtimes. Their accusation is the latest example of Republicandivisive politics, and also a diversion from the reality of incomeand wealth inequality in America. They promote the myth thatours is a classless society, but we all know better. The gapbetween the rich and the rest of us keeps growing. It is now common practice that executives of big corporationspay themselves enormous amounts of money whileunemployment grows and communities deteriorate. In 2004,the CEOs of many top U.S. corporations received 431 timesmore than the average worker in their companies. Bycomparison, the ratio in Britain is about 25 to 1; in Japan, about 11 to 1. Actual pay rose from about $2 million in 1990 to$11.8 million in 2004. In 2010, the top 25 U.S. corporationspaid their CEOs more than they did in taxes. Verizon, forexample, which earned $11.9 billion in pretax profits, receiveda $705 million tax refund and paid its CEO $18.1 million. Howmuch has your pay risen in recent years? Of course, incentiveis necessary in a free economy, but are there no limits to howmuch of our national wealth they take? The last time we sawsuch income and wealth inequity was just before the GreatDepression in the 1930s.Tea Party and middle class anger is misdirected at governmentbecause it is large corporations, aided by Republicans, thatship jobs overseas, don’t invest in the U.S. or for the longterm, fight collective bargaining and all wage increases, fightfinancial regulations that protect average people, fight healthinsurance for all while enjoying it themselves, fix the tax codeto their benefit, and drain public funds for corporate welfare. And the middle class disappears. So who wages class warfare?~Michael Roland, NassauEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinion

OLD DOG, STRAY DOGEvery year animal control officersreceive calls about old dogs whosuddenly and mysteriously disap-pear. The dog may have stayed onthe property for 10 years or morewith no inclination to leave. Dogowners tend to feel comfortable as the dog ages. After all, ifhe hasn’t wandered off by now he isn’t likely to. Yet, one daythe old dog is gone. Unfortunately, too many of these old dogsare never seen alive again. Most owners do not consider thefact that, as dogs age, they share some of the same changesas humans. Some dogs don’t see as well or hear as well asthey used to. Arthritis is common as well as changes in behavior.Cognitive changes may progress slowly and may be easy tomiss. Like people, dogs vary greatly in how they age. Whendementia occurs in dogs, it can involve subtle or dramaticbehavior. A dog may appear disoriented at times. His sleepinghabits may change, his housebreaking may suffer and he maynot respond to circumstances as he used to. A dog may exhibitone sign of dementia or many. One of the most commonbehaviors is an old dog walking aimlessly. It is not at all unusualfor an old dog to simply walk, putting one foot in front of theother, with no destination in mind. This behavior is not unusualin humans with dementia, as we know. In the case of a dogwho always stayed on the property without use of a fence, wenow have a dog walking aimlessly into the woods or roadway. When these dogs get tired, they simply lay down whereverthey are, in a ditch, in the road or in the woods. If and whenthey get up again, many of these poor animals have no directionof travel in mind. If they get too wet, too cold and too lost, theold dog may not survive. It is important to pay close attention to behavior changes inaging dogs. If there are signs of disorientation, see yourveterinarian. There are some drugs that may help. At thevery least, the older dog should be safely contained in a fencedyard and watched closely.~Catherine Crawmer, Animal Control Officer 477-8230

CIRCLE THEATRE PLAYERS “TRYING”

Columbia County actors, Tracy Trimm of Chatham and NellieRustick of Claverack star in Circle Theatre Players seasonopener, ‘Trying’ by Joanna McClelland Glass.Directed by Nancy Wilder, this richly scripted true story illustrateshow strangers, at opposite extremes of life, can poignantlyand humorously forever influence each other. Trying is about a“green” young girl, fresh off the Canadian prairie and an oldaristocratic curmudgeon “trying” to negotiate and span theenormous differences of youth and age, and of class andculture. STAMMEL SUPPORTS RESIDENTS’ EFFORT

TO HAVE BOARD RECONSIDER BUS

CANCELLATION

Rensselaer County Legislator Mike Stammel said he supports

an effort by Rensselaer residents to have the city schooldistrict’s Board of Education to reconsider a decision to abruptlycancel bus transportation for many students.City residents last week presented the school district with whatis known as a 310 appeal. The appeal asks the State EducationDepartment commissioner to also review the action taken bythe school district and Board of Education.“This sudden move by the school district has prompted realconcern from many parents who, with little advance warningor notice, are being forced to scramble to get their kids toschool,” said Stammel.“I believe the move by the school district should definitely bereviewed by the State Education Department commissioner, and the best interests of the students be considered,” addedStammel.Last week, Stammel noted that he had been contacted bymany parents concerned that students living one mile or closerwould not receive bus transportation during the 2011-2012.Parents say the decision by the school district has created aninconvenience for their family and that sufficient notice wasnot given to families affected by the move.Parents have also cited safety concerns and say the movealso goes back on a promise made when parents were asked tosupport construction of a new school and were assured thatbus transportation would be provided.“Parents were told during the vote on the school issue that thenew school would be safer because all students would betransported. You have to wonder if there was a bait and switch,”said Stammel.

AMY CLINTON ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY

FOR NO. GREENBUSH RECEIVER of TAXES

I am very excited to introducemyself to the residents of theTown of North Greenbush. Myname is Amy Clinton and I am acandidate for Receiver of Taxesfor the Town of North Greenbushin this fall’s election. I am lookingforward to the opportunity toserve our town and to get toknow all of you on an individualbasis in the coming months. My husband Neal and I havechosen to make a home and raisea family in North Greenbush. I wasborn and raised in Kinderhook, NY

which has given me an appreciation for living in a small, closeknit community. In 2001, shortly after my husband Neal and Imarried, we moved to North Greenbush to enjoy all the benefitsthis community has to offer. We have two beautiful girls ages6 and 8 that are the light of our lives and who are educated inour local public school system.I received my management degree from Johnson & WalesUniversity, worked as a Sales Manager at a local hotel, and forthe past six years as the executive director for the NY Chapterof the American College of Surgeons. In my professional career,I have gained considerable experience managing assets, meeting schedules and responding to the needs of our clients. This experience has also prepared me to ensure any questionsor concerns from residents are resolved promptly. This commitment to constituent service will extend to theoperation of the office of Receiver of Taxes. As receiver oftaxes, I will make myself available at hours convenient forworking families and seniors to drop off their payments. I willalso be setting up a number of handy locations throughout thetown to drop off those payments, and regularly reviewing otherways to expand services to our town.In my candidacy for Receiver of Taxes, I am proud to havebeen endorsed by the Republican, Conservative andIndependence parties. My candidacy has been supported byresidents across the town, and I look forward to serving andworking for our town.

Langley invites ALL residents ofEast Greenbush to join his team!

In an effort to bring the Towntogether and demonstrate thekind of leadership we need togrow, heal and rebuild as acommunity, I reached out tomembers of the currentadministration to share my ideasand visions for where we need togo as a town and what we needto do to get there. In a sincereconversation with the current townEngineer, I shared my thoughts

about attracting businesses to 9&20 among other initiativesand found that our goals are mutual, but we differ in ourapproach. I care not for political solutions to problems, ratherthe right solutions. We can only improve our situation byembracing ALL the talent at our disposal and not using anarrow approach that ignores our liabilities and our assetsequally. If the administration is frustrating its own people tothe point that they are willing to embrace new ideas fromnew leaders, perhaps it is time for that new leadership.I look forward to the opportunity to bring new life to EastGreenbush and welcome Independents, Conservatives,Democrats and Republicans to participate in the effort todo so. ALL registered voters have a voice in our newapproach and we invite you to join our team as we prepareto go to work for you! paid advertisement

Or willshe be doing town business while being paid by BOCES?Double dipping, tax payers should not tolerate! PART TIME, the work will fall upon other departments.Although she states she will not “hire” anyone else, there is a“confidential secretary” in place. She will increase his salaryto handle HER day to day duties and believe me, there are ALOT of those. Lets not make the same mistake twice. The current Supervisor has not been able to handle the dayto day decisions over the last two years. We had a full timeDemocrat Supervisor, a Democrat Deputy Supervisor and hispersonal “confidential Democrat Secretary” that cost the votersover $108,000. During this t ime we tolerated“incompetence, laziness and indecision” more than anyother time. My opponent believes you are not smart enoughto see through her empty promises and inability to do it all. The residents deserve to know that there wasincompetence, laziness and indecision when Flora’slongtime friend and confident, Chris Kronau was town clerk. She kept my opponent apprised of my activities through emailand by copying my mail (all illegally). So much time as a“Flora Spy”, that she was responsible for negligence in herjob as Former Town Clerk. This resulted in a lawsuit whichhad our new zoning laws declared null and void. Former TownClerk Chris Kronau worked on average less than 25 hours aweek while collecting over $40,000 and reporting full timeemployment to New York State Retirement (costing the townmore money)I have experience and leadership. Please vote for ME!

“SILLY SEASON PART 2” SAYSSUPERVISOR CANDIDATE ROBELOTTO

paid advertisement

“SILLY SEASON IS UPON US AGAIN” SAYS

SUPERVISOR CANDIDATE ROBELOTTO

JUST THE FACTS: When I agreed to run for Supervisor, I told my opponent to dothe job right it would have to be FULL TIME. There was noagreement to work two different jobs. The Democrats changedthe Supervisor position to full time in the 1980’s due to increasedwork load and obviously decided this was the RIGHT decision. Iam also GIVING up my FULL-TIME position if elected to allowsomeone else the position. The real reason the Democrats chose not to endorse me after3 terms, was I worked hand and hand with my republican andconservative board members creating a working relationshipand ELIMINATING politics and moving the town forward. Myopponent ORDERED her committee not to endorse me AFTERthe republicans approached the committee with the crossendorsement. I guess she doesn’t like to work together sinceit has always been her way or the highway. (If you don’tbelieve me just ask her former legislative members.)The residents of this town should really ask my opponent whyhave three winning Candidates left the Democratic Party alongwith many Democratic supporters to run against them? Maybebecause they felt that it was more important to serve thepeople than to be DIRECTED like puppets to fulfill the goals of“FASOLDT, FLEMING & CIOFFI”.She also stated that she would do the job for $15,000 less. Sothen you do the math, that means she is still going to receive$29,000 for a part time job. She would make more than theTown Attorney and Two Town Justices, all people who devotemore than part-time hours to the town!Listen, when experience and leadership counts, you can dependon me to get the job done. Nobody is perfect, however, I haveALWAYS acted in the best interests of the town and the taxpayers. Steve Robelotto, Candidate – Sand Lake Supervisor

SCHODACK REPUBLICANS SNUB LEAGUE

OF WOMEN VOTERS CANDIDATES NIGHTLetter to the Editor: I don’t know what Schodack’s Republicancandidates are afraid of. Lead by Rich Crist, they have declinedparticipation in the Meet the Candidates Night, sponsored by theSchodack Planning and Development Association, and moderatedby the League of Women Voters. “Everyone’s busy”, was the excuse given, though several dateswere offered weeks ago. Mike Kenney didn’t bother responding toeither the invitation or any follow up inquiries as to his availability.Just rude, in my opinion. They hold all elected and appointed positions in town government, the Supervisor is running unopposed, and the Democrats arerunning one candidate for Council. The Republican incumbentshad nothing to lose, yet still snubbed this event, which in the pasthas drawn crowds in the hundreds.Does the Town Board not want to be questioned about the cronyismthat has driven the last three appointments they’ve made?Mike Kenney, never once spotted at a Town meeting before lastyear, was appointed to fill Ken Stinner’s Board seat last summer, under cover of darkness (i.e. not on that night’s agenda). Hisqualifications for office: being nephew to Legislator Alex Shannonand helping Green Meadow build a playground.Connections over competence.James Church, recent appointee to the Planning Board, wasappointed on his credentials as a former Bruno operative. Theplanning vacancy was never advertised to the public.Ex-Planning Board Chair Peter Goold was recently appointed TownAssessor, without serious competition or experience for the job.The obvious conclusion: Schodack residents aren’t fairlyconsidered for appointed or salaried posts in town government.Do incumbent candidates fear questions about our taxes continuingto rise or the ongoing spending spree with our money they’vevoted to approve? We’ll never know because they are too busy to talk to us or listento concerns about issues we feel are important. The nepotism, cronyism, and lack of transparency andaccountability, rampant in our town have gotten us here: highesttaxes around, unchallenged spending decisions, questionableappointments. As an elected official, wouldn’t you want the opportunity to reachout to those you allegedly represent? Isn’t that what democracy isall about? ~Elizabeth Gable, Democratic Committee Chairwww.schodackdemocrats.comEditor’s Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and for allintents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of itscontents.

LEGAL NOTICE

POLITICS OR PROGRESS IN

NORTH GREENBUSH

Letter to the Editor: I agree with a recent letter concerning theholding of multiple elective offices by one person as unhealthy forthe town and government in general. While it’s clear that politicianslike Mr. Desso and Mr. Spain appear willing to run on any andevery line to hold onto power, it’s equally clear that voters prefer tohave a choice and to make the decisions at the polls. Both of thesepoliticians have now tried to run both as Democrats and Republicansin order to avoid an election and deny voters a choice. When laws are changed to benefit a politician and enable him tohold a second conflicting elective office, politics and not people arethe winners. The changing of the county laws by the RensselaerCounty Legislature to permit legislators to serve on town boardswas just another example of the arrogance that too many politiciansacquire over time.In North Greenbush, there are many issues voters should considerbesides allowing a politician to have too much power. The currenttown board hired non resident attorneys as political favors ratherthan attorneys who live here and have a stake in our town. They awarded a $30,000 no bid contract to unnecessarily redo thecompleted Comprehensive Plan to curry favor with friends and avendor who got the contract. They have ignored a valuable Stategrant worth $35,000 to revamp Main Avenue and appear to haveno plan to deal with the yearly flooding in Wynantskill, get the I-90connector moving to bring new jobs and shorten our everincreasing drives back and forth to work, or do something aboutthe FIVE year abandoned state of the corner of RT 4&43.There is so much that needs to be done and can be done toimprove the quality of life in North Greenbush. This will only comewhen people hold public office to bring progress to the towninstead of power and politics.Submitted by, John Hebert, WynantskillEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity ofits contents.
