Three EU Projects for ICTs applied to health/well-being

PICKFIBER Platform for International Collaborative Knowledge on Food Improvement Based on Ecological Resources (Interreg IVC)

HOSTSmart Technologies for Self-service to Seniors in Social Housing (AAL Programme)

TeleSCoPETelehealth Services Code Of Practice for Europe (Health Programme 2008 – 2013)

All three projects deal with EU priorities for improving quality of life and well-being of citizens with the mediation of ICTs.

PICKFIBER

Objective: development and test of novel food components based on organic fibers with specific properties to fight obesity and associated conditions

PICKFIBER

Outcomes: a set of protocols for the evaluation of organic and conventional sources of fibers for food components together with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Clinical Practices (GCP) in health-related tests on food components an ontology-supported e-knowledge for the evaluation of obesity and related co-morbidities, which takes into account the effects of healthy food or food ingredients too

HOST

Objectives: deliver a set of services via an ICT platform, specifically conceived for the elders to help them maintain their independence and, at the same time, not making them feel left to their own devices and stimulate social interaction postpone as much as possible the transition of the older tenants to an elder care facility

HOST

Outcomes: a technological platform offering a set of services helping the elders in being more independent, keep a high level of activity and avoid isolation and loneliness

a client-side application running on tablet PCs specifically conceived for the elderly users a server side management set of tools, used by both the project’s technical staff and service providers/operators participating in the project

TeleSCoPE

Objectives: development of a comprehensive code of practice for European telehealth services that will serve as a quality benchmark for services to be assessed and certified against, to help ensure that the final beneficiaries of the services are safeguarded

TeleSCoPE

Outcomes: a set of four “Foundation Papers” used to outline the structure and contents of the Code of Practice (FP1 – Glossary of terms, FP2 – Ethics and good practice, FP3 – Overview of literature and background information, FP4 – Towards a Code of Practice for telehealth services) a code of practice for Europe to assess and certify telehealth services

ten sections, each one containing a set of clauses establishing principles and requirements that European telehealth services should be compliant with topics addressed include, among others, ethical principles, personal information management, contact with users and carers and interpretation of and responses to information

Shared objectives between the three projects

they contribute to the improvement of both the living conditions of the general public and the state of healthcare practice, by means of dedicated ICT solutions and promotion of good practice frameworks they share the intent of producing and/or fostering innovation in the field of ICT applied to healthcare they can be seen together as a digital ecosystem

individuals are both humans and digital agents: Humans are responsible for the creation and evolution of agents, which, in turn, provide humans services supporting the needs the ecosystem has been created for
