Malaysia Airlines – winners of theWorld Travel Awards for Asia’sLeading Airline and Asia’s LeadingAirline Lounge at the Asia &Australasia Gala Ceremony earlierthis year – is one of the largestcarriers on the continent.
With its subsidiaries, the airline employs20,000 staff, flying 15.7 million passengersin 2010, serving almost 100 destinationsglobally in more than 30 countries acrossAsia, Australasia, Europe, Africa and North andSouth America.
Its current group of fleet comprises 126aircraft, including ten Boeing 747-400s, 17777-200s, 11 Airbus A330-300s, 11Boeing 737-800s and 37 737-400s. Its orders include six Airbus A380s, fordelivery from 2012.

In one of the most surprising and excitingdevelopments of the year, Malaysia Airlinesput aside a decade of competition withbudget carrier AirAsia in favour of closercooperation.
A share swap, signed by the carriers inAugust, will reduce competition and cut costsin one of Asia's key economies.
Under the agreement, resources forMalaysian Airline low-cost carrier, Firefly, willbe refocused toward a full, regional service,reducing competition for AirAsia.
Looking Forward
Malaysia Airlines is expected to start flying aspart of oneworld in late 2012 after beingelected on board as a member designate ofthe alliance in June this year.
Under the sponsorship of Qantas, MalaysiaAirlines intends to develop bilateral links witha number of oneworld's established partners,building on existing code-share deals withoneworld partners Cathay Pacific and RoyalJordanian.

The Ministry of Tourism is the agencyresponsible for the development andpromotion of tourism in India.
It is no co-incidence that Asia Pacificdestinations grew by six per cent year-on-year in August 2011, according torecent figures from the Pacific Asia TravelAssociation (PATA).
Arrivals to India grew at five per cent inAugust as the country welcomed anadditional 20,000 visitors whencompared to the same period theprevious year.
South Asia was the second fastestgrowing sub-region in August 2011, PATAadded.

World Islands Awards will take place on the eve on ITB Berlin 2012, withMauritius Tourism Promotion Authoritysigned as the official partner. It is theonly event of its kind dedicated torecognising Island Tourism around the world.
The inaugural ceremony will take place atHotel Adlon Kempinski, Berlin’s mostexclusive five-star hotel, on 6 March 2012.
