From My Desk...I keep hoping for better times, less worries, more health, less crime less violence, less hunger, less abuse, and I say less because we could hope for none at all, but that is a whole other story.

I have felt loss, and dispair, I even felt no hope at all, but life always shows me a brighter day, and my Faith takes over changing it all.

I am an optimistic and a believer that everything will be better, and that everyonewill lend a hand, or help and even care. I hope... to see a better world.

One thing I got to taste, eternal undying love. And I am thankful for that.

We hope you enjoy this issue we have tons of creativity, talent, success and endless beauty. A Palavra e o PoetaMisty

Autor: Nilton Bustamante

Poema do livro PASSAGEIRA

SeaWorld's 50th Celebration is a Sea of SurprisesSeaWorld Parks & Enter-tainment launched a multi-park celebration to com-memorate a key event in the company's history.

The original SeaWorld® Park opened its gates for the first time in March 1964 on Mission Bay in San Di-ego.

SeaWorld’s 50th Celebra-tion features a Sea of Sur-prises(TM) throughout an 18-month celebration high-lighting some of the most memorable SeaWorld ex-periences in San Diego, Orlando and San Antonio.

For nearly five decades, SeaWorld has surprised and amazed guests with unique entertainment, thrilling rides and up-close encounters with animals. During SeaWorld’s 50(th) Celebration visitors will be invited to take part in the excitement through new interactive experiences, shows and pathway per-formances, even more up-close animal encounters throughout the park and “The SeaWorld Surprise Squad” treating guests with prizes every day.

SeaWorld’s 50(th) Celebration Sea of Surprises(TM) Highlights

• SeaWorld San Diego will celebrate 50 years by completely trans-forming the park’s ar-rival experience. Explor-er’s Reef(TM) will open in March for the cele-bration kick-off, and im-mediately immerse park guests into an undersea oasis. From the moment they enter the park, guests can connect with the sea through multiple touch pools featuring shark pups, rays, skates and delicate little clean-er fish.

• SeaWorld is known for amazing entertain-ment and each park will have something new for the 50(th) celebration. Kicking off on March 21, Park pathways will come to life with spontaneous entertainment.

• “Bubble Blowout” is sure to be a guest favorite with a fantastical vehiclecre-ating bubbles of all siz-es and shapes. Engag-ing performances with sea-inspired costumes and props will pop up at unexpected moments to surprise guests

throughout the day, like “Splash Dance” and the “Sea Street Band.”

• Starting this summer, new shows offer guests the chance to celebrate the longer park hours. “Shamu’s Celebration: Light Up The Night” is a nighttime Shamu Show debuting at all three Sea-World parks.

SeaWorld's 50th Celebration is a Sea of Surprises

SeaWorld guests are often greeted by an animal am-bassador, many of whomwere orphaned or injured in the wild and given a sec-ond chance thanks to the SeaWorld Rescue Team. As part of SeaWorld's 50th Celebration, there will be more surprise encounters with animal ambassadors throughout the day. A pair of Magellanic penguins, a lemur, or even a parade offlamingos could surprise guests at any moment at all three SeaWorld locations.

• To showcase SeaWor-ld's commitment to the environment and pas-

sion for protecting the ocean, a series of giant sea life sculptures will be displayed throughout the parks. SeaWorld com-missioned environmen-tal art group The Washed Ashore Project for a col-lection of larger-than-life

sea-themed sculptures - many weighing more than half a ton.

• The material used to create these pieces comes from the billions of pounds of garbage - mostly plastics - that wind up in our oceans.

• These amazing works of

art point to the urgent need to protect marine animals from such dangers and pre-serve their ocean habitats.• As part of its continuing

commitment to new tech-nology that enhances the

guest experience, Sea-World's 50th Celebration will include new ways for fans to connect to the parks and each other though dig-ital devices.

The parks will be launching a variety of enhancements, from interactive apps that provide fun new ways to experience the park to new games and video content.

Take Me Fishing™ Hooks Walt Disney World Resort Guests On Fishing And Boating

TakeMeFishing.org Connects Children and Families with Nature through its Sponsorship of the Fun Ed-ucational Fishing and Boating Experiences at Walt Disney World Resort

In today's age where getting kids outside to exercise and enjoy nature can be more challenging than ever, Take Me Fishing(TM) and Walt Disney World Resort are making it easier for families to connect with the outdoors through fishing and boating.

Beginning this month, The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) and its Take Me Fish-ing(TM) campaign are sponsoring the fun and edu-cational family catch-and-release fishing and boat-ing experiences offered to guests at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

Three locations at the resort offer Take Me Fish-ing(TM) branded guided fishing and boating experi-ences. In addition, visitors to Disney's Fort Wilder-ness Resort & Campground have the opportunity to participate in dockside fishing, while visitors at Disney's Port Orleans Resort-Riverside can try their hand at cane pole fishing. Guests can also enjoy the "Take Me Fishing Challenge" recently introduced at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.

"With the popularity of fishing and boating on the rise with women and children in the U.S., collabo-rating with the Walt Disney World Resort is helping us get even more families engaged in these sports," said Frank Peterson, president and CEO of RBFF. "Our collective dedication to conservation and fam-ily activity make this relationship ideal to showcas-ing the magic of fishing and boating."

Guests who boat and fish at the Walt Disney World Resort will be encouraged to continue these memo-rable experiences at home by connecting with Take-MeFishing.org, which provides more information about where to boat and fish in their local commu-nities. Parents can also find how-to videos to learn fishing basics as well as additional safety tips and advice.

In addition to Take Me Fishing's presence at the Walt Disney WorldResort, they have a relationship with Disney Media Networks to spread the word about the benefits of fishing and boating. This rela-tionship includes sponsorships on Disney Channel and Disney XD, activating through Radio Disney at popular events around the country, as well as inte-gration of the Take Me Fishing messaging in online content and mobile apps.

Orange County Mayor Jacobs called in the experts — student athletes from four local winning high school basket-ball teams — to help her with her NCAA bracket selections. On hand to assist the Mayor were bas-ketball champions from Winter Park (boys), Evans (boys), Edgewater (girls) and Wekiva (girls) High Schools. The ex-perts all agreed it would be Florida all the way. “One great Florida university, FSU, brought home the National Football Championship this year, so I feel excited and confident to predict another great center of learning, the University of Florida, is going to match that achieve-ment by bringing home the National Basketball Championship,” said Mayor Jacobs. The students assisted in creating Mayor Jacobs’ bracket for the NCAA 2014 Bas-ketball Championship games, which will be held at the Amway Center on Thurs-day, March 20 and Saturday, March 22. The participating students were select-ed by their high school principals. “When Mayor Jacobs asked for our championship male and female basket-ball student athletes to help with her

bracket selections, we were so excit-ed,” said Orange County Public Schools spokeswoman Kathy Marsh. “Our stu-dent athletes are sharp and well-trained on what to seek in quality college ath-letes.” Student athletes arrived at the Orange County Administration Center in their team uniforms and gathered in the Mayor’s Conference Room to go over the NCAA 2014 Basketball Champion-ship brackets and the picks for Mayor Jacobs. "It was great to join with basketball champs from across Orange County to help Mayor Jacobs select her bracket," said Dewey Johnson of Winter Park High School. "We think we've got a winning bracket!" WKMG Local 6, hosts of the NCAA 2014 Basketball Championship games, and Orange TV recorded the bracket selec-tion.

Guests boarded and toured SunRail during the preview celebration for the Sand Lake Road station. Orange County, FL – Orange County celebrated the opening of the newest SunRail station at the intersection of Sand Lake Road and Orange Avenue last Sunday afternoon, March 30. The Sand Lake Road station preview celebration welcomed community leaders, elected officials and citizens to the historical event.

Festivities began at 1 p.m. with re-marks and a proclamation read by District 3 Commissioner Pete Clarke. Representative Linda Stewart praised the arrival of SunRail and is work-ing with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to place suit-able markers designating this stop as the Historic Pine Castle Station, upon completion of construction. FDOT District 5 Secretary Noranne Downs touched on the safety and connec-tivity of the final SunRail route. Af-ter the program, guests boarded and toured the SunRail train.

During the preview, engineers and train representatives answered questions and shared the benefits of riding SunRail. Food trucks, local vendors, kid-friendly activities and other community agencies were also

part of the community celebration. The Sand Lake Road station is de-signed to connect with future rail options to Orlando International Airport to the east, and the Orange County Convention Center and In-ternational Drive tourism district to the west. This station also serves the residents of nearby Belle Isle, Edge-wood and Taft. Station designs in-clude a park and ride lot as well as bus and passenger drop-off areas.

“Judging by Sunday’s turnout, there seems to be a lot of interest in Sun-Rail and we hope that the people who visited will become passen-gers and customers,” Commissioner Clarke said. “SunRail will change the way we live as it will stimulate eco-nomic growth and development.”

The entire 61-mile system from DeLand to Poinciana will be built in two phases and comprised of 17 sta-tions when complete. Phase I from DeBary to the Sand Lake Road Sta-tion will be fully operational on May 1. Mayor Jacobs joins the ribbon cut-ting ceremony of the Central Flori-da International Trade Office at the National Entrepreneur Center.

Orange County, FL – Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and represen-tatives from JPMorgan Chase & Co. celebrated the grand opening of the Central Florida International Trade Office (CFITO) at the National Entre-preneur Center on Friday morning.

“The creation of CFITO will enable Orange County companies to tap into key trading markets and ex-pand their export opportunities,” said Mayor Jacobs. “We’re also im-proving efficiency and streamlining the process for foreign investors to help them connect with local part-ners to establish local operations.”

CFITO is a regional hub for foreign entrepreneurs and international companies interested in doing busi-ness in Central Florida. The CFITO office is now open at the Nation-al Entrepreneur Center at Orlan-do Fashion Square and serves as a central location for connecting the global trading community to local companies.

CFITO also supports small business-es looking to export goods and ser-vices through international part-nerships and resources. This one-year pilot program was made possible by a $65,000 con-tribution from Orange County and a dollar-per-dollar matching grant from JP Morgan Chase.

“Central Florida is already a global leader in tourism,” said Jerry Ross, Executive Director of the NEC. “As we develop a greater awareness of our region’s business opportunities, Orange County is positioning our region as the ideal hub for interna-tional trade in the Americas.”

CFITO will improve the efficiency of routing and directing inquiries by potential international trading part-ners, while leveraging our region’s existing network of support orga-nizations to assist local businesses who want to explore international trade opportunities.

As of August 2013, Florida’s total merchandise trade exceeded $105 billion, with $3.9 billion originating from the Orlando–Kissimmee–San-ford region.

“Jesus Christ Superstar,” the global phenom-enon that has wowed audiences for over 40 years, is reimagined for the 21st century as an arena-rock spectacular.

The biggest ever North American arena tour of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ground-breaking rock musical is coming to Orlando at the Amway Center on Saturday, June 14 with an extraordinary cast of rock, pop and R&B superstars. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 11 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.com, by calling 800.745.3000 and at the Amway Center box office. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public be-ginning Friday, April 4 at 10 a.m. Tickets range from $34.50 to $149.50 with a limited number of Gold Circle seats and VIP Experience pack-ages available. Additional ticket fees may ap-ply. Brandon Boyd, Grammy® nominated lead vo-calist of rock band Incubus, is confirmed for the role of ‘Judas Iscariot’, Grammy® nomi-nated *NSYNC vocalist, JC Chasez, will play ‘Pontius Pilate’, Grammy® Award winner and member of Destiny’s Child, Michelle Williams, will take the female lead as ‘Mary Magdalene’, English singer-songwriter and lead singer in Public Image Ltd. (PiL) and Sex Pistols, John Rotten Lydon, will play ‘King Herod’ and in-troducing British actor and singer, Ben For-ster, who won England’s “ITV Superstar” com-petition in 2012 and played the lead role in the UK and Australian arena tours of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” will revive his role as ‘Jesus.’ With over 50 cast and musicians on stage this is one arena show that can’t be missed! The North American leg comes on the heels of the wildly successful UK and Australian are-na tours, which began in the UK in Septem-ber 2012 and commenced in Australia in May

2013. The Times said, “The show gets the right balance between the spectacular, the jokey and the sin-cere. The performances from the well-choreo-graphed supporting cast are fine throughout. Honestly, it’s enough to give rock opera a good name.” The Evening Chronicle exclaimed, “the extravagance of the production, a flamboyant spectacle of acrobatics, dramatic flames and provocative pole dancing,” and Liverpool Dai-ly Post claimed, “Restored to its rock roots, the star-studded second coming of Jesus Christ Su-perstar is big, brash and bold…” and the Man-chester Evening News stated, “from the very opening strains the pounding music, the huge and sophisticated video backdrops and pulsat-ing energy from a talented ensemble cast make this a true spectacle.” “In 1971 Andrew and I were thrilled by the first-ever Jesus Christ Superstar tour of the United States,” said Tim Rice. “We certain-ly did not imagine then that 43 years later we would be witnessing another America-wide tour of our first big hit show. We are delighted and grateful that enthusiasm for Superstar has been maintained over the years and this new production presents the work in its most pow-erful format - as a true rock experience.” “Jesus Christ Superstar began life as a rock al-bum...probably because nobody believed back in 1969 that you could present a stage musical about the last days of the life of Jesus Christ.

I shall never forget its first live performance in the Civic Arena, Pittsburgh on July 12th 1971. Of course JCS subsequently became a legit theatre stalwart, but I, personally, have always hankered after seeing it again in the arenas where it started," said Andrew Lloyd Webber. “I’m excited to be involved with Jesus Christ Superstar,” said Michael Cohl. “The show has evolved greatly over the past 40 years

Page 57: Aboutus by hotspotorlando # 32
Page 58: Aboutus by hotspotorlando # 32

and it is exhilarating to be a part of a proj-ect that marries this incredible property and its extraordinary music with the new, innovative technology that has become available for live shows. This arena rock spectacular is a whole new experience for fans.” "I am so thrilled to be a part of this amazing production!” said Brandon Boyd. “I grew up on Andrew Lloyd Webber's classics and never imagined I would be playing a role in one, let alone with such an incredibly diverse cast of players. Truly an honor!" "When I heard Jesus Christ Superstar was coming to the States, I was excited at the idea to be a part of telling one of the most influential stories in history through the scope of such a talented composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber,” said JC Chasez. “I’m excit-ed to work with such a dynamic cast, and to bring Jesus Christ Superstar back to its roots as a rock arena experience." “I am so excited to be part of such a leg-endary production alongside an amazing cast!, said Michelle Williams. “I am truly looking forward to this experience!” “I'm here to sing with the King of the Jews, who could ask for anything more?” said John Rotten Lydon. “I feel so excited to bring this produc-tion to North America,” said Ben Forster. “America has to experience this rock are-na spectacular as Andrew Lloyd Webber envisaged it. I am the real life Billy Elliot, from a coal mining city in the north of En-gland to touring huge arenas across North

America! You are about to witness my dream come true!” The Jesus Christ Superstar Arena Spectac-ular North American Tour is presented by S2BN Entertainment and The Really Use-ful Group. TICKETS: $34.50 to $149.50. Buy tickets at amwaycenter.com, Chase Box Office at Amway Center, Ticketmaster retail loca-tions, charge-by-phone at 800.745.3000 or at Ticketmaster.com. Orlando Philharmonic’s Stages Verdi’s La Traviata

On May 9 & 11, the Orlando Phil-harmonic Orchestra will pro-duce Verdi’s romantic opera, La Traviata, at Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre (401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando). Performances will be Friday, May 9 at 8 p.m. and Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20-$82, available at 407-770-0071 or visit OrlandoPhil.org. Set in the ornate salons of 19th century Paris, La Traviata (“The Fallen Woman”) tells the story of Violetta, a famed courtesan who enjoys her carefree life, but longs for passion. She falls deeply in love with a young respectable nobleman, but their affair is cut short by his family’s disapproval and her frail health. Most will recognize the plot of La Traviata from its adaptation for Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 Austra-lian-American jukebox musical Moulin Rouge! and J. F. Lawton’s classic 1990 movie Pretty Wom-an, starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, also based on Al-exandre Dumas’ 1848 novel The Lady of the Camellias.

Conducted by Orlando Philharmonic Music Director Christopher Wilkins and staged by Frank McClain, the orchestra’s production will star Cuban American soprano Elizabeth Caballero as Violetta. Caballero has been hailed as one of the leading sopranos on the scene today. Her recent performances of Violetta received raves including

The Daily Page declaring, “With a love-ly voice, she has a compelling sense of drama. As she puts the role through its paces, she creates a Violetta of passion and vulnerability, able to move from a conflicted sense of herself, through cru-el sacrifices, to profound commitments. Even before her death scene, this Violet-ta is really heart-wrenching. Tenor Brian Jagde, a force in his own right, will perform the role of Alfredo, while the imposing baritone Stephen Powell takes the role of Alfredo’s father, Giorgio. Other cast members include Sa-mantha Barnes Daniel (“Flora”), Gabri-el Preisser (“Baron Douphol”), Andrew Gray (“Marchese d’Obigny”), Thomas Potter (“Dottore Grenvil”) and María Laetitia (“Annina”). View full bios online at OrlandoPhil.org. “Verdi's score contains some of the most beautiful music ever written. Its soaring tunes reveal every nuance of the passion Violetta and Alfredo feel for one anoth-er,” said Christopher Wilkins. “The fa-mous falling melody that recurs many times throughout the opera represents Violetta herself, both her loving nature

and her despair at the thought of losing all that she loves. I know this is going to be an opera that everyone will enjoy.”The Philharmonic’s production will be fully staged with sets and costumes and the orchestra positioned on stage as part of the production. The opera will be sung in Italian, with English translations pro-jected above the stage.***Now in its 21st season, the Orlando Phil-harmonic is Central Florida’s resident professional orchestra, comprised of tal-ented musicians recruited from around the world. The Philharmonic inspires audiences with over 125 musical expe-riences annually, ranging from classical and chamber music concerts to pops performances, staged opera produc-tions, outdoor concerts and education programs for all ages.

The orchestra has produced opera since the Orlando Opera closed its doors in 2009. Committed to building a sustainable future for classical music, the Philharmonic cur-rently has a budget of $3.6 mil-lion, holds an endowment of $4 million, and has maintained a balanced budget every year of its existence. On Saturday, April 12, the Orlando Phil-harmonic Orchestra will perform Peter & The Wolf and other Musical Stories, a FREE outdoor family concert in Loch Ha-ven Park (Princeton Ave and 17-92, Orlan-do), sponsored by Dr. Phillips Charities, in memory of Della Phillips. The event will include food trucks and an instrument pet-ting zoo beginning at 4:30 p.m., pre-con-cert entertainment by Mr. Richard & The Pound Hounds at 4:30 p.m., and a 6 p.m. concert of animal-themed music by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, with a special actor/narrator from Orlando Rep-ertory Theatre. For more information, call 407.770.0071 or visit OrlandoPhil.org

Conducted by Paul Hostetter, the concert will feature a combination of classical and contemporary storytelling music, includ-ing works by Felix Mendelssohn, Aar-on Copland, Maurice Ravel, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov as well as contemporary composers Andrew Lloyd Webber and El-ton John. After a brief intermission, the orchestra will perform the children’s clas-sic Peter and the Wolf, complete with nar-ration and opportunities for audience par-ticipation.

The orchestra last performed in Loch Ha-ven Park in 2012 for their Star Spangled Birthday concert, an event that attracted over 1500 audience members.

The concert is funded by Dr. Phillips Char-ities, with additional sponsorship from Florida Hospital Government and Health Policy, and The Christ School. The con-

cert will be performed in honor of Della Phillips, the wife of early citrus pioneer, Dr. Philip Phillips, once the largest pro-ducer of citrus in the world. Mrs. Phillips was known for her love of classical music, especially works by Mendelssohn, and for hosting outdoor concerts on the lawn of the Phillips family home on Lake Lucerne in downtown Orlando. Mrs. Phillips’ inter-est in music stemmed from early training in piano and music theory while attending private schools in New Orleans and Mobile.“Della Phillips shared her love of classical music with family and friends by hosting performances of many world class musi-cians on the lawn of the Phillips family home,” said Ken Robinson, President of Dr. Phillips Charities.

“Dr. Phillips Charities is pleased to renew this tradition in her honor with sponsor-ship of the Peter & The Wolf and Other Mu-sical Stories. We hope this family-friendly event will introduce classical music to a whole new audience in the Central Florida community and not only entertain, but in-tellectually stimulate, children and adults alike.”

The Peter & The Wolf and Other Musical Stories is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnics and seating. Leashed pets are permitted in the park. In the case of rain, call the Orlando Philharmonic Box Office to confirm the concert will take place as scheduled. The Art Of Activewear: Koral Reimagines Fitness With Its First Stunningly Versatile Spring/Summer CollectionActivewear gets upgraded to modern, sexy with a sophisticated new trend - workout to street.

Uptown sophisticate meets downtown edge: Koral introduces the fine art of activewear with their first modern collection, debuting this month. Reimagining the way fashion meets fitness, Koral creates

luxurious pieces that seamlessly transition from workout to street.

From Brazilian born fashion phe-nom Ilana Kugel and Los Angeles fashion veteran Peter Koral, comes Koral Activewear, a high-tech, com-fort-chic collection that effortlessly takes women through spin class to farmer's market then sipping at the cafe.

Versatility, elegance, and figure flattering fabrics are top priority for Ilana Kugel, who combines her na-tive Brazilian flavor with L.A. sen-sibility. Growing up on the spirited beaches and diverse streets of Rio de Janeiro, Kugel was inspired by the sensuous, organic shapes and urban compositions surrounding her. After studying design, swim-wear was the natural progression to befit her tropical roots and new daily life on the beaches of South-ern California.

An expert in design and construc-tion, Kugel's understanding of how to enhance the feminine shape is embedded in the DNA of her sexy, edgy line of mix-and-match active-wear and loungewear. With jump-suit sightings adorning the spring runway, she is first to evolve the on-trend one-piece into a slimming high performance jumpsuit.

The 2014 Spring/Summer Ac-tivewear Collection presents an abundance of shine with Koral's standout pieces: the sexy, coveted jumpsuit in brushed elastane and Infinity leggings and shorts in high

fashion sheen. Other highlights include sports bras, tanks, and cropped pants that usher in the sun with eye-popping colors and mesh overlays.

From Koral's Loungewear Collec-tion, fresh proportioned crop tops, tanks, and lounge pants in light-weight French Terries and cotton slubs ooze comfort and ease, while two-way jackets and vests are set to be popular for any destination when paired with coordinating ac-tivewear.

This spring, Koral also introduces Infinity, a new revolutionary fabric that is notably comfortable, soft to the touch and durable, retain-ing its shape and resisting chlorine ten times more than conventional fabrics. Another new textile is Eva-nesce by Koral, a moisture manag-ing, body-smoothing compression fiber built to wick away perspira-tion and inhibit unpleasant odors.

Crafted in Los Angles with the high-est quality standards, Koral Active-wear is available now with finer retailers, including ShopBop.com, Carbon38.com, Nordstrom.com, Equinox, and boutiques across the U.S. Prices range from $58.00 for a basic top to $244.00 for a zip front jacket.

Orlando Magic Launches Google Glass Technology In-Game to Enhance Fan Experience

Magic remains focused on customer experience and technology

To further engage and enhance the fan experience, the Orlando Magic is unveiling Google Glass tech-nology for the Magic’s matchup with the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, April 9. The Google Glass in-game experience, in partnership with the soft-ware platform CrowdOptic, will capture new and unique perspectives of the in-game experience in real time and instantly share these views for all fans to see through Magic Vision, the tallest high-definition video board in an NBA venue.

Magic fans will experience the game through the eyes of a variety of Magic talent and in-game performers. In fu-ture games, fans throughout the night will be surprised with random one-of-a-kind Orlando Magic experiences and their reactions to winning these prizes will be captured for the entire arena to see. “The Magic is always looking for new ways to engage and enhance the fan ex-perience,” said Magic CEO Alex Mar-tins. “Google Glass and CrowdOptic provide a unique and organic opportu-nity for fans to see a different viewpoint of the game. We are excited to test this technology with some of the savviest fans in the league.”

The experience will be powered by Crow-dOptic, a software platform which ana-lyzes the real-time Google Glass feeds and curates them by their subject mat-

ter and quality, exporting only the highest quality live footage to the scoreboard. CrowdOptic’s abil-ity to analyze where mobile and wearable devices are aimed allows future opportunities, such as op-timizing in-seat arena services or providing fans the option to control their own broadcast. The Magic and Amway Center have been recog-nized for their efforts in the areas of technology and customer service receiving TheStadiumBusi-ness Awards’ 2013 Customer Experience Award and being named the 2012 Sports Facility of the Year by the SportsBusiness Journal.

Page 75: Aboutus by hotspotorlando # 32

"The Orlando Magic is on the forefront of tech-nology adoption for fan enhancement,” said CrowdOptic CEO Jon Fisher. “CrowdOptic is pleased to bring Google Glass to the Magic to further enhance their in-arena experience."

With the Magic’s home, Amway Center, being largely focused on technology and the custom-er-experience, Google Glass provides another av-enue to continue growing this area for the team. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certified Amway Center fea-tures a sustainable, environmentally-friendly de-sign and unmatched technology, featuring 1,100 digital monitors, the tallest high-definition video

board in an NBA venue and multiple premium amenities available to all patrons in the building. Magic Vision is a Daktronics center-hung score-board which includes four primary high defini-tion LED video displays with 840 lines of reso-lution, eight auxiliary video/scoring/statistics displays and two LED ring displays.

The venue is the first in the world to utilize high resolution 6 mm surface mount LED pixel tech-nology on all of the center-hung digital displays. More than 9 million individual LEDs are used in the 18 displays incorporated into the cen-ter-hung scoreboard. Overall dimensions of the center-hung scoreboard are 42 feet by 41 feet by 41 feet (HxWxD), making it the tallest and most capable of any in NBA venues.

World First Solo Show For Kim Keever 'Underwater' Abstracts Opens At Waterhouse & Dodd, New York

Startling and beauti-ful photographic im-ages, generated by releasing and explod-ing paint pigment in a 200 gallon water tank, are to feature in a one-man show at the pres-tigious Waterhouse & Dodd's Upper East Side gallery in Man-hattan from 2(nd) April to 6(th) May.

Created by leading New York artist Kim Keever, the 'Kim Keev-er: Abstracts' exhi-bition represents a world first showcase for the latest series of photographs created by the artist in his New York studio.

Keever, whose works are represented in many of the major museums and col-lections around the United States, has de-veloped a unique pro-cess through which he creates photographs that capture the ex-plosions of color and form resulting from the release of paint pigments into his huge studio water tank.

“I’ve always lived near the water, wheth-er it was the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Chi-cago or New York City. There’s a peaceful at-traction to the flat rip-pling surface and the mysteries below.

Once I started taking photographs of con-structed landscapes submerged in water in a 200-gallon aquar-ium, I realized I had found my signature work as an artist,” he said.

Keever recently dis-pensed with the land-scape elements al-together and started working only with col-ored paint pigment dropped into the wa-ter and photograph-ing the event. “It is a very freeing process. I can explore color and form like never before, albeit through random events since I have very little control once the paint starts moving. Aside from the continued use of water in a tank sur-rounded by lights,

Page 86: Aboutus by hotspotorlando # 32

"Existing col-lectors and new converts alike will find this show compelling view-ing; Keever's work is unique.

His earlier land-scapes are at first glance red-olent of the Hud-son River School and are more structured, while the new abstract images, with the paint dispersing through the water more randomly, are more color-ful and modern," said Ray Water-house, principal of Waterhouse & Dodd. "And they are so afford-able, starting at around $3,000."

Keever, who originally stud-ied thermal en-gineering and worked with NASA, combines his knowledge of science with his artwork, allow-ing him to under-stand better the properties of the materials he is

working with.

His work is held by the Metropol-itan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Mod-ern Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn;

Hirshhorn Mu-seum, Washing-ton, DC; Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, Virginia and oth-ers. He current-ly lives and works in New York City.

d BURSTING WITH LIFEThe Photography of Gabriel WickboldBy Coralie Claeysen-Gleyzon, Curator of Jai Gallery

Gabriel Wickbold’s art is funda-mentally Brazilian. It talks of the passion, colors, sensuality and flamboyance associated with Brazil and its genuine people.

I first discovered Wickbold’s work while researching interna-tional photographers for a local exhibition, and I was immediate-ly taken with the young Brazil-ian’s vibrant images, bursting with life and energy.

In Sexual Colors, his naked models are drenched in paint. This has been a 5 year-long project in which Wickbold looks at how the body can become a canvas or even more: a base, a platform, a space for an instal-lation.

Wickbold pours or throws paint at his models, but he also paints on them with brushes and his fingers to create interesting vi-sual variations. The colors are bold. The project daring.

“The explosions of paint echo explosions of sexual-ity” he says. The mere fact

that he often uses his fingers to paint on the naked faces and bodies only adds to the inherent sensuality of the images.

Sexual Colors reached world-wide recognition in 2010 and has not stopped gaining valu-able coverage since.

Wickbold is a self-taught photog-rapher and he believes this ex-plains why there are no bounds to his creativity. He is free to let his imagination run wild. And wild it is! Wickbold’s latest work entitled Sans Tache [meaning “unstained” in French] encap-sulates living crickets and flies in framed artworks; a process in which the bugs end up eat-ing away precious photograph-ic prints representing bodies floating in the air.

This method of deterioration of the artwork is both controlled and uncontrollable.

Page 94: Aboutus by hotspotorlando # 32

By enclosing the bugs in the frame, Wickbold willingly acknowledges and encourages an accelerated decay of the work; however he cannot control its evolution and the way the print is affected by the process. The result is beyond two-dimensional photographic work: it is a living installation and a performance, evolving on a dai-ly basis, which may result eventu-ally in an empty frame.

The theme is that of life itself: for-ever evolving, disintegrating, and changing into something new.

Wickbold is an artist who throws himself into his creative impulses and embraces them entirely. The work is compelling and intense. It is not for the faint-hearted.

In May this year Wickbold’s large-scale work (pieces sized at 110cm x160 cm) will be exhibited in an important show traveling from Rio, Sao Paulo to Porto Alegre.

DOMINIQUE LECOMTE

Europe Art Editor

Page 102: Aboutus by hotspotorlando # 32

Dominique Lecomte an artist who occupies the chair 153 Mondia Academy of Art .

I found Dominique Lecomte between sever-al intelligent comments and art in Facebook conversations. After awhile we decided to become friends and in my travels I've always had a good friend to talk . The deepness of his works of art and surprising beauty, as if not enough the docility and intelligence in the deepest conversations.

Dominique is a French native who adopted Brazil as his land many years ago. He lives in a city known by few in the state of São Paulo, the City of Catanduva, that I had the opportu-nity to know in the 90s .

Last February, I had the pleasure to read in a publication that he was invited to honor his art with a specific chair at the Mondial Acad-emy of Art. I strongly believe that the recog-nition of an artist at this level in life is one of the greatest honors an artist can receive, after all performing in repeated expositions sever-al times around the world is an achievement, but are events that enrich the curriculum and experience of the artist, although, receive the honor of an Academy of Arts in the center of the art world is a historical fact that makes the work of an artist to be celebrated forever .

When did painting has invade your life?Art has always been part of my life ... at first as a joke , as occupational therapy for punish-ment ... then became an escape from my real-ity, puberty and adolescence (think, to some extent, still is). In a row, appeared as a mode of expression to become a life goal .I started painting oil at age 20, when I got my box of oil paints and started my career when

arriving in Brazil at age 23.

What did you learn with painting?Art taught me how to live and be in a psycho-logically complicated and illogical society ... taught me to develop my own philosophy of life so I could balance my emotions and feel-ings in an aggressive social context, allowing me to handle better(?), to relate with others lack of comprehention, which always has dis-turbed me, still does, causing a feeling of be-ing marginalized. The art was and is a faithful companion throughout my emotional, psy-chological, philosophical and " parasexual" relationship ... not only financial, but nothing is perfect ... lol )

What is the philosophy of your work?Could simply say that the philosophy of my work is the philosophy of my life... But I think it is more representative of the con-sequences of my philosophy of life ...Late-ly, much of my work is based in the uncon-scious, the observation of my work and the reactions it causes, say that it is “ Existen-tialism “ in question” or “as a question”...

How did this journey come about? My life journey as an artist was totally by leaps and bounds ... The only goal we had was to all artists ( I suppose), which was to be recognized as such, to have the feeling that “ did not talk to the walls “ when I ex-pressed picturalmente ... and , of course , to be able to live worthily of my art. But the path to that is tortuous and very meaty . The life of an artist is not easy, requiring many sacrifices and perseverance, stubbornness not to say ...

Page 103: Aboutus by hotspotorlando # 32

What are the most memorable moments of recognition?

For me to be invited to occupy a chair in a Mondial Academy of Arts is a great achievement, the achievement of a vocational goal.Receiving an invitation that was made by a serious entity, directed by highly skilled people is a recognition of my value for my work and not by dubious views that has nothing to do with Fine Arts ..... makes me feel that all the sacrifices have been worth it, I did not live my ideal wonder .... it is the greatest of all the awards .

How is to be an artist who acts in the world?

Now, what it means in my art? Tak-ing great pleasure to work, to contin-ue, will not change anything .... I was invited by my work the way it is, and so there is no reason to modify it ..... Just continue as before, always try to do better, without regard to produc-tivity .... to honor the invitation re-ceived in respect from Mondial Art Academy and my own art .

Fifty years of life dedicated to Fine Arts between Sao Pau-lo, Bahia and Rio de Janeiro, a brilliant artistic career, na-tionally recognized with in-ternational reputationboth as an artist and as an art critic writing for newspapers and magazines.

Originally from a small fam-ily, as a child he begin to study art with the renowned sculptor Teixeira Machado. Its dense and multifaceted work is grounded in remark-able sculptures and paint-ings that passed by schools of expressionism, figurative, abstraction without commit-ting to any artistic expression in a timely manner.

With preference for the blue, white and gold, many and varied colors are inspirational themes for Gilberto Gomes, ranging from historical mo-ments and landscapes and

exciting portraits of person-alities that marked the histo-ry of Brazil and of humanity .

When Jorge Amado met his work, commented: " It seemed to be facing a paint-er sensitivity and craft. His paintings demonstrate the quality of a serious artist, who has his own expression."

Artist Carlos Bastos, from Salvador-Bahia-Brazil,also wrote in 1978 : " [ ... ]young artist, between Cachoeira and São Félix hints through his paintings something of the old and baroque cities ; its tropical exuberance fro-zen in time " ...

Gilberto Gomes is also a mu-sician. In the 1970s, he served as bassist in various bands. Played with Fauze Andare, winner of one of the editions of the MPB Fes-tival in Piracica-ba - SP and Pou-so Alegre - MG, besides play-ing with the big names on MPB,

from his time. Today de key-boards in his spare time, en-joying music a talent that was also born in him .

With a diameter of 49.50 mm, this new model is fitted with a manually wound L506 calibre and shows the hours and minutes, as well as having a small seconds at 6 o'clock.

Its white dial features a railway track min-ute-ring, large painted black Arabic numer-als and a second min-ute-ring with red nu-merals.

Pink Breguet hands complete the harmo-ny of the dial while the sides and the bow are finely worked in imi-tation of the original model. The back cov-er is decorated with a stamped out horse mo-tif and opens to reveal a solid case back.

The Longines Heritage 1935 is based on a time-piece originally created for aviators but which went on to prove highly popular among the general public.

Its cushion-shaped steel case has a diameter of 42 mm and houses the auto-matic calibre L615.

The matt black dial dis-plays white Arabic numer-als with Super-LumiNova® as well as a small second and the date at 6 o’clock. The watch is fitted with a black alligator strap.

This year, Longines cele-brates the 60th anniver-sary of the filing of the patent for its "Conquest" brand.

To mark this occasion, the Swiss watch company is launching its Conquest Heritage 1954-2014. With a diameter of 35 mm, this model in rose gold dis-plays a sunray silver dial with pink applied indices. Fitted with the mechan-ical calibre L633, it indi-cates the hours, the min-utes and the seconds.

The caseback is screwed down and decorated with a gold and enamel medal-lion representing a con-stellation. This timepiece is numbered and limited to 60 pieces.

The Longines Col-umn-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph mod-els take their inspiration from the first chronograph wristwatches developed by Longines in 1913.

This steel model is fitted with the L788 calibre, a column-wheel single push-piece chronograph move-ment developed by ETA exclusively for Longines. With its 40 mm diameter, its case is fitted with mov-ing lugs.

The white dial features black Roman numerals and a red "XII", a small seconds at 9 o'clock and a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock. The date aperture is situated at 6 o'clock. Blued hands harmonious-ly complete this timepiece, which comes with a brown alligator strap.

Twenty one years ago a relentless romantic passion for the American Way inspired the formation of Confederate Motorcycles in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The first nine months of existence were en-tirely conceptual. It was determined that the effort would be design driven and product focused. The creative approach would be organic. Our products would be the most exclusive, small-batch handcrafted thor-oughbred motorcycles ever produced. The singularity of line memorialized by Oscar Wilde’s commentary concerning effective industrial design would inform joinder of the power, strength and beauty line in the form of American drag race industrial de-sign architecture, which was benchmarked as our core competency.

Our cultural cornerstone would be non-ma-terialism. Our executive approach would emphasize principled individualism. Our goal would be to nurture diverse actualized creativity. The effort relocated to San Francisco in 1992. A fruitful collaboration with San-dy Kosman and Martin Windmill began. Sandy and Martin were, without question, America’s leading motorcycle drag racing chassis design specialists.

For a glorious 18 months we lived in a blue sky bubble, dreaming up the beginning of something immortal, the finest American road bike, without any compromises, ex-

cept the limitations of resources to which we were availed. We fantasized about a massive forged one piece centered crank-shaft located in a unitized power train case with our own proprietary mounting speci-fications. Unfortunately our resources did not allow for such a solution. So, as neces-sity is the father of invention, we invented a non-unitized yet fully loaded cradled pow-er train mounting system by re-bundling and reconfiguring substantive proven high performance components, which we were resourced to procure. The result was a mas-terwork.

We resolved to use the toughest up-side-down, turned-around, vertical mount transmission located at the swing arm piv-ot by a dual threaded axle mounting a billet inner primary tied to a middle motor-trans-mission lap mount at the center strut of the cradle additionally supported by large di-ameter outrigger bearings mounting the output shaft to the swing arm pivot point.

A big-boned three inch hard steel backbone, two-inch down tube and 1 ¼ inch cradle additionally supported precise neck/swing arm perpendicularity. This first generation chassis-architecture is the ideal paterfamil-ias upon which our second and third gen-erations owe their deep within the oily bits thoroughbred design DNA. I was awarded Engineering Patent Patent #5857538.pdf for the superior torsion and bend rigidity of this body of work.
