Working together, naturally

Both SLT and ABiC™ work to control IOP by a process of restoration of the natural outflow pathways. This is in contrast to traditional glaucoma treatments and surgeries, which attempt to mechanically change or bypass the pathway of aqueous outflow.

It’s a significant step forward from the choice between ‘just enough’ eye drops or invasive trabeculectomy or tube shunt procedures.

Historically, surgeons had to rely on medical therapy at one end of the treatment spectrum, through to invasive, bleb-dependent procedures — including trabeculectomy and tube shunts — at the other.

ABiC™ (Ab interno Canaloplasty) performed with the iTrack™ surgical system flushes out the natural outflow channels, without damaging tissue and without leaving behind a stent or shunt. Not only does ABiC™ offer the safety-first premise of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, but it can eliminate or defer the need for medications and thereby greatly enhance patient quality of life.

SLT (Selective Laser trabeculoplasty) stimulates a process of cellular regeneration to create a healthier, more porous trabecular meshwork structure, and offers a highly effective first- line therapy free of the side effects and compliance issues associated with medications. It is also a tissue-sparing intervention that preserves the ability to perform angle-based surgery in the future.

Canaloplasty performed with the iTrack™ surgical system is ideally suited to patients with later stage glaucoma and is a proven and effective solution that targets the natural outflow pathway to restore outflow.

Evaluate pathologyNot only does SLT offer a highly effective treatment option for glaucoma, but it can also be employed to help estimate the location of the pathology. If intervention with SLT is successful, the primary obstruction region may lie within the trabecular meshwork, but if it is ineffective, then the primary obstruction may reside distal to the trabecular meshwork.

Treat Glaucoma – naturallySLT works by applying selective photothermolysis of the pigmented trabecular meshwork cells. This intervention stimulates the release of proteins and cytokines and the recruitment of macrophages to improve the circulation of aqueous humor through the meshwork and the inner wall of Schlemm’s canal — all without causing thermal or coagulative damage.

Unlike medications which can compromise the effectiveness of future interventions, SLT pairs seamlessly with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, including ABiC™, as both a preoperative diagnostic aid or as a postoperative adjunct, and can be deployed synergistically to reduce the need for further medication or future filtration surgery. Further, SLT can help to maintain flow through the trabecular meshwork and the natural outflow system, effectively priming the area for MIGS.

Ab-interno canaloplasty — ABiC™ — is a comprehensive minimally invasive glaucoma surgery that flushes out the natural outflow channels without damaging tissue, and without leaving behind a stent or shunt. Unlike stent-based MIGS procedures, where only a segment of Schlemm’s canal is addressed, or where the trabecular meshwork is targeted in isolation, ABiC™ with iTrack™ addresses all aspects of the outflow pathway, eliminating the risk that the blockage area will be missed or sub-optimally treated.

Choose iTrack™ to perform ABiC™ and you’ll be able to re-establish the eye’s natural outflow drainage system to achieve an average 30% reduction in mean IOP and an average 50% reduction in medication burden1.

For patients with later stage glaucoma disease, Canaloplasty, performed with the iTrack™ surgical system is a proven and effective solution that means patients avoid the risks and discomfort associated with trabeculectomy. By addressing all possible resistance sites, including potentially occluded collector channels, Canaloplasty delivers post-operative pressures in the range of 12-14 mmHg, similar to that achieved with trabeculectomy — but with fewer complications and an improved safety profile 2,3.

Because there’s no filtering bleb, Canaloplasty also offers a simplified postoperative course, with patients able to resume their day-to-day activities directly following treatment.
