Spittal is a perfect place for students of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Both remarkable buildings: the Renaissance palace Schloss Porcia and the Spittl (where the FH is located) truly inspire the future architects and civil engineers.The town with a population of 16,000, also known for its comedy theatre, offers a great mix of living tradition and modern leisure activities: skiing, cross-county skiing, and ski mountaineering in the winter; cycling along the many paths along the river Drau or near the lake Millstatt are just a few of the many possibilities.

Our FH Site in Villach is situated in a technology park and is a place where students of the School of Geoinformation, School of Management as well as the School of Systems Engineering meet the challenges of their future profession.The city of Villach with 59,000 inhabitants is located in the heart of the Alpine-Adria region, only 20 minutes ride form the border to Italy. The surroundings offer plenty of possi-bilities for sports and other leisure time activities. Prospering hi-tech industries are the perfect environment for the future engineers. Future manag-��sector or tourism. Modern, dynamic, attractive and full of vitality Villach is often called the cultural capital of Carinthia. The largest traditional customs festival in southern Austria - the “Kirchtag” takes place in August. Villach is also famous from the carnival celebrations and is often called the Austrian capital of carnival.

The School of Medical Information Technology and also the School of Telematics and Network Engineer-ing are situated in Klagenfurt. With a population of over 90,000 including more than 8,000 students, Klagenfurt is the most southern provincial capital in Austria and the business, administration and transportation centre of Carinthia.Future engineers, economy and research meet among others in the Lakeside Science & Technology Park. The main aim of the park is to establish Klagenfurt as a high-tech-site. The mild, southern-like climate coupled with the beautiful city centre, the friendly residents and the culinary delights as well as student pubs give this �� enjoy their free time at the warmest alpine lake in Europe – Lake Wörthersee; or they just relax at a Cafe in the historic old city.

The town of Feldkirchen in Carinthia with a hospital and home for senior citizens of Diakonie Kärnten "�� #�� the adolescence and health care systems. With its 14,000 inhabitants the town is ideally located in Carinthia’s central region. The School of Health and Care as well as the School of Social Work are situated Here in the two buildings next to the main city hall. Feldkirchen is the perfect starting point for those students who want to discover the province. The most popular sport activities are hiking and swimming. EUROPEAN CREDIT TRANSFER SYSTEM

Higher education in Austria is provided by universities, ‘Fachhochschulen’ [universities of applied sciences] universities of the arts, and ‘Pädagogische Hochschulen’ [teacher training colleges].{��{��Bachelor program which lasts for 6 semesters (3 years).Access to the second university level is based on a completed Bachelor program. Master programs last from 2 to 4 semesters. Doctoral studies or PhD – the third stage generally require a minimum of four semesters. Access is based on a completed diploma or master program. The European Credit Transfer System was introduced in 1989 within the framework of the Erasmus/Socrates �� {�� transfer of a student’s study and work credits as well as other scholastic accreditations between European partner educational institutions. ECTS credits describe the workload required to complete the course. Every course is assigned ECTS points, and one semester is based on a total of 30 ECTS points. HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM IN AUSTRIA

AUSTRIAN GRADING SYSTEM

The �� is issued by the International �� G�� ^�� CUAS.In most cases, you need this document to get the Erasmus scholarship. You can pick it up only 2 weeks before you ��[�� exact arrival and departure dates, so that the document can be prepared for you in advance.

The �� contains a standardized description of type, level, context and status of the successfully completed degree program. The ‘Diploma Supplement’ gives a clear overview of the academic and �� X�� "�� #�

DOCUMENTS FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS

If you are Erasmus, Joint-Study or Freemover student, you will have to deal with the following documents which are necessary for student exchange programs.

The �� contains a list of the courses to be completed and is agreed by the student and the responsible institutions. If credits are to be transferred, the Learning Agreement must be approved by the student and both institutions in question and any changes must be updated within one month of the student starting their studies abroad. Please make sure you have all the signa-tures on your ‘Learning agreement’.

The�� is a document showing all the achievements of the student and lists completed courses, the acquired ECTS points as well as the ECTS grade equivalents. The Transcript of Records is issued to the student by their home institution before leaving and by their guest institution at the end of their stay. Generally your ‘Transcript of records’ will be sent to �� month after the end of your stay.

BUDDY SYSTEM

The Austrian National Union of Students [ÖH] is based on a federal law - the ‘HochschülerInnenschaftsgesetz’ [HSG]. It is the only recognized representation of all students at Austrian universities, universities of applied sciences and teacher training academies. The ‘ÖH’ is �� and provides students with political and academic representation, information, service, and advice on 4 levels: The federal level, the university level, the faculty level, and the study program level. Most of the degree programs at CUAS are taught in German. The knowledge of German is one of the prereq-uisites for admission to these degree programs for regular students. A German beginner’s course is offered by Carinthia University of Applied Sciences for incoming students during the entire fall semester. If you wish to take part in �� A detailed course program with indications of times and rooms will be sent to all incoming students in advance.Incomings students in the spring semester should have ��\� �� ]�� follow the lectures.

AUSTRIAN NATIONAL UNION OF STUDENTS

Each of the four FH sites has its own library. You can choose from a large pool of books, journals, CD-ROMs as well as online material for learning and references. The library is equipped with workplaces in reading rooms.The ‘CUAS student identity card’ allows the holder to borrow shelved books and periodicals. The card also allows the use of libraries at all other FH sites in Carinthia as well as the use of the library of the Alpen-Adria-Univer-sity of Klagenfurt.{�� hours of the administrative assistants.

Generally speaking, February and July are the months in which exams take place. Austrian universities of applied sciences allow students to retake an examination twice if courses are failed. If a student fails to pass an examination the second time then they face a panel examination. Failed panel examinations may result in expulsion from a program.

The Austrian climate in the west is dominated by the Alps. This part is rather cool and humid. In the East along the Danube valley the climate has more continental features. �� *��G��observed.Additionally, Austria is also known for its many lakes and beautiful alpine sceneries. The highest mountain is the Großglockner at 3,797 m above sea level, situated ��>�� G��Austria enjoys a moderate continental climate. G��are generally warm and pleasant with cool nights (average summer temperatures of 20-35 degrees Celsius). G�� only. Winters are sunny, with reliable and frequent snow-fall, which is the main reason for foreign tourists spending their holiday here (average winter temperatures around 0°C).Austria‘s southern area is considerably warmer and sun-�� *��Even though spring comes around earlier, winter is as cold and snowy as in the north of the country.
