The Year 9/10 Sydney Excursion experience was enjoyed by all students. The three day trip involved edu‐cational and recreational opportunities for our students. Highlights of the excursion included visits to: NSW Art Gallery, the Central Business District, Redfern Oval (meeting South Sydney players), Art Express, Manly and Bondi Beach and dining at a Chinese restaurant in China Town.  Some students had never been to Sydney before let alone experience the “hustle and bustle” of city life.

level.  Selected secondary students com‐pete at the Western Trial on 13th June in Wellington. Mr Olsson will select individu‐als to participate.   Primary students will be selected in a school team to compete at the NARRAF / Gobondery District trial on 1st June. Mrs Sargent will announce the team at a school assembly. The first five placegetters in each age group at the District trial qualify for the opportunity to compete at the WSSA Trial (13th June in Wellington).  

The Yeoval Show is to be held on Tuesday, 8th May. This is a pupil free day for stu‐dents to attend the show. The school will have an exhibition at the show.  Our school welcomes Sarah Allison who will be spending four weeks as a student teacher in Year 2. We invite parents to in‐troduce yourselves to Sarah when you are in our school. The initial classroom experi‐ence that university students have is one of the greatest challenges that determine their career.  The opportunity to have a Parent /Teacher Interview for Year 12 students has been mailed to parents. Parents are requested to make appointments for the 26th April with our school office.  If this date and time does not suit, please inform the office staff when you are available.  ANZAC Day is on the 25th April. Students and parents are invited to march with the school. All students need to assemble at the entrance to the school in King Street by 10:30 am. Full school uniform is required. The march will be accompanied with drum‐mers from Yeoval Central School.    I had the pleasure to talk to our Year 6 stu‐dents involved in the regional iXtend pro‐gram. Our 6 students explained what pro‐

Congratulations all primary students for the fantastic designs and colours used to make Easter Hats for our parade. The winners were presented with a small Easter prize but Mr Brown and I thought all students did a great job making hats, presenting an item and putting on a good parade. It was great to see a number of parents present and students from St Columba’s participating. I acknowledge the planning and organisation by Ms Crain.   

School Photos are scheduled to be taken on Tuesday 1st May. All students are re‐quired to wear their full school winter uniform. The uniform shop will be open to assist parents who need to purchase uniform. SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOP CON‐TACT: Gaela Elliott 6846 4560 and    Michele Kerin 68464519.  

It is also advisable for parents to have uniforms ready when the school has Ei‐steddfod appearances later this term.  

Our P&C Mothers’ Day stall will be oper‐ating on Friday 4th May for all students. All items for sale will be priced below $6.00. The next P&C meeting to discuss this will be on Tuesday 1st May.  

Our In school Public Speaking competi‐tion has commenced and all students have the information and topics for their speeches. Presentations by the students will be held in our school hall on Friday 4th May. This is an important activity for students to speak in public and display their oral skills. Parents are invited to attend and listen to the students present their speeches.  

The School Cross Country trial will be held on 2nd May commencing at 1:30 pm at the Yeoval Golf Club. As a result of this trial students (primary and secondary) will be selected to compete at the next

ject (“Nourishment”) they were completing and how they were keeping a journal of their work. Later this year they will have the opportunity to present their work to the school.  

You will notice two new garden tables and others that have been revitalised. Mr McLaurin and stu‐dents involved in Metals and Engineering class and Timber courses in 2011 and 2012 are responsible for completing the project. Mr Paul White has been upgrading existing tables.

LIBRARY NEWS  Yeoval Central School is currently running 3 reading incentive schemes. All three are independent of each other but can be run together.  

Strange, yes, but we are very keen to encourage our children to read.  

At school we are running the 50 Nights of Reading program and the Principal’s Reading Challenge. Now, Scholastic, who supports all our Book Fairs, are offering children the chance to win prizes for themselves and their school.  

Brochures and a covering letter are being sent out with this newsletter to all primary students explain‐ing the “2012 National Family Reading Month – May”. It is run by Scholastic and to enter you need to visit www.scholastic.com.au/bookfairs/enter. For anyone who enters these competitions we are happy for you to record any finished books in all 3 schemes. E.g. On completion of “War Horse”, by Michael Morpurgo record it on your Principal’s Reading challenge, record each night of reading on your 50 Nights of Reading book and also use this same reading to fill in the 2012 National Family Reading Month.  

These 3 schemes are a great opportunity for fami‐lies to read lots of books, win prizes but even bet‐ter, get their children reading. Who knows, they might even discover they like it!

KIDZ QUIZ The Quiz is for students to test their  general knowledge.   

All students are invited to complete  the quiz and hand it in at the office  by Thursday each week by 3.20 pm.

EASTER HAT PARADE  

On Thursday 5th April, Yeoval Central School hosted an Easter Hat Parade. Each class presented an item and we were very lucky to have St Columba’s join us.  We were very proud of the effort all students put into their amazing Easter hats. Thank you to our special guest judges Mr Bunnysconi and Mr Brown Rabbit who had the difficult task of carefully se‐lecting our winners.

Miss Crain   We had lots of fun looking at everyone’s wonder‐ful creations of hats. K/1 did an excellent song and stunned the audience. While 3/4 did a terrific job with their expositions. Year 2 read out a narrative about two bunnies and showed matching art works and 5/6 told everyone what Easter means to them personally.  St Columba’s joined us and showed off their wonderful hats as well. We would like to thank Miss Crain for organising the brilliant extravaganza.
