Yeoval Central School Term 3 Week 1
16 July 2012
Our secondary students competed in CHS netball and rugby league competitions during the last week of school (Term 2). Both teams played well and enjoyed the experience. The boys made the semi‐final in rugby league and the girls won one out of three games.
“Glam it up Girls” is to be held on 20 July for Years 10–12. This program was well re‐ceived by Years 7–9 girls who enjoyed the workshop. New photos of school events and activities are on display on our school notice board. Have a look next time you visit our school. Major events in Term 3: Education Week, Years 5/6 Canberra excursion and our Sports Assembly. Cooperation: working together to achieve common goals. Parent / teacher interviews were held at school on Thursday in Week 10. It was fantastic to see a large number of parents attend. Teachers are available anytime during the term outside school lessons to discuss their child’s progress. Ms Crain (Year 2) has scheduled her in‐terviews for Tuesday 17 July commencing at 4:30pm. Miss Reinhold (Arts) and Mr McLaurin (Manual Arts) have interviews scheduled for Tuesday 31 July commencing at 4:30pm. There will be a special primary assembly in the library on Friday 20 July at 12:45. Parents are invited to attend the induc‐tion of our new Primary Captain (replacing Lachlan Blatch). Our Senior Captains, Brittney Smith and Grant Iles presented a speech to the Cabonne Council on behalf of the stu‐dents at Yeoval. They were compli‐mented for their delivery and under‐standing of local government processes. The speech can be read in this week’s Satellite. Mr Cluness supervised Years 5/6 on their excursion to visit Charles Sturt University for “Future Moves” program. The pro‐gram is an initiative that gives students the opportunity to understand university courses. Congratulations Zachariah Millstead who was awarded a Principal’s Reading Chal‐lenge Award. Zach has read the required number of books and was awarded a novel of his own choice to keep. Students enter the challenge by sign‐ing up with Mrs Gavin in the library.

YEARS 7—12 ASSESSMENT TASKS
Apologies to Lincoln Monk whose name was misprinted in the Junior Boys soccer team in the last newsletter. Lincoln helped his team to victory by scoring 4 goals. Well done, Lincoln. What can I give them after school? Kids wouldn’t be kids if they didn’t come home from school “starving!” There’s nothing wrong with needing an afternoon snack. Try to make it a healthy time: rather than letting the kids fill up on chips or biscuits, try to give them snacks that will nourish them as well as filling them up. Some warm ideas for the winter terms include: a cup of vegetable soup, a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich, baked beans on toast, stewed fruit with yoghurt or raisin toast.

This has been a term where students were engaged and offered a number of opportunities. Preparation for assessments and exams was our main focus.

Congratulations to the seven a side rugby league team who competed in the Central School’s League Knockout. The boys competed well and made the semi finals. Results include: Yeoval 20 defeated Gulargambone 8 Yeoval 24 defeated Baradine 16 Molong 24 defeated Yeoval 10 Lake Cargelligo 26 defeated Yeoval 16 Thanks to all the parents for the support on the day and well done to the boys, you played exceptionally well. Our netball teams also competed in the Central Schools Knockout. Results for the U/16’s: Yeoval 19 defeated Trangie 2 Coolah 25 defeated Yeoval 8 Molong 15 defeated Yeoval 10 Yeoval 9 defeated Mendooran 7 Peak Hill 22 defeated Yeoval 20 Special thanks to Mr Rogers who stepped in as super coach at the last minute and did a great job. Thanks to Brittney Smith for umpiring on the day. Results for the Opens Girls: Warren 28 defeated Yeoval 10 Lake Cargelligo 20 defeated Yeoval 12 Yeoval 12 defeated Gulargambone 10 Well done to all the girls involved, you looked fantastic in your new uniforms and played well over the 2 day carnival. Thanks to Marissa Smith for umpiring on the day. The Yeoval Central School Sports Assembly will be held on Thursday 20th September in the school hall. This assembly recognises student achievement in the sporting field with winners of swimming, athletics, cross country awarded medallions. House Captains and sporting representatives are also awarded with certificates and trophies. This year we are unveiling the Yeoval Central School Sporting Hall Of Fame. This will recognise past students who have attended the school and have represented NSW or Australia in their chosen sport. As this is the first year of commencement I do not wish to leave anybody out and so far these people have been nominated by members of the community: Luke Johnson (Rugby Union) Chris Tremain (Cricket) Elisha Kunkel (Cross Country) Jacob Harvey (Cricket) Graeme Porch (Rugby Union) Genevieve Job (Rugby Union) James Blatch( Rugby Union) John Stanbrook (Rugby Union) The plan is to get in contact with these athletes or their families to get a photo of them which we at the school can frame and hang proudly in the hall. They will also be invited to the ceremony to see the un‐veiling. If there is anyone else in the community who I can contact who have represented at this level and attended Yeoval Central School at some stage, then I would like to recognise them as well. At the completion of the sports assembly at school there will be a BBQ lunch for the students and a function after school at the Yeoval Hotel where some refreshments will be provided to the hall of fame inductees.
