We started the month believing God was moving in our lives, and making a new path for our family; but we weren’t sure how it would all work out. As we were praying and seeking the Lord, we be- gan to prepare, in faith, that we knew just where he was sending us. We were right and He blew us away with how faithful He has been. In our short time here in Richlands, we have been overwhelmed by all of the love and support our new church family has given us. We have been loved on with help moving, meals, cards, calls, and visits. Most of all we know that you all have been in prayer for us as we have made this transition, and those mean so much! We are thankful that God has called us to FCC in Richlands, NC. We know that He has big things in store for us as a whole. There’s a lot to be learned from this whole experience. God has shown us what it means to step out in faith, to trust, to be faithful, and to be still and know He is God. As we move into the fall season and we look ahead at all of the wonderful things this season brings; let us remember that while seasons come and go; whether it be in life or nature, God is still on the throne. He is still in charge and He doesn’t change. We can seek Him and know that He is faithful. When we look at Deuter- onomy 7:9 He tells us to “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.” I’m so thankful for his faith- fulness and love. Thankful that He is sovereign and He has my and my family’s best interest at heart. Aren’t your glad he has yours? In this new season in life and in the church I encourage us all to hold on to that promise that He has given us. We don’t know what each day will hold, but we find hope in who holds each day. I’m so thankful to be called as your new pastor. My hope is that the Lord will continue to lead us all to do great things for the Kingdom. If we all work together I believe that we can do great things in the name of Jesus.

A Word For the Church Pastor Mark Reid

August has been a busy month for my family. We started the month believing God was moving in our lives, and making a new path for our family; but we weren’t sure how it would all work out. As we were praying and seeking the Lord, we be-gan to prepare, in faith, that we knew just where he was sending us. We were right and He blew us away with how faithful He has been. A Word For the Church Our time together was brief, but it was so sweet. I want to thank everyone for your kindness and encouragement, it means so much! FCC is on the brink of a new adventure, one that I trust will be long and fruitful. As the Apostle Paul told the church in Thessalonica, “2 We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.3 We remember be-fore our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompt-ed by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalo-

nians 1:2-3).” If you ever need anything from me, please let me know! 479-422-0111 and [email protected].

Let’s keep in touch on Facebook. And meanwhile I commend to you your new Senior Minister, Pastor Mark Reid. Blessings to you now and forevermore!

Pastor Keith and Carolyn Mackey

Worship Committee News Terry Jarman, Committee Chair

We extend a warm welcome to Reverend Mark Reid and his family. God’s timing has aligned with our wishes and wants. We have been wait-ing patiently for the full-time minister position to be filled. Thank God it has come to reali-ty. As holy scripture tells us, “those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…”

Once again, a great big thank you to those who filled the pulpit and helped with our worship services while we did not have a full-time minis-ter. We are a blessed church, because up until Pastor Keith stepped in as our interim minister, there was never a Sunday our pulpit wasn’t filled.

A special thank you to Reverend Mackey for serving as our interim minister these last five and a half months. May God’s blessings contin-ue to be upon him, Carolyn and their family.

The building we hold worship services in each week is only a structure. We, the body of believ-ers are the church. We are God’s servants and vessels. He wants to use us for His glory and honor.

Corporate or group worship is the time we gath-er together to worship and praise God. This is accomplished through songs, prayer, commun-ion and God’s word. We get out of worship what we put into it. We each may worship dif-ferently, however, true worship comes from the heart.

Christian Women’s Fellowship Mary Ann, Secretary

At our monthly meeting on August 13, several ladies were in attendance. After prayer concerns and praises were given, Shirley gave the opening prayer. Following the prayer, Peggy shared the devotion, “Tough Love”. The scripture was Proverbs 10:12.

Our caterer for our church Christmas Party will be catered by Tina Baysden. The CMF are respon-sible for our entertainment. The CWF will provide all paper products and pay the tip. Kristy will

check with Mallorie on getting the same company to purchase CWF t-shirts that the church is using to purchase Home-coming t-shirts. The movie, ‘The Prayer Box’, has been cancelled due to a conflict in scheduling. The menu has been planned for the Sock Hop on Sept. 6, from 6:30 PM until. We will be serving hamburgers, rolls, chips, sodas, bottled water and desserts. The cost is $8. We will be decorating the CLC the week of the dance. Pastor Keith Mackey has agreed to be the DJ. This is a great time for good food, great fellow-ship and lots of fun. Tickets may be purchased from one of the CWF, CMF and the church office.

For our information, Homecoming is October 20 at 10 AM. We will have one service. Our homecoming meal will follow.

We are getting great response to our craft show scheduled for Oct. 12, from 9 AM to 2:30 PM in both buildings. The CWF approved purchasing 4 new banners for advertisement to replace much used ones. Purchasing cloth table-cloths was discussed. Brenda H. agreed to check on nice plastic ones and report to us.

For our service projects, we gave 2 individuals monetary gifts, $100 to a youth event, and $40 to Worship and Wonder. Since our last meeting, we also have purchased 12 window fans, 20” ones, and gave to the Senior Center to be given to those in need. We are also collecting small boxes of ketchup and mustard for our local ministry. Our congregation is invited to contribute also.

Our treasurer gave an update on our current balance after our service projects and also what was taken in at our meeting. Our balance, before and after our donations, was also given in our Christmas box.

Ladies, all ladies, all ages, we invite you to join us at our next scheduled meeting on September 10. Ann Jones is our hostess.

After enjoying refreshments served by Carol Tripp, our meeting ended with prayer by Brenda H.

Christian Men’s Fellowship Dennis Jones, Reporter

The CMF met for its regular monthly meeting on Monday, August 5, with eight members present. Thank you cards were shared from Hannah Nelson, our 2019 Scholarship recipient, as well as, a card from Ken Holland. The group signed get-well cards to send to Allen Barbee and Johnny Broughton. CMF President Tom Barbee passed out CWF tickets for the upcoming Sock Hop on September 6.

Mike Bennetch provided a devotion entitled “Still Yielding” taken from Steve Chapman’s book, A Look at Life from a Deer Stand. The scripture text was Psalm 92:14, “They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green…” Just as a deer hunter looks for a strong older tree, which is still productive in foliage and fruit, for the placement of his deer stand, as older, more mature, Christians we have the added pressure to be firmly planted in Christ so that we can be tested to support other younger Christians. Mike concluded the evening by providing some delicious refreshments.

The August Men’s Birthday Breakfast was held at Angie’s in Jacksonville with fourteen men in attendance. Birth-day Boy “Edward Williams” was given a free breakfast. Our September Birthday Breakfast will be Saturday, Sep-tember 21 at Angie’s at 7:15 a.m. As always, all men of the church at welcomed to attend this special gathering!

Due to Labor Day, our September CMF meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 3 at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Duwayne Divens will provide the devotional program and Steve Rogers promises some delicious refresh-ments to end the gathering.

Everyone is reminded to reserve two upcoming dates involving the CMF: first, our next Soup and Sandwich fund-raiser is scheduled for Sunday, November 17; secondly our annual churchwide Christmas Party, sponsored by the CMF and CWF, is scheduled for Monday, December 2.

Please remember that all men of the church, whether a member or simply an active participant, are all invited to attend our CMF gatherings. Plan to come on out and have some good Christian fellowship with us!!
