“People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did.
But people will never forget how you made them feel.”

#1 Bigger isn’t always Better
Rent the smallest possible booth space you can
to display but not crowd your product. Keeping
everything together without big gaps will allow
visitors to see everything at a glance.
Also, everyone knows how much booth space
costs, so the bigger your space you rent, the
more your visitor will feel you will pressure them
for a sale.

... Switching to a high table and bar stools gives
your prospective customer a choice whether they
would like to sit or stand. Offer them a seat, but if
they choose to stand, then so should you.
#2Don’t Set a Trap
... but also don’t hide behind a desk.
Keep your display open and inviting. Make
a space that people can enter comfortably
without feeling trapped or under pressure to
chat.
Alternatively, if you set a table across the front
of your booth and stand behind it, it’s harder to
draw customers in and involve them - so they
tend to walk by.

... Due to the overwhelming amount of product
Cougar Parts has available in their warehouse, it was
decided to design banners depicting the warehouse
shelving to surround the inside of their display and
only have a small selection of product on display.
#3You don’t have to display EVERYTHING
Focus on what you what to get out of the exhibit, and
only display what’s important. It should be immediately
obvious to anyone approaching your booth, what you are
promoting.
If your business has multiple services or products, set a
priority so you focus on one or two only for the event. This
will allow you to maintain a less cluttered look, and a more
simple approach to the customer.

#4Renting Releives Stress
Consider renting what you need for your booth, such as
monitors, furniture, shelving or even plants. By renting
you can not only afford to be a little more “flashy” than
your budget migh normally allow, but you also save on the
stress of logistics.
If you are a regular exhibitor, renting components allows
you to host multiple events at similar times without the
panic. You can also change the theme depending on the
type of event or what you are promoting at each booth.
#5Research, Be Prepared & Practice
Find out everything you can about your booth before you
start planning. Where it’s located in relation to the stage,
door, cafe, toilets... Exact dimensions and materials
provided ... electricity, powerpoints, lighting, wifi etc ...
Find out who is next to and around you, and do some
research on them, even if they are not competition.
Setup your display in the office and practice. See what
display works, what stands out, and what changes you
can do to attract attention.

#6Design for Mobility
Design your booth with an eye to keeping transporting
items simple and the cost of shipping low.
Whether you’re exhibiting out of state, or sat your local
markets, the theory is the same ... how much can you
carry, and will it break?
Look at fabric displays and drops instead of vinyl and
corflute, popup bowls and stands instead of glass, and
cardboard or flexible plastic brochure displays.
#7Think about Security
Sticking your handbag under the desk is probably not the
most secure option, especially if you’re distracted by trying
to make a sale.
Make sure you have a secure locked cupboard as part of
your display if you plan to leave items behind over night,
and consider cable locks for laptops and locked display
cabinets for expensive products while on display.

... Due to the event using our networking product
called POKEN, we chose to brand and keep the fo-
cus of the display on that specific product. Our other
services were displayed, but in a smaller way and in
keeping with the POKEN branding.
#8Limit Colours & Textures
To have a professional appearance, you don’t need to
spend loads of money, you just need to be very particular
about your choices. Start by create a unified appearance
with all your branding.
When it comes to the components within your booth, limit
your colour choices to 3 which will match well with your
branding and also the supplied floor and walls.
Keep your component textures down to a minimum also,
for example if you choose brushed aluminum, don’t use
shiny aluminium as well.
