Our Lord JESUS CHRIST the KING

(or Jesus Christ King of the Universe)

This 34th Sunday is the final Sunday in Ordinary Time

for the Church, and it marks the end of the current

liturgical year. I truly like the title of the solemnity

we celebrate this Sunday – Jesus Christ King of the

Universe! It sounds like a title given to the

characters of the many superhero movies that have

come out these past few years. When asked, “Who

is your hero?,” very few (if any) individuals respond,

“Jesus!” That’s because Jesus is so far removed

from our daily lives that we don’t see Him as a hero

– our hero!

This beautiful feast is very recent in the church

calendar, established in the early twentieth century

by Pope Pius XI. At a time when many political

leaders were vying for power and control in and of

the world, the Holy Father, Pope Pius XI, wanted

to assure the world that Jesus is King of both

Heaven and earth. Jesus Christ reigns and has

sovereignty over ALL things! It is Jesus Christ who

reigns, not secularism, consumerism, materialism,

or any other “…ism” created by man or the world.

In the final analysis it is Jesus’ reign which will last

forever, so you choose this day who or what you

will allow to reign over you! Will you let Jesus be

your Hero?

Sacred Scripture reminds us constantly that we

are not to “lord it over them.” All power and

authority ultimately come from God. As Christians

we must remember that we lead people by example

and by servant-leadership, and by developing the

whole of the human person(s) who are led by us.

Jesus is the quintessential example of servant

leadership – leading by serving others. We must

keep in mind that Jesus Christ is the true King of

all things and everyone, and He will decide our

final destiny by the power and authority given to

Him by God the Father. We, therefore, should

imitate Christ in everything we say and do,

including the way we exercise power and authority

over others. We, therefore, share in Jesus’

Kingship by loving and caring for others.

Today the Church Honors Her Youth

We give God thanks today for the gift of the youth

Let Your Child or Grandchild Say Grace on Thanksgiving Day

God, I thank you for today. I thank you for cousins with whom to play. I thank you for the food we eat. I thank you for all the tasty treats. Bless the hands that made this food. Thank you for everything because it’s good. Amen.

Huge Thanks! … to the Men of St. Daniel and our Knights of Columbus Council #15967 for hosting the Veterans’ Breakfast on Sunday, November 7. Your hard work and smiling faces (and yummy breakfast!) made the morning extra special for all who attended, but especially those who have served. We appreciate you!!!

Knights to Lead Rosary Next Sunday After Mass Maybe praying the Rosary is a devotion close to your heart. Maybe you’re new to it. Either way, please join your parish family after the 11:00 a.m. Mass next Sunday, November 28 to pray the Rosary, led by the Knights. Please join in this beautiful devotion to Our Blessed Mother.

Want to be Someone’s “Angel”??? Much like we’re doing for Thanksgiving, our parish St. Vincent de Paul Conference will be submitting names of families we will be adopting for Christmas. We will provide the children with clothes and/or toys, and the family with a Christmas meal. This will be in addition to our annual Giving Tree endeavor. In the past, we have had “angel families” who stepped forward to adopt those in need. Maybe those angels will once again grace us with their gifts. Or maybe there are work or other small groups who would like to participate specifically in this Adopt-A-Family endeavor. Please contact the

Christian Service Office at [email protected] or 248-625-4583.

Parish Advent Evening November 28 The days leading up to Christmas are often filled with hustle and bustle and lots of preparation. But what is it that we are REALLY celebrating? Let’s take an evening to slow down and prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of the Greatest Gift!

Join your parish family for an Advent Evening of Prayer, Reflection, Fellowship, and Desserts for Women and Men on Sunday, November 28, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Cushing Center Social Hall.

Have a group of family or friends that you would like to invite to this special evening? Sign up to be a table host/hostess! Or come by yourself … there will be open seating and you’ll be in good company! For more information, either see the flyer in the church gathering space, or visit

https://stdanielclarkston.org/the-greatest-gift-advent-evening. And let us know you’ll be attending the evening so we’ll have a place set for you! You can fill out the RSVP form online, send an email to [email protected], or call 248-625-4583 by Wednesday, November 24. Hope to see YOU there!

He has bestowed upon our community and through-

out the world. Yes, the youth are the leaders of our

future both in the Church and in the world. But they

are also leaders now, today.

Young people have much to offer us in their manner

of expression, views, outlook, perspective, intellect,

etc. We are blessed here at St. Daniel to have a very

active and vibrant High School Youth Group. I can

tell from my interaction with them that they are fully

engaged and in tune with the world around them.

These youths demonstrate a genuine care for others

both in our St. Daniel community as well as in the

whole world. They have a well-balanced concern for

both ecclesial and secular matters, challenges, and

opportunities. I thank Leanne Schuster, Pam

Zawadski, and Liz Diebel for leading our St. Daniel

Youth Group. Through their leadership our young

people are being developed spiritually, personally,

and intellectually via the various activities in which

they partake, such as prayer, participation at Mass

and liturgies, fun and games, presentations on varied

topics, prayer, etc.

May God bless our youth that the good work God

has begun in them may come to fulfillment! Have a

blessed week and a Thanksgiving filled with family,

thanks, giving, rest, peace, and love!

In Jesus through Mary,

Fr. John

On November 28, at the 9:00am Mass, this year’s class of Inquirers will go through the Rite of Welcome, also known as the Rite of Acceptance. These Inquirers have already been attending RCIA sessions since early October. During that time, some of them have experienced a conversion;

others have deepened and strengthened their relationships with God in Christ, and still others have come to know and understand the Catholic faith a bit better. In either case, some of these Inquirers are now ready to publicly declare their desire to continue their journey towards full initiation into the Catholic Church. We invite you to join us and offer your support through your smile and your prayers and as they continue their journeys toward Easter.

The Ministry of Acolyte is one of three minor orders that the Church has created: Catechist, Lector, and Acolyte. These minor orders correspond with three ministries essential to the Church's life, namely: teach-ing the faith, proclaiming the Scriptures, and serving at liturgies. While anyone can do these things, the Church has seen fit to give certain Individuals a special blessing and responsibility

for doing them. Seminarians are required to receive the orders of Lector and Acolyte before becoming Deacons and then Priests, which means that these orders function a little bit like rites of passage as a seminarian moves through his formation process. In fact, these orders are very rarely given outside of that context, which is why very few people have heard of them. At my seminary, we receive the Ministry of Lector at the beginning of our third-to-last year, and the Ministry of Acolyte at the beginning our second-to-last year. Receiving the Ministry of Acolyte, for me, means that I am on schedule to become a Deacon at the end of this school year, and then a Priest a year after that! Becoming a Deacon is an especially big deal because at that point, my commitment to a life of ministry in the Church will become fixed and permanent. I appreciate all of the prayers and support that I receive from St. Daniel's please continue to pray for me as I approach this very important step in my journey!
