Multiple times per year, theClarkston Area Lions provide freeeye screening to pre-school chil-dren using photo technology incooperation with Childrens Hospi-tal. This non-invasive photoscreening can detect most prob-lems that cause poor vision inyoung children. It is a great tool,as in most cases the child doesntknow that he or she has a vision

problem. We were able to screen106 children during four photoscreening events conducted dur-ing the past 12 months, and we lookforward to surpassing that numberin the coming year.

The Clarkston Area Lionsare also a resource for those wholive in our community and needeyeglasses or hearing aids, but can-not afford them. Since our club waschartered in 2005, we have providedeyeglasses to more than 40 area resi-dents, and have assisted two resi-

dents to obtain hearing aids at re-duced or no cost.

The Club collects used eye-glasses and hearing aids that arerecycled throughout the world. Thanks to many volunteers, it onlycosts about ten cents to pay theexpenses to fit a pair of used eye-glasses to someone in a third worldcountry. For many it means the dif-ference between work and no workor between learning in school ornot. All optical facilities in theClarkston area accept used eye-glasses and hearing aids for theClarkston Area Lions. Our club hasrecycled over 12,400 eyeglassesand 94 hearing aids since 2005.

Funding for the above activitiescomes from a variety of fundraisingevents, including EntertainmentBook sales, selling refreshments ata Concert in Depot Park, and WhiteCane Week. White Cane Week isthe one time a year when local Li-ons ask the community for dona-tions to help fund the eye care andother services discussed above.

For the past three years,Town Center Auto Wash, lo-cated on Sashabaw Road be-tween Maybee and Waldonroads, has been voted Best ofthe Best Auto Wash in thearea.

Owners Steve Pearson andGary Miller recently discussedhow the wash continually

earns outstanding recognition.First of all, we would like

to thank the community for theaward and also for their con-tinued confidence in our com-pany, Miller said. We wouldespecially like to thank our em-ployees for all their hard work.We realize were only as goodas our employees and wethink our employees are theabsolute best.

Their philosophy is to buyall their products in largequantities in order to get dis-counted prices, then pass thediscounts on to customersthrough regular daily specials.

We continually strive toimprove the wash by commu-

Best Auto Wash: Town Center Auto Washnicating with our employees, along with testing new equip-ment and products.

Next month, the interior ofthe wash is getting a completemakeover, Pearson explained.

Although we have beenopen for only five years, wewill be changing all of theequipment that actually

touches your vehicle duringthe wash process, he said.

For the last couple ofyears, we have been closelywatching development of afoam product that is far supe-rior to the standard cloth prod-ucts seen in all the washes to-day. We have observed its t re-mendous cleaning ability aswell as its ability to adapt toall the different body styles ofvehicles. Now that the bugshave been worked out, we areexcited to finally be able to in-stall it in our wash.
