The question on race was changed in Census 2000.
The data collected by Census 2000 on race can be divided into two broad categories: the race alone population and the Two or more races population.

The majority of the Two or more races population lived in the West.
Nearly two-thirds of all people who reported more than one race lived in just ten states.

One in three people in the Two or more races population also reported as Hispanic.
Six percent of Hispanics reported more than one race.
The percent reporting more than one race varied by race.
About four-fifths of individuals who reported more than one race included “White” as one of the reported races.
People who reported more than one race were more likely to be under age 18 than those reporting only one race.
