    The Brief

The work that you produce at this stage of the course willform the main body of work in your portfolios for job oruniversity interviews. By now, you should have a clear idea aboutwhat kind of Fine Art interests you. You should also be in theprocess of developing a set of concerns or concepts thatfascinate you. This assignment is all about producing acoherent body of work and presenting it in a professionalmanner. It is essential from this point onwards that you areinvestigating aspects of art, design and critical studies thatparticularlyinterest you and are relevant to your chosen specialism.Looking at how other artists display, install and present their

workwill form a key part of this assignment.

Ultimately you will need to produce a physical portfolio and an e-portfolio presenting and describing professionally mounted, displayed or documented work.

Alongside this you will be required to compile a progression filewith all the information you have gathered regarding yourprogression. This file should reflect your choice to apply touniversity and/or opportunities in the creative industries.

    Task 1. Make a Presenting Fine Art Work Folder(To be completed in the first week of the assignment)(Unit 84. P1, P3, M1, M3, D1, D3)

Visit a range of exhibitions in London Galleries and Museums. While you are there carry out in-depth analysis of how artists andcurators display and present the art work. Use the Exhibition LogBook, on Moodle and Posterous, to help prompt you initialinvestigation into how artwork can be presented. Consider the spaceitself, the lighting, the written info available, the atmosphere andwhat kind of effect the gallery wants to create, whom the exhibitionis targeted toward and evaluate how effective you think the overallinstallation is. Compile all your research including photographs youhave taken, postcards, drawings etc in a folder entitledPresenting Fine Art Work.

Task 2. Select and Develop Your Ideas(Unit 78. P1, P2, P3, M1, M2, M3, D1, D2, D3) Through discussion with your tutors and peers, select and developan ideaor setof ideas which excite you artistically have potential

    for development.

Work through your ideas visually in your sketchbooks and byintensive experimentation with different materials and techniques instudio work. Your sketchbooks should be thoughtful and reflect thework you are producing, the size and type of book is up to you butwe expect to see exciting and original pages. These initial ideas

should be taken as far as is possible, the first, second or thirdsolution is not enough.

Task 3. Produce Final Work(Unit 78. P1, P2, P3, M1, M2, M3, D1, D2, D3) From the body of work produced, select, review, and consolidateideas and experiments to realise into final works suitable for yourportfolio.

Task 4. Mount and Display(Unit 84. P2, P3, P4, M2, M3, M4, D2, D3, D4)Experiment creatively with the presentation of your workboth in your sketchbooks, your portfolio and in your own workspace.Document your presentation experiments in your sketchbooks andexplain the reasons for your choices making references toother artists presentation techniques. Gather a range offeedback from tutorials, peer assessment and any other informedbody as evidence of your research. Then, select the bestmethods of mounting your work for your portfolio.

    Task Four. Make a Portfolio(Unit 10. P2, M2, D2)

Produce a portfolio of artwork suitable for progression onto eitheruniversity or into opportunities in the creative industries. Theportfolio should demonstrate your interest in the specialism aswell as the skills and ideas you have developed whilst on theFine Art course.

    Task Five. Compile a Progression Pack(Unit 10. P1, P3, P4, M1, M3, M4, D1)

Collect and research material for suitable progression routes,

such as university prospectuses, apprenticeship schemes or jobsand opportunities advertised on the Artists Newsletter and ArtQuest websites. Prepare written material to support yourprogression. This could take the form of a UCAS personalstatement, a CV or job application forms. Keep all of theinformation in an organised progression folder to be handed in atthe end of the assignment. You will be expected to participate in amock interview and you should retain all feedback from your tutorsto add to your file.
