Presidents Comments by Steve Kennedy

Thank you to everyone who attended the AprilPresident’s Dinner at the Welshire. The eveningwas great with 38 members in attendance whichwas a great turnout. Gordon showed two presen-tations, one was about the design and building ofthe new Jaguar I-Pace electric car and BillBeeson talked about the other video of the Jag-uar built module which replaces the 6 cylinderXK engine and transmission and converted it toa total electric vehicle. Photos from this eventare throughout this newsltter.

The Spring Dust-Off will be May 19 th; detailsare in this newsletter and then the secondJudge’s School on the following Sunday atHagerty’s.

June will be a busy month with the ACC event onthe 10th and our concours on the 30th. We hadoriginally planned to hold it at the Spirit of Flightmuseum in Erie but the owner had to cancel soValerie Kirby stepped right in and found a park inBroomfield, not too far from their new home, where we can hold the concours then go to theirhome that evening for dinner and the awardsceremony. Full details on the loose insert in thisnewsletter.

Not a club event but on May 12th, Hagerty isholding a Driving Experience for Teen Age Driv-ers, with an introduction to manual transmis-sions. If you would like to help out, you can

probably just show up out at theHagerty facility in Golden, 1010Johnson Rd #150, Golden, CO80401.

A project we might want to lookinto is helping the Forney Muse-um. We have not been there asa club in some time. With lots ofcity construction going on, ac-cess to the museum has beenrestricted as has been their attendance. There isno easy access from I-70. Some clubs have do-nated as much as $300 to them just to help theykeep going. We could do that or we could get 25to 30 members to attend and each donate $10.We might be able to find some time in July orAugust. If someone would like to head this up,please contact me or Deanie.

Remember the Air/Car show that many of ushave attended at Front Range Airport in Watkins. The city has taken over management of the air-port and it seems the CCCC could not reach anagreement with the airport on the car show date.Anyway, the CCCC has made arrangements tohold an Air/Car Show/Swap Meet at the RockyMountain Metro Airport (Jeffco Airport) in Broom-field on August 4th. We have had great atten-dance to this event in the past, it would be greatif we could support this event. See the write-upin this newsletter.

Ted Hummel’s Uncle

Ted’s uncle William Hellstern was a Gunners Mate 2nd Class on the USS Oklahoma,a Nevada-class battleship that was sunk by several torpedoes during the Japaneseattack on Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941. Five and a half years ago the Navy con-tacted Ted and said they were trying to identify remains and asked for samples ofTed’s and his mother’s DNA. Ted’s mother passed away some years ago, but it justso happened that he had a locket of her hair that he could send to them along witha swap of his own DNA.

They called him several months ago and said they had identified his uncle’s re-mains and they will be doing a full military funeral at 11 am at Mt. Olivet Friday, May18th. As Ted does not have much family, just him and his son, it would be great ifwe could have a great representation from the Jaguar club at the funeral. Ted willalso be sending in a full write-up about his uncle in the next newsletter.

Don, Mark and Barbara

The month of May is approaching and it is time for us all to start thinking seriously about the 2018Colorado Concours. This year's date is Sunday June 10th, and will be the 35th rendition of thisgreat event which, as always, will take place on the lawn at Arapahoe Community College, 5900 S.Santa Fe Drive in Littleton. Sponsored by Ability Connection Colorado (ACCO) this year's concourswill benefit at-risk children through ACCO's Creative Options for Early Childhood Education Pro-gram.

As many of you know ACCO is RMJC's desig-nated charity and our club was one of the veryearly sponsors of this event. Last year's showhonored Jaguar as the featured Marque andpaid tribute to our club's 50th anniversary. Some40 Jaguars were in attendance highlighted byJeff Schroeder's amazing C and D-Types andDave Massy's spectacular Cotswold Blue XK150 that garnered the Concours' coveted Peo-ple's Choice Award.

You can register on line at the ACCO website or at www.coloradoconcours.org. The last date toregister and have your car included in the program is Wednesday May 16th. On line registrationcloses Wednesday May 23rd which is also the cut-off date for signing up to have your car Concoursjudged. After May 23rd you can download the registration form and take it to ACCO (June 6-8) orbring it the morning of the show assuming space is available. This year's entry fee is $50.00($100.00 if you want your car Concours judged). We will have our usual club judging and ACCO willprovide 1st and Place ribbons for our regular six classes plus a special "Judges Choice" ribbon.

Last year's event netted ACCO $101,498.00. This year's featured Marque is Porsche and they arepromising some very special cars. When you go on line to register be sure to mark RMJC as yourclub affiliation. You might also want to check out ACCO's Porsche Cayman raffle. In conjunctionwith all their fundraising events in 2018, ACCO is selling chances to win a 2019 Porsche CaymanGTS (or $75,000.00). The drawing will be held December 15th and you don't have to be present towin.

As always I could use 3 or 4 volunteers to help stake out the grounds at the college on Saturday the9th. Please let me know if you can help. We can also use a couple volunteers on Sunday morningto park cars and direct traffic. Please contact me with any questions or for any assistance in gettingregistered etc. Let's have another great turnout!

Thanks all for supporting our club in this event.

The meeting this month washosted by Dwight and LindaEisnach. All of us truly appre-ciated their hospitality andwonderful food. Our clubdoes food and drinks betterthan any other club.

The meeting was opened byPresident Steve Kennedy at7:30pm. In attendance wereBrent McGibbon, Jackie Re-drupp, Deanie Kennedy, Gor-don Kenney, Bob Grossman,Vince Lane, GaryGeorge, Dwight Eis-nach, Don Leach, andBill Beeson.

Treasurer’s Report:Deanie reported that thefinancial status of theclub remains very good. The majority of CatTales advertisers have renewed for 2018. Clubmembership is at 100 with several more renew-als expected. The Club is on budget. Deanie,as the Club Webmaster, also commented onongoing improvements to the website content.

Event Recap: The Annu-al General Meeting(AGM) of JCNA held inMarch was attended byDeanie and Steve Ken-nedy and Bob Grossman. This year’s meeting washeld in San Antonio, TX.Highlights from the meet-ing were presented bythe attendees. This in-cluded a rundown of new rules for ConcoursJudging and a recently released, very extensive,XK 120 Judging Guide. One new rule that drewsome controversy at AGM was one requiringJudges to evaluate the cleanliness of the itemsthat can be seen through wire wheels and alloyson all models, like brake calipers, rotors, and in-ner wheels, but not for authenticity.

The Presidents Din-ner was also re-capped with theconsensus beingthat it was a veryenjoyable and suc-cessful gathering. We enjoyedgreat conversations at each table, good food and drinks, and athought provoking video presenta-tion on the future of Jaguar elec-tric cars, both new and classics.

Upcoming Events: Don Leach, our representative to the Col-orado Classic Car Council(CCCC) reported on the deci-sion of the CCCC to supportthe Rocky Mountain AirportAirplane and Car Show thisyear. This is a departurefrom CCCC supporting theWar Birds Car Show held atFront Range Airport as they

have in the past. As a member club of theCCCC, RMJC will support the Rocky MountainAirport Show.

It was reported by Deanie that the RMJC Con-cours d’Elegance originally scheduled at the

“Spirit of Flight” Muse-um is to be relocateddue to a schedulingconflict at the muse-um. Details are in thisissue of Cat Tales.

Vince reported on theACC show and re-minded us that volun-teers are requested for

set up the day before and the morning of show tohelp direct the cars onto the field.

Gary also reported on the British Car Conclaveand our long time commitment to this popularshow. Hagerty Insurance has increased theircommitment to the show this year.

Alans second event was the the Scottish Highland Games, which has returned to the Denver area from Snowmass.

It is to be held at Citizen’s Park in Edgewater August 4 &5. Theywould like have five (5) Jaguars to show on August 5th from9am to 4pm

Alan had one further request that was regarding the untimelypassing of a member of the MG Club. He is helping the familydispose of this member’s collection of British car scale modelsand books that were left to his family and brought several itemsfor purchase. Some of our members were happy to buy many ofthese items.

Gordon Kenney provided the evening’s program with a Jaguarclassic race car video hosted by Alan De Cadnet. It was fasci-nating to watch Alan aggressively drive priceless Jaguarsthrough beautiful British country sides as he described the char-acteristics and history of each one. The sounds emitted bythese jewels were amazing.

The meeting was adjourned after the program.

continued …Minutes of General Meeting of April 10th by Bill Beeson

Despite Steve getting the dates mixed up, seven Judges showed up for Gary’s class, Dwight Eis-nach, Ray Horral, Bill Beeson, Jon Strader, Tom Cohen, Rick Hill and Steve Kennedy. Gary wentover the 2018 updates and reviewed many of the items he thought were important.

The biggest change for 2018 is on wheels. The inside of the wheels are now judged for cleanlinessand condition. If you can see it, it needs to be clean. That does not mean to judge for authenticity forsomething like the brake drums on XK 120s; are they red or black. That still does not matter, theyjust need to be clean. However, if they are rusty, that falls under the Condition deduction, they canbe any color, but rust is not a color, it’s a condition.

On the other hand, do not judge the suspension for on E-Types for anything. That item was broughtup and the decision was to pass on suspension all together.

Thanks to Hagerty for hosting the Judge’s School and buying lunch. Jeff Shroder had offered to buylunch but Hagerty insisted.
