Audience FeedbackAfter finishing our editing for our final cut of our film opening sequence, our first instinct was to show some people and get their opinions on it.Most of the people who watched it said how they liked the narration being used on top of the music to tell a story. This way they know what is going on rather than the opening sequence being too confusing and hard to follow. They also liked the music and none of our audience noticed the repetitive use of the music and instead presumed that it was just one clip. They also thought that the time lapse of the road was a clever idea of a shot and editing technique in order to set the scene. One idea for improvement, however, was that the titles should of perhaps been on the screen longer so that it would allow them to process the information on the screen as well as what is actually happening in the scene.Titles

We chose to have this title against the black background as we believe it is a representative of the main characters dull past and present. When the audience first see this, they will automatically suspect that this is not a happy/joyful film. The help of the dramatic music heard at the beginning, as our production company comes up, also helps the audience to establish the mood of our film as well as the opening sequence.Titles

Throughout the rest of the opening sequence, we have tried to incorporate titles into it in the way that it doesnt take the audiences focus away from what is actually happening in the scene. For example, looking at the screenshot above, it presents the title of our movie in the clouds. This way, the audiences attention will only focus on the title for a few seconds and then look towards what is happening in the scene of which we have presented as a time lapse. We decided to keep with the black colour scheme to maintain the dull mood/atmosphere of the film opening.Character

We used an actor (student) to walk past the sign of the road. He is seen dressed in all black clothing with his hood up. The idea of this could make him look more like a gangster and the black colour scheme helps to maintain the dull mood/atmosphere throughout. It may also foreshadow a series of tragic events later on in the film as well as possibly in our opening sequence. Main Character

This is where the main character is introduced, who is currently, in the picture above, sitting on the brick wall. From this shot, the audience can see that he doesnt look particularly happy as he is seen looking down with his hands together. However, the audience cannot really tell that much of the character from the long shot of him, therefore we decided to introduce the narration of him speaking. This is where he says This is me. Immediately, from his tone of voice, he does not sound very happy, and this is where we maintain the atmosphere of being very cold and dull. We decided for the main character to speak in his natural voice as our target audience will live in the same county as him and will therefore understand his voice and choice of slang. (Most younger people will understand the slang terms)Shot 1

This shot portrays a shot from a high angle of the main character holding the knife which has blood on it. Instantly, from this shot, the audience will be able to acknowledge that the genre of this film will relate to either any of the three genres; crime, action and horror. Also, the shot can make the audience raise questions as to whether someone has been killed, who, and why. This was our intention.Shot 2We liked the idea of using the match on action shot to portray the anger of the main character. This way it hints to the audience that he is probably capable of murdering someone from his personality presented in that scene. However, the action is also juxtaposed by then narration, spoken by the main character himself, when he says It wasnt my fault. This may make the audience believe that it could have been someone else that had murdered somebody.

Shot 3 (All of the running scenes)We liked the idea of using the running scenes as the police come after the boy as it creates suspense. The audience dont know whether or not he will escape or be able to hide from the police as he could get arrested for something he did not do. We also incorporated a shot of the police siren lights shining against the brick wall, slowly moving to the right. We used an app for this and the purpose of using this shot in general was that we believed it would create more realism and make the audience believe that the police are actually after him.
