We also run a Farmers’ Market at Central Star Ferry Pier every Sunday, linking farmers to consumers; - The Native Tree Nursery which produces tree seedlings to facilitate KFBG’s reforestation projects at KFBG and around Hong Kong; - The KFBG Wild Animal Rescue Centre which treats and rehabilitates rescued wildlife and runs a captive breeding programme for endangered turtles; over 50,000 wild animals have been rescued since 1994. - The Green Hub, at the Old Tai Po Police Station, is a restored and repurposed a Grade I Historic Building. It is a centre for promoting local economies and low-carbon living programmes. Kadoorie Farm was established in 1956. In the early days, the KAAA helped people, particularly immigrants, to gain self-sufficiency through agriculture. At one point, over one third of all Hong Kongers were immigrants. The brothers, in partnership with the Government, strove to “help people to help themselves”, and gave newly-arrived farmers breeding stock, seeds, tools, training, agricultural buildings, houses, roads, paths, bridges and micro-loans. As Hong Kong had evolved, so did the organisation. In 1995, KFBG was established as a unique public corporation funded by the Kadoorie Foundation. The Kadoorie brothers, Sir Horace and Lord Lawrence, sowed the seeds of KFBG when they founded the Kadoorie Agricultural Aid Association (KAAA) in 1951. Kadoorie Farm was established in 1956.
