DONES En las lecturas de hoy, se descubre que la riqueza material por sí sola no nos impide ser discípulos. Veremos que hay otros dones más importantes que la riqueza material, pero aún así, es cómo usamos nuestros dones lo que más importa. Las Escrituras de hoy señalan el valor de los dones de la sabiduría, la confianza en Dios y dejando que nuestras acciones reflejen el amor de Dios desde nuestro interior. No es el oro lo que nos hace caer, sino más bien el deseo del oro por encima de todas las demás cosas. De las lecturas de la Sabiduría y de la Carta a los Hebreos, encontramos la fuente de los dones de Dios en nuestras vidas. La sabiduría es más valiosa que las posesiones mundanas. En Hebreos se nos reta a examinar nuestros valores y admitir honestamente lo que controla nuestras vidas.

First Reading — I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. All good things together came to me in her company (Wisdom 7:7-11). Psalm — Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy! (Psalm 90). Second Reading — Indeed the word of God is living and effective (Hebrews 4:12-13). Gospel — It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God (Mark 10:17-30 [17-27]). GIFTS In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth alone does not keep us from discipleship. We will see that there are other gifts more important than material wealth, but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters most. Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of wisdom, trusting in God, and letting our actions reflect the love of God from within. It is not gold that causes us to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other things. From the readings in Wisdom and Hebrews, we find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. Wisdom is more valuable than worldly possessions. In Hebrews, we are challenged to look at our own values and admit honestly what controls our lives.

From the Desk of the Pastor... Del Escritorio Del Párroco... Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo Resucitado:

“Supliqué y se me concedió la prudencia; invoqué y vino sobre mí el espíritu de sabiduría. La preferí a los cetros y a los tronos, y en comparación con ella tuve en nada la riqueza. No se puede comparar con la piedra más preciosa, porque todo el oro junto a ella, es un poco de arena y la plata es como lodo en su presencia. La tuve en más que la salud y la belleza, la preferí a la luz porque su resplandor nunca se apaga. Todos los bienes me vinieron con ella.” El autor presenta la sabiduría como fruto de la oración y más estimada que todos los bienes terrenos, entre los que menciona algunos valorados de modo especial por los griegos: la belleza, la salud, la luz del día. En la medida que uno coloca el espíritu de la sabiduría por encima de las cosas materiales es realmente sabio. Además la sabiduría da acceso a los demás bienes y lo que es más importante garantiza la amistad con Dios. Damos gracias a Dios y todos ustedes comunidad de Santa Fortunata, como pocas parroquias ustedes fueron asequibles a todos estos cambios que se fueron dando desde que invadió la pandemia; fue un proceso paulatino positivo demostrando disciplina, colaboración y apoyo para convertirnos en una comunidad de fieles que escucha la Palabra de Dios y la pone en práctica, respetando los protocolos, logrando así una parroquia sólida que ha puesto su confianza solamente en Dios, eso es Sabiduría. Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Risen Christ: “I prayed, and prudence was given me; I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. I preferred her to scepter and throne, and deemed riches nothing in comparison with her, nor did I liken any priceless gem to her; because all gold, in view of her, is a little sand, and before her, silver is to be accounted mire. Beyond health and comeliness I loved her, and I chose to have her rather than the light, because the splendor of her never yields to sleep. Yet all good things together came to me in her company, and countless riches at her hands. “Here the author presents wisdom as the fruit of prayer and esteemed above all earthly goods, among which he mentions some of those valued in a special way by the Greeks: beauty, health, the light of day. To the extent that one places the spirit of wisdom above material things, a person is truly wise. In addition, wisdom opens the way to other values and what is more important, guarantees friendship with God. I thank God and all of our members of the Saint Fortunata community. Like some other parishes you were open to all these changes put into place since the onset of the pandemic; Gradually, the practices brought about positive results of discipline, collaboration and support resulting in a community of the faithful that listens to the Word of God, putting it into practice, respecting the protocols and thus, achieving a stable parish that puts its trust only in God who is Wisdom. We continue in hope with the assignment of the new Bishop of Brooklyn and Queens, Bishop Robert Brennan; change brings with it possibilities of new ideas for our beloved Diocese. May God assist him and strengthen the work of the Lord already in progress through Bishop Nicolas DiMarzio. Congratulations!
