TODAY’S READINGS & REFLEXION First Reading — In a vision Isaiah is called to be a messenger for the L of hosts. Isaiah responds, “Send me!” (Isaiah 6:1-2a, 3-8) Psalm — In the sight of the angels I will sing your praises, Lord (Psalm 138). Second Reading — Paul reminds us of the gospel he preached through which we are saved, if we believe it (1 Corinthians 15:1-11 [3-8, 11]). Gospel — Jesus directs Simon to take his boat into deep water for a miraculous catch of fish. Simon and his partners leave all to follow Jesus (Luke 5:1-11). All rights reserved HOLY, HOLY, HOLY! “Holy, holy, holy!” Ancient languages, like the Hebrew used in the scriptures, did not always have a way to express superlatives in one word. Isaiah could not say God was “holiest,” so he used the threefold repetition of the same word. This bit of scriptural minutiae about these “three little words” that we sing at every Mass serves as a reminder that answering God’s call has to be grounded in awareness of God’s holiness. In Isaiah and in the Gospel passage today, we hear accounts of the revelation of God’s power and might: the seraphim in the temple and the miraculous catch of fish. These are not wondrous revelations for their own sakes. They lead to a response in mission, Isaiah’s “Here I am, send me!” and the disciples’ leaving everything to follow Jesus. And so must our own “Holy, Holy, Holy!” lead us to Christ in the Eucharist every Sunday, and to a life following him day by day.

REFLEXION Y LECTURAS DE HOY Primera lectura — En una visión, el Señor de los ejércitos llama a Isaías a ser su representante. Isaías responde, “¡Envíame!” (Isaías 6:1-2a, 3-8) Salmo — Cuando te invocamos, Señor, nos escuchaste (Salmo 138 [137]). Segunda lectura — Pablo nos recuerda el Evangelio que nos predicó por medio del cual somos salvados, si creemos (1 Corintios 15:1-11). Evangelio —Jesús le indica a Simón que lleve la barca a la parte más honda para una pesca milagrosa. Simón y sus compañeros lo dejaron todo para seguir a Jesús (Lucas 5:1-11). ¡SANTO, SANTO, SANTO! “¡Santo, Santo, Santo!”. Los idiomas antiguos, como el hebreo empleado en la Sagrada Escritura, no siempre tenían la manera de expresar superlativos en una sola palabra. Isaías no tenía una palabra similar a “santísimo”, así que usó la triple repetición de la misma palabra. Este detalle de minucia bíblica sobre estas “tres pequeñas palabras” que cantamos en Misa cada domingo sirve para recordarnos que responder al llamado de Dios tiene que basarse en estar consciente de la santidad de Dios. En Isaías y el pasaje del Evangelio de hoy, escuchamos relatos que revelan el poder y la fuerza de Dios: los serafines en el templo y la pesca milagrosa. Estas no son revelaciones maravillosas sin razón. Dan lugar a una respuesta misionera, la de “Aquí estoy, ¡envíame!” de Isaías y la de los discípulos que lo dejan todo para seguir a Jesús. De igual manera nuestro “¡Santo, Santo, Santo!” nos lleva a Cristo en la Eucaristía de cada domingo, y a una vida de seguirlo día tras día.

As you may have read in The Tablet or heard from our neighboring parishes, and formally
announced by Bishop DiMarzio, the Diocese of Brooklyn, in partnership with the Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens, has officially launched a Capital Campaign named: “Generations of Faith”. This extraordinary endeavors is designed to ensure the long term ability of the Church in Brooklyn and Queens to support our immediate priorities, launch new programs and address local needs in one coordinated effort within each parish. Every parish has a goal base on Annual Catholic Appeal. Our Parish goal is $190,000.– We are asking our parishioners to participate and get a commitment of 5 years to help us achieve our goal. Generaciones de Fe Nuestra Diócesis ha iniciado formalmente una campaña capital llamada Generaciones de Fe. Para fortalecer el Corazón de nuestra Diócesis. Este esfuerzo extraordinario está diseñado para asegurar la estabilidad de las iglesias de Brooklyn y Queens a largo plazo y para apoyar nuestras prioridades inmediatas, lanzar nuevos programas y atender a las necesidades locales. Cada parroquia tiene una meta basada en la campaña Anual del Obispo la Nuestra es de 190,000. vamos a pedir colaboración a nuestros parroquianos para que hagan un compromiso por 5 años. Del Escritorio del Pastor... Queridos hermanos y hermanas en el Señor Jesús: “Mira: Esto ha tocado tus labios. Tu iniquidad ha sido quitada y tus pecados están perdonados”. Ya este es el último domingo del Tiempo Ordinario y estamos entrando con el Miércoles de Ceniza en el tiempo favorable para hacer revisión de conciencia, revisión de vida que fortalecerá nuestros propósitos en este Año de Gracias que es el de la Misericordia para revisar nuestras actitudes cristianas en nuestro mundo relacional. Aunque tratamos de ser y hacer lo mejor que podemos, sin embargo cometemos transgresiones y sabiendo que no hay pecado individual estamos afectando siempre al otro o a los demás. Que Dios nos asista y podamos lograr no sólo con buenas intenciones, sino con firmes decisiones; para que este tiempo sea un escalón en el caminar en este itinerario hacia el Padre. Ya estamos adentrándonos en la Campaña Capital de Generaciones de la Fe vamos poco a poco consiguiendo la participación de determinados feligreses, algunos de los voluntarios y captando el sentido positivo de esta Campaña aportemos con nuestro granito de arena para alcanzar y ojalá duplicar la meta que es de 190.000 dólares. Hacemos un llamado a que cada miembro de la parroquia considere hacer un compromiso con esta causa sabiendo que la mitad regresará a los fondos de la parroquia para nuestras prioridades y necesidades. Gracias por su colaboración y mano generosa. La vida sigue su curso, oremos para que nuestra parroquia se mantenga unida, compacta con un mismo sentir y espíritu. From the Desk of the Pastor... Dear brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus: “See, now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged.” This is the last Sunday in Ordinary Time and we are entering Ash Wednesday in the favorable time to examine our conscience, to revise our lives that will strengthen our purposes during this year of grace which is the year of Mercy, to revise our Christian attitude in our relational world. Although we try to be and do the best we can, however we commit transgressions and knowing that there is no individual sin we are always affecting others. May God assist us and we can achieve, not just with good intentions, but with firm decisions; so that this time would be a step in the journey during this itinerary towards the Father. We are entering the Capital Campaign of Generations of Faith Little by little we are getting the participation of determined parishioners, some of the volunteers and catching the positive sense of this Campaign. Let us make our small contribution to reach and hopefully double our goal with is 190,000 dollars. We call each member of this parish to consider making a commitment to this cause knowing that half will return to the church funds for our needs and priorities. Thank you for your collaboration and generous hands. Life goes on, let us pray so that our parish remains united, and compact with one mind and spirit.
