Tuesday, 14 June 2016 Dear parents and carers, 22 nd August 2016 – 26 th August 2016 (9AM – 2PM) I am pleased to tell you that Waverley School will be running Summer School Nano this year to support our students coming to Waverley for the first time in September 2016. Our summer school programme has a successful history with 76% of our students making progress in either English or Maths (and 44% making progress in both!) last year. 99% of our students enjoyed their time at Summer School last year! Waverley will be one of the few schools running a summer school programme this year following national budgetary cutbacks, but we believe that the academic and social opportunities that it provides your child will give them the best possible start to their secondary school life. As such, our theme this year is aspiration and we will work to encourage your child to reflect upon their potential and focus their efforts toward achieving the highest possible standards when they arrive in September. During the Summer School week, your child will take part in a range of activities: workshops in English, Maths, and Computer Science; competitions and games; arts and crafts; and our now ‘famous’ cricket and football academy. All of this is available to your child free of charge. I would urge you to apply for a place for your child as soon as possible. There are only 90 places available and experience has taught us that they are taken up quickly. You can apply by completing the permission slip attached and returning this to Waverley School Reception, or alternatively ‘fast-track’ your application by signing up online at www.waverley.bham.sch.uk.
