Assistant Principal’s Report
Curriculum Day The Curriculum Day last Friday provided the staff with three activities. The first was a presentation to the whole staff by Chrissy Collins about the future direction of the College in line with our new Strategic Plan. The second activity allowed teaching staff to work collaboratively with their Performance and Develop-ment Plan in mind. After lunch the final activity was a presentation by Kay Watts from ’Smiling Mind’. Smiling Mind is an organisation that promotes ‘modern meditation’. In recent years, Mindfulness Meditation has surged in popularity for use in the treatment of stress, resili-ence, anxiety, depression and other physical and mental illnesses. With the stress and pressures put on young people today this modern meditation provides a simple tool which is accessible and can be used lifelong. Whilst their aim is directed at young people up to 25 years of age, it is still applicable for people of all ages. After our session with Kay it was possible to see the benefits in promoting this to our stu-dents and anyone else who may be interested. Please refer to their website for further information: http://smilingmind.com.au/ Working Bee The working bee on Saturday, 1st August enabled gravel to be spread in the car park, repairs made to the picnic benches and graffiti to be removed. In addition to this we also had our second hand uniform shop open. Many thanks to the parents and students who attended to help make these improvements and for helping in the uniform shop. Course Counselling The last of the course counselling has occurred in weeks three and four for Year 10 students moving into Year 11. If any student in Year 10 or 11 has been absent and has not yet had a counselling session, they should see one of our Careers Coordinators to arrange a session. Have a great week.

The Australian Shakespeare Company Visits the College.
On Tuesday 21st July and Monday 27th July, English students in Year 10 and 11 were treated to a visit from
actors who work for the Australian Shakespeare Company, a respected and popular Shakespeare perfor-
mance ensemble that regularly tours the nation. Year 11 students saw a performance of Macbeth and
Year 10 students saw the ever popular Romeo and Juliet. Both performances were interactive, and sever-
al students were lucky enough to try their hand at performing the words of the Bard on stage! The actors
also provided a detailed commentary which gave insight into the acting process and the different ways in
which Shakespeare’s works have been performed. The English Faculty would like to take this opportunity
to thank the Australian Shakespeare Company for their visit to the College. Some photos of the perfor-
mances (including cameos from our own students!) are below.

Sport News - TEAM SUCCESS
We have had a great fortnight with our continuing success in Sport at Greensborough College. On Mon-day 3rd August we had the Intermediate Boys and Girls Basketball, Table Tennis and Futsal teams repre-sent us at the Banyule Division games. We won through to the next round in Boys Basketball and Girls Futsal. All other teams performed really well and upheld the Greensborough tradition of giving our best and being great sport’s participants. Tuesday 4th August was another busy sports day with the Senior Boys and Girls Basketball teams com-peting in the Northern Metro Region Finals. Both teams excelled, winning on the day and are now repre-senting Greensborough College and NMR at State Finals in September. Fantastic work everyone. Our Junior Girls Football (AFL) team also played on the 4th August and were narrowly defeated. All the girls put in a super effort and were close to winning the match one girl short. All the girls and their sup-port team have put in a great effort to progress to this level. Congratulations. Coming up this Monday we have the Year 8 Boys Soccer team representing us at the NMR finals. We wish all the boys great success. Lastly, a big thanks to our terrific sport coaches who we couldn’t participate without. Thank you Mr Ting, Mrs Biviano, Ms Gramm, Mr Priest, Mr Hay, Mr Meager, Mr Conway and Mrs Daley.

Open days at Tertiary Institutions such as Universities and TAFE Colleges occur throughout the month of August.
It is a perfect opportunity for students to visit the Campus they may wish to study at and to find out firsthand
about courses and likely career paths. There is also the opportunity to speak to current students and course rep-
resentatives.
It is important to make the time to plan your future; in fact, we encourage not only Year 12 students to attend
Open Days, but also Year 10 & 11 students so they can start planning their future pathways. We have included a
list of Open Days for Universities and TAFE Colleges.
Students who are attending Open Days should check the institutions website beforehand for details about infor-
mation sessions to be held on the day so that they can maximise their experience.
All Year 12 students, who ordered their 2016 VTAC Guide, will receive it soon and in week 5 we will inform them
about the process of applying for courses in 2016.
The VTAC Guide contains all the latest information on applying for courses at TAFE, University and Private Provid-
ers for 2016 and will also be available online at vtac.edu.au.
Year 12 Students will have individual meetings during Term 3 with one of the Careers Team to discuss their plans
and choices for the future. Course preferences through VTAC need to be put in by 30th September 2015. It is
recommended that all students choose some courses through VTAC to keep their options open.
We will guide all Year 12 students through the VTAC process and any other pathways that they are considering.
If you have any queries regarding the process, please contact us.
