Inspirationindeed!OurClubjoinedtheClusterandgavejoyandblessingsto children at the Lingap Center, La Trinidad, Benguet. Likewise, two (2)chosenfamiliesatLucnabBarangay,weregiventheirNewYearbountyastheyearunfolded.Itwasfulfillingtoshareourgiftsandgracestoothers.

AsweenterthesecondsemesterofRY2012-2013term,letuslookbackand seehow farwehavegone in so faras theClubgoals. Essentiallywehave successfully accomplished our target projects rendering service to ourfellowmen. Throughthefive(5)avenuesofservice,wehavereachedcommunitiesmaking a difference in people’s lives. Thiswe have done inpartnershipwithourgenerousanduntiringpartners.ToAboitizandHedcor,to our RCCs, Rotaractors , Interactors and our beloved Rotary Anns, ourheartfelt thanks. Definitely, the continuous and selfless cooperation andsupport of our members, led by the committed members of the Board,madeallthepositiveandmeaningfulresultspossible.Forthis,wearetrulygrateful!!

IthasequivalentsinSpanish,French,German,Italian,Tagalog,andofcourseotherlanguages.Whatthenistheimportanceofsuchashortword?Usuallywelendimportance to much longer words. So why did I use Why? as the topic of this email.Let’sstartwithafewsimplequestionsusingthatquestioningwordWHY.WHY did you join Rotary? WHYdidyoucontinuetoremaininRotary?WHYdoyoufeelRotaryisanimportantorganization?WHYdoyouregularlyattendmeetingsofyourRotaryclub?WHYdoyouplayanactivepartinyourRotaryclub?WHY do provide service to your club/district as an elected officer?WHYdoyouattendyourdistrictseminars,workshops,and conferences? WHYdoyouattendRotaryInternationalconventions?WHY did you volunteer your services or contribute financiallytoRotary?WHY did you recruit other to join your Rotary club?WHYdoyoureadyourRotarypublications?DidyounoticeIsaid“simplequestions”whenaskingyouaboutWHY?OK,Iadmit,noneofthemaresimplequestions,andtheremightbenosingleorcorrectanswertosomeofthem.Aswebegintoend,andthatiscomplexverbiageitself,theyear2012,wemightreflecton WHY we do many of the things we do. WhilealloftheabovequestionsdealwithRotary,wecanask WHY to many of our choices. Some reasons might be based on what was accepted by our parents as good manners,politeness,personalsafety,oracceptablefamilystandards.Laterwelearnedrulesandregulationsthatwereappliedbytheeducationalinstitutionsweattended.Then we learned to abide by those governmental standards and laws. Hopefully those rules were established with logic and not arbitrarily applied? What was implied by my asking WHY to the choices you made. Choices are one of the most important opportunitieswehave.Whilecountrieshavedifferentregulationsintheirgovernment,religions,cultures,allof them avail us of important choices. It is what we do with those choices that decide what type of person we become.Doweinitiateorrespond?Areweproactiveorreactive?Asweend2012,youareinvitedtoreflectonhowyouanswerthequestionspresentedinmyopening.

Lissa Romero de Guia is a former musical theater performer who studied acting in HB Studio in NewYork and enjoyed a ten-year career in Germany and England playing lead roles in Miss Saigon, Josephand the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and RENT. She graduated from theAteneodeManilaUniversitywith a degree in Social Science, and is a Frank LynchSocial Science Awardee. Lissa is a freelance writer who has been published in major broadsheets and Esquire Philippines, Town&Country and EntrepreneurMagazine, and had a stint as editor-in-chief of CAREMagazine. She has authored two books, the firstone a biography of her maternal grandfather Dr. Paulino J.Garcia,whowasSecretaryofHealthunderPresidents RamonMagsaysay and FerdinandMarcos,andappointedfirstChairmanof theNational Scienceand Development Board by President Carlo P. Garcia. A counselor-in-training at Reintegration for Care andWholenessFoundationanda juniorcorporate trainorfor TrainstationManila, she has also done volunteerworkfortheArtofLivingFoundation,providingtraumarelief for the survivors of Typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City. She now lives in Baguio with her husband Kidlat de Guia.

Treats galore!

Themerrymakingandfun,notonlydidthekidshadfun but almost everybody enjoyed and had a blast of a Christmas Party. Sylvanas treats from our newly elected PresidentMarilyn, a Baguiowoven product from ourIncomingPresidentUweandmoremoretreatscomingfrom President Libby. No one went home empty handed. Thank you so much for this Christmas treats!

Thekids,asidefromthetreats,enjoyedsomegames,care of Auditor Bennie Laranang, she orchestratedparlorgames for theyoungones, theirwas the ‘sabitsabit,’ blind fold games andmuchmore. Aud. Benniesure did made a good job on this.

ThepartyisemceedbyIncomingDirectorLaniFabi,who eventoughwas a an impromptu task, did a verywelltask,evenwithhereyesclosed.

After President Libby officially open the Christmasparty,PEUweledanInvocation.

The dinner was catered by Beggang Restaurant, acatering service who also have a restaurant at Burnham SkatingRink.Twolechonwasalsoserved,onecourtesyofPNMarilynand theotherbyAuditorBennie. I say,‘masarap na masarap ang handa’ - Fits for a Christmas Fiesta.Boozewasover-flowingmakinganumberofus,happy.

Thoughtheregistrationstartsat5pm,somestillcamelate.IguessthelatestwasManongJoeyBugayong,butbetterlatethannothingIsay…

Tothatnight,nothingwillbeatPPBennySunga.Hesuccessfully led and conducted the RCB Chorale which he later name RCB Carolers. Accompanied by our Guitar MaestroSirAlex,IPPFlo,PPVeeh,DGELinda,Dir.Cora,Rtn.Lily,PNMarilyn,PPLito,PEUwe,Dir.DavidandI,serenaded everyone with timeless Christmas carols.Songslike‘O!LittleTownofBethlehem’,‘DecktheHalls,’‘PatoresaBelen’,andatagalogclassic ‘PaskonaSintaKo’. Though I can hear PP Mike cheering to make me singasolo,(PPAlfredbackingupPPMike)-Ididhadasolo,Ididthe‘ho-ho-ho’partoftheJingleBells,whichsupposed to be PP Gerard’s part. PP Gerard cannot attendthepartybecausehehavetoattendtoEstelles’sRecital that same night. Anyways, the feed back waspositiveandthechoraledidgreatjob.Forthepurpose


PP Benny Sunga conducted and led the RCB Carollers inspite of an accident that happen to him few days before the party.

TheRCBCarollerswereinspiredbyhisdedication.

The RCB Chorale now named RCB Carollers serenaded the PartywithtimelessChristmasCarols.Theyhavecollecteda

good amount for the TRF.

of theChorale, theyhave collected somePHP19,000plus which is going to the TRF. Thank you to all those who gave their Pamasko - ‘Thank you! thank you! ang babait ninyo! Thank you!’

Kriskringle…kriskringle…kriskringle…allwashappy…theheartwarmingdialogueaseachgavetheirgiftstotheirbaby.RtnJodymighthavementiontohisbaby,PPMike,tostayhappyandkeepontalking.ThekriskringlewasorganizedbyRtn.PamandSec.Baby,pats totheback to both of you.

TheRafflewasalsoabigsuccess,therewaslotsofraffleandeveryonejoinedtheraffle.Mostoftherafflewas donated by our members.

Needless to say, I operated a photo booth for theevent. Thanks to PE Uwe for pushing me to do this.Somesweetposes,somewackyposes,somedoittheirownstyle.Towardstheendof theprogram,everyonegotalittlenaughtybutnotinabadway…andeveryonewashavingfun…’pasingit-singitsacamera’…cheeringsget’s louder and louder.

Flash was everywhere. Everyone cheering and laughing out loudly, did we finish all of the booze?Everyone went home to their own delight, a uniquegathering once more for all of us. No one went home empty handed. All of the rides are so fully packed with giftsandtakehomes.Thisishowweparty!

LastDecember15,2012,TheRotaryClubofBaguioofficially turned over a Water Supply System to theBarangay of Lucnab. Through the initiatives of RotaryCommunity Core (RCC) of the Lucnab, RC Baguiosupported this projected making it possible to supply watertohouses,livelihoodandalsoanurseryschoolatthe premises.

Attending the said turnover were Pres LibbyFernandez, PP Bert Talco,whoboth gave an inspiringtalktothecommunity,Sec.BabyKaur,Rtn.CessApostol,Rtn.LaniFabi,Rtn.PeterWasing,SAAJunBondoc,EICMarcelBadua,&RSLarryApostol.

The community treated the attendees with asumptous meal to which the Rotarians enjoyed with ‘Kamayan’ style.

This is the second year for RC Baguio as sponsors for RCCLudingandtheclubisproudtohaveaveryactiveand industriuos RCC like that of RCC Luding.
