"Is a term with a broad meaning that includes physical posture, readiness, deception, and attitude. Engagement Postures are related to Timing (Hyoshi), Distance (Ma-ai), and Stillness (Tomari); can be used to produce confusion and to deceive; and can be related to the number of opponents you face. Kamae is definitely related to mental status and can even cause an opponent to hesitate or give up attacking." ~ Rick Rowell

'The Japanese term Mushin is a shortened version of the Zen expression "mushin no shin" which translates as "the mind without mind" or "no-mindness." This means a fully awake and aware mind not fixed or occupied by emotion or thought (implying the eyes or any other sensory input also not fixed or occupied on any specific awareness, action or target).'

“Learning the Art of Attention and Focus From a Legendary Samurai Archer, by James Clear: "In the 1920s, a German professor named Eugen Herrigel moved to Japan. He came to teach philosophy at a university a few hours northeast of Tokyo, in a city called Sendai. To deepen his understanding of Japanese culture, Herrigel began training in Kyudo, the Japanese martial art of archery.“

WELCOME TO SCK

Reflecting on a week of balancing “fun and focus”….. Certainly a great way to welcome in a new school year and settle into family routines. Although I must admit, I did find myself trying to be a little too “SUPER” this week and found myself just a tad exhausted at times. So, this week, I’ll be going back to basics.Getting back to basics is something that I like to do whenever I find myself experiencing low energy levels. I look at things that I know will help me increase my energy and that will keep me energised throughout my day. If you think that you could do with a little more energy to get you through your day, you might want to give the following a go.WHAT TO DO: 1. Identify what habits and activities help increase your energy. “Schedule” them into your planner and do it with enthusiasm knowing that when you do these things, you are increasing your energy so that you can get more out of your day. Here are my top energisers that I’ll practice often. Feel welcome to borrow them if they align with your needs and of course identify your top energisers.. 1. Water intake 2. Breathing (Posture-eyes)3. Morning Routine 4. Set intentions before main activities5. and most importantly…. Patience with myselfREFLECT’N’GROW: At the end of your day... Reflect: How did you go? Give yourself a rating 1-10 and consider how you can improve.HABIT BUILDING: A great habit to practice regularly…. invest generously in the one person that can ensure that you get more out of yourself, your relationships and your experiences. “You”.

MARCH 2020

Young Mitchell came into the dojo with one less tooth today, so we figured it was a great opportunity to come together and create a special memory with his mum Annette and SCK's staff member, Debbie.

Love your work Mitchell and all the best at your first karate tournament this Sunday. I can't wait to see you in action.
