Screenkeeps large debrisout of the system.
Bar screen removes smaller
objects and dumps them in the trash.
Peoria’s water comes from surface and groundwater sources. The surface water is treated using conventional treatment technologies, ozone and biologically-active filters. Check out the process…
Preliminary Sedimentation (Pre-Sed) Basin allows larger particles to settle and be removed.
Ozone gas isadded to eliminate odor, improve taste and disinfect the water.
Coagulants are added to bind small particles together,
allowing them to be removed.
The bound particles are rapidly mixed in multiple chambers before the water moves into
two more sedimentation tanks where particles can settle out.
Biologically Active Filters
(BAF) remove the remaining organic
material.
Clean drinking water is stored in giant tanks
all over the city. All you have to do is turn on
the tap!Enjoy!
The dedicated employees of Peoria's Public Works-Utilities Department work hard day and
night to make sure you have the best water when
you want it!

water that enters Peoria’s treatment

THERE ISNO NEW WATER!
Take care of what we have!
The amount of water that evaporates each year and the amount that falls back to the ground are virtually constant, meaning that the amount of water on earth does not change. So if a drought occurs in a specific region, it is not because the world’s rainfall for the year is less, but because the water is falling somewhere else on earth.
Rivers says,“Use the Peoria Reporter app to
report anywater misuse!”
Keep FATS, OILS and GREASE (FOG) from
clogging your drain. Follow these simple steps to help
prevent sewer backups.
Drain and Backwash Pools Legally & Safely When you need to backwash your pool filter or drain the pool, do not drain water into the street, alleyway or other right-of-way. It’s illegal and can kill fish and other creatures that live in our streams and rivers.
If you have to drain a large amount of water - such as emptying the whole pool - put it down the home's sewer clean-out. The clean-out usually is located next to the house at the point closest to the city sewer line and usually outside a bathroom or the kitchen.

Caution: Using a clean-out in the wall is risky and the potential for water backing up into the home is great.

Our annual PlanetPalooza Earth Festival serves as a reminder for all of us to act as if every day is Earth Day! It is our annual effort to renew our commitment to take bold steps to become the most sustainable city! Join us April 21st at Westwing Park for live music, entertain-ment, food and learning.
Living like every day is Earth Day is easy• Reduce, reuse, repurpose and finally recycle! A lot of energy and water goes into
making everyday consumer products. Look for products that require less packaging then, before tossing them out, ask yourself if they can be reused again. Visit www.peoriaaz.gov/ recycling to learn what can be recycled.
• Grocery bags galore! They are given out everywhere for even the smallest items. Refuse the plastic bag or, better yet, bring your own.
• Limit idling. Do you ever think about how much time we spend in vehicles waiting at the drive-thru for fast food or coffee? If there is a long line, consider parking your vehicle and walk-ing inside. You emit less carbon emissions and it’s a good opportunity to stretch your legs.
• Ban the bottle! Be mindful of the amount of energy and water that goes into producing a single bottle of water. Once these single-use plastic bottles get dumped in the landfill, they take a long time to break down. When they finally do, they break down into tiny little micro-plastics that float through the air and into our lungs.
• Educate yourself. Attend one of Peoria’s FREE Sustainable U workshops to learn how to reduce energy and water in your home and increase your savings! Cha-ching!
