Belle Plaine is a charming community nestled in the beautiful Minnesota
River Valley. Located midway between Mankato and the Twin Cities, U. S. Hwy. 169 provides easy access to this scenic area. Belle Plaine is conveniently located in southwest Scott County as a hub for many major thoroughfares.
With a population just under 7,000, Belle Plaine has maintained its cozy, small-town vibe, yet residents are fortunate to benefit from amenities provided by Scott County, which is one of seven metro area counties.
Residents also benefi t from being just a short 40-minute drive into the heart of the Twin Cities, so there’s a l w ay s s o m e t h i n g to d o o n t h e weekends whether it be staying in town for a day of antique shopping or heading to Minneapolis to enjoy a museum or traveling Broadway show.

LOUNGING AROUNDKick back away from the urban bustleBelle Plaine residents enjoy the outdoor swimming pool, a hotel
with an indoor pool, tennis courts, and skating and hockey rinks,
as well as 80 acres of city parks: Deer, Heritage, Veterans, Union,
Prairie, Century, Meadow, Hickory, Chat eld Square, Creekside, Townsend and Community Dog parks.
Blaha Memorial Bird Sanctuary commemorates the location of the original Belle Plaine settlement, where the borough
started along the banks of the Minnesota River. In Court Square Park, the historic Hooper-
Bowler-Hillstrom House, including its innovative-for-its-time two-story outhouse (go gure!), is
a must-see for any local history buff.Founders Park offers a National Register of Historic Places treasure — the Episcopal Church of
the Trans guration — and the burial place of the town’s founding father. Minnesota Valley Wildlife
Refuge connects towns via snowmobile trails and pays tribute to pioneers who lived among the
woods, prairie grasses, Little Rapids and even sand dunes abutting the Minnesota River.

SMALL TOWN THRILLSFind year-round excitement in Belle Plaine
Small-town fun happens during the many festivals in the Belle Plaine area. From BBQ Days and St. Patrick’s Day to the Scott-
Carver Threshers Festival, entertainment options abound. There are multiple medallion hunts and royalty coronations in a year’s time, giving further reason to celebrate with fellow community members.
Those who enjoy paintball, zip lines, bowling, horseback riding, and the Scott County Fair have reasons to visit, as well. Golf the city’s 18-hole course, or the three oth-ers within 10 miles.
Forty minutes from the core of the Twin Cities, Belle Plaine is close enough to the city to enjoy its offer-ings, but far enough away to avoid the traffi c, noise and urban bustle.

The Belle Plaine area boasts two apple orchards, a farmer’s mar-ket in the park, restaurants (including exquisite French dining),
and Minnesota’s largest candy store. Grab an ice cream cone, fresh apple pie and be on your way to taste bud bliss.

A TIME TO GROWSmall town with big city amenities
People move to Belle Plaine for the small-town feel. Government offi cials fi gure that means amenities. The city of Belle Plaine,
as well as the county, has provided some of the best new parks and trails in Minnesota, including Veterans Park, the Tigers’ ballpark, and Blakeley Bluffs Park Reserve, with more developments on the way.
Belle Plaine’s city hall contains a license bureau and is near the post offi ce. A fi ve-member city council makes decisions about what is best for the town. Belle Plaine’s branch of the Scott County Library System is open four days a week.
Like much of Scott County, the town has grown dramatically in recent years, changing the face of Belle Plaine’s lifestyle.

BELLE PLAINE952-873-5553
BELLE PLAINE CITY HALL218 N Meridian St.952-873-5553
Welcome to Belle Plaine! We are very proud of our
community and invite you to visit any time of the year. Belle Plaine is conveniently located midpoint b et we en th e Twin Citie s a n d Mankato on Highway 169 and is approximately 40 miles from either area. With great schools, miles of trails and Minnesota River frontage, a farmers’ market featuring local vendors, parks with playgrounds, good roads, safe neighborhoods and friendly people, Belle Plaine is a terrifi c community to live and play.
Stop by the Farmer’s Market at Court Square Park on Wednesday afternoons during the months of May through October for locally grown produce and fl owers. During the summer and fall months, our community hosts a number of annual festivals including; Bar-B-Q Days in July and the Scenic Byway Half Marathon, Relay & 5K in October.
Bar-B-Q Days is a long standing tradition and one of the greatest town festivals in Minnesota. It’s held the third weekend of July and is a time for families and friends to get together and celebrate. Festivities include carnival rides, beef sandwiches, beer garden with live music, parade, and the queen coronation, ending with a spectacular fireworks display at Tiger Park on Sunday evening. The majority of profits generated by Bar-B-Q Days are donated back to the community.
For those visitors who enjoy activities more physical in nature, the Belle Plaine Scenic Byway Half Marathon, 5K and Kids Run may be what you are looking for. Enjoy the event and the beautiful autumn scener y of the Half Marathon course as it winds along either side of the Minnesota River between Belle Plaine and Blakeley; the last stop on the 287-mile stretch of the Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway.
Belle Plaine offers over 20 city-owned parks, open spaces and recreational areas along with a number of biking and walking trails for you to enjoy while you visit. We’ve recently opened an Archery Park, and for those who enjoy a walk with their canine companion, a seasonal Dog Park was dedicated in 2013. We are also an entry point for the Minnesota Valley Trail, which follows the Minnesota River and offers miles of biking and hiking opportunities.
Our downtown business district is strong and open to new businesses to provide more amenities to enhance our community. Belle Plaine has a progressive city council and profi cient staff, and is poised for commercial and residential growth, making us one of the best-kept secrets in Scott County.
Explore our website at www.belleplainemn.com to learn more about our special community!

As Scott County continues to lead the state in popula-tion growth, progress is evident throughout the community. Over the last several years, Scott Coun-ty has managed to keep its budget in check while still investing in its residents’ future: from the ac-quisition of new parks and green spaces to developing highly suc-cessful transit partnerships (the BlueXpress commuter line and the SmartLink transit cooperative), from the construction of two new mixed-use library facilities to in-stalling a high-tech fi ber optic ring, Scott County is truly committed to its new vision: “Where individuals, families, and businesses thrive.”
Residents are encouraged to
keep current on County news through viewing Board meetings (available online in “real time” and on-demand), visiting the website (www.co.scott.mn.us), tuning in to local government access cable for meeting coverage and other programming, following the coun-ty on Facebook and reading the award-winning resident newslet-ter (The Scott County SCENE). In addition, you can become more directly involved by volunteering with various community groups, serving on a citizen advisory com-mittee, or by attending County board meetings and workshops, which are held on most Tuesdays (please visit the website for up-to-date schedule information).

LOUNGING AROUNDKick back away from the urban bustle
Belle Plaine residents enjoy the outdoor swimming pool, a hotel with an indoor pool, tennis courts, and skating and hockey rinks,
as well as 80 acres of city parks: Deer, Heritage, Veterans, Union, Prairie, Century, Meadow, Hickory, Chatfi eld Square, Creekside, Townsend and Community Dog parks.
Blaha Memorial Bird Sanctuary commemorates the location of the original Belle Plaine settlement, where the borough started along the banks of the Minnesota River. In Court Square Park, the historic Hooper-Bowler-Hillstrom House, including its innovative-for-its-time two-story outhouse (go fi gure!), is a must-see for any local history buff.
Founders Park offers a National Register of Historic Places treasure — the Episcopal Church of the Transfi guration — and the burial place of the town’s founding father. Minnesota Valley Wildlife Refuge connects towns via snowmobile trails and pays tribute to pioneers who lived among the woods, prairie grasses, Little Rapids and even sand dunes abutting the Minnesota River.

GROWING TOGETHERBelle Plaine is ripe with friendship
Residents of Belle Plaine care about helping their neighbors, being together, and building amenities they can all enjoy.
Social events revolve around Belle Plaine high school theater, pops concerts, homecoming, and other school events, while coffee klatches, neighborhood associations, local festivals and meetings of nonprofi t organizations are frequent and well attended. Volunteers take pride in the Belle Plaine Area Food Shelf they run.
There are Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian, Catholic and non-denominational churches in town and worship centers for other religions within a short drive.
Belle Plaine commuters benefi t from a location along High-way 169 with quick access to highways 19, 60 and 169, and proximity to Blue Xpress and SmartLink transit options. New libraries are cropping up throughout the Scott County Library System, including in Belle Plaine. The housing stock is broaden-ing as the city grows, and senior living is readily available for those who want to stay in Belle Plaine for a life cycle.
The Belle Plaine school district considers itself a great place to learn and raise a family, banking on its caring staff, modern facili-ties, safe learning environment and small classes. Holy Family Academy, Our Lady of the Prairie School, and Trinity Lutheran School are private school options.
