Women Of Power Virtual Summit 2013

My career has kinda been a roller-coaster ride, probably a lot like yours.

Today I coach people just like you, bright women, emerging leaders in their career, on exactly how to break through their own limiting beliefs, negotiate for what they deserve, and ask for what they want to create the career they

love and the life they deserve.

And I arrived where I am today by walking in your pumps – or power shoe of choice! I worked in financial services for over 20 years and as a business consultant for more than five. Actually, I was hired into

the financial services industry at my high school graduation (inner gasp at how quickly time flies by). I started work the very next day, and that began my professional schooling.

And, trust me, I got schooled! As a young, enthusiastic female starting out in the male-dominated, financial services industry the challenges I faced were daunting! I often found myself as one of just a few women in a meeting of all men. Or being the youngest person in a room of primarily men.

I had to fight to get my message heard. I was discounted or dismissed by people twice my age. On my first day of work I felt I could conquer the world but as time went on I kinda began believing the

unspoken messages I was receiving – that I couldn’t possibly have something important to say.

Does any of this sound familiar? Over the years, I had to conquer my little part of the world over and over and over. It sucked at the time, but all of these situations were gifts to me. They forced me to find a

way to be noticed, to be heard, to OWN My Room – whatever room I found myself in – and this is what differentiated me from 99% of those around me.

As I started OWNing my rooms and skyrocketing my career success, people noticed – especially my women colleagues who were struggling to move ahead. They started taking me to the side and saying “Kelli, how did

you get another promotion in less than a year and I haven’t gotten one in several years?”“What am I doing wrong? Can you help me?”

I’d give them two or three things to do right away and told them to keep me posted. Virtually every time, in a short amount of time, they were telling me about the advances they were making or the raise they got! I started sharing my OWN Your Room

practices with my colleagues, family, and friends, and when they followed them, they began radiating confidence and power! They started asking for what they wanted and getting it – including earning more money! As I continued to earn more and advance as a business consultant to executives running billion dollar, Fortune 500 companies, I realized that I was happiest when I was helping other women do what I had done – create success that exceeded their wildest imaginations! Not just in work but in life.

AND based on the twists and turns I took, I was shortening their learning curve – so they were getting there fast! That’s when I took a ginormous LEAP of faith! I left my corporate, high-paying, full benefits, consulting job and (GULP) launched my business, Kelli Gilpin International.

Linda Hollander has become known as the “Wealthy Bag Lady”. She is the industry leader in teaching entrepreneurs about corporate sponsorships. She is the author of the #1 best-selling book, Bags to

Riches: 7 Success Secrets for Women in Business.

She is also the founder of the Women’s Small Business Expo and the CEO of Sponsor Concierge.

Her sponsors include Wells Fargo, Epson, Citibank, Fed Ex, American Airlines, Staples, Health Net, Smith Barney, Wal Mart, Bank of America and IBM.

She has over 20 years of experience as a small business owner and she is the only person to be featured in both Entrepreneur and Female Entrepreneur magazine in the same month. She has also been on NBC, CBS, FOX Television, Bloomberg Radio and Remarkable Women. She started out worse than broke. She was buried in debt and couldn’t find a way out of the poverty trap and abusive relationships. But that’s not what really bothered her. It was that she was short and had frizzy hair to boot.

She and her best friend, Sheryl Felice, used their girl-power to the max. They launched a

packaging business which sells custom-printed shopping bags to leading-edge companies.

Her company was formed in 1988. She devised a sales and marketing plan which made the fledgling business profitable in a very short amount of time. As revenues for the company

increased every year, she met entrepreneurial women, understood what motivates them and how she could increase their success. By the way, she is still short with frizzy hair. Hey, some things

you just can’t change.

Disney, Cisco Systems, Mattel, Universal Studios, Nissan, Yamaha, Sony, Revlon, Dunn Edwards Paints, Sanyo, Avery Dennison, Columbia Tri Star, CBS, City of Hope, Union Bank, ASCAP, Kaiser Permanente, IBM, Variety, Ocean Spray, Sears and Infiniti are some of her sponsors and clients. Her passions are business, sponsorships, marketing, promotion and packaging (she is a “Bag Lady”, after all). Linda Hollander owes her success to the wonderful people in her life: Her parents, Bob and Blossom Hollander, Rhoda and Howard Goldie, and her best friend, Sheryl Felice. She lives in Los Angeles, California with her husband, Leslie Greenfield, and their two cats, Carmella and Sneakers.

I’m an artist. I paint—with words.

And I’m a writer.

I write for supernovas and star ‘preneurs. I write for women (and some bold, switched-on men.) I write for love. I write for the love of it.

I’m spontaneous, adventurous (whoa, baby) and I’m versatile.

I can dial your words in or let them run riot. I adore stripping out the stuffing from stuffy prose and liberating your inner voice so you can say exactly what it is you need to say.

I believe that writing is an art and that copywriters artists are the future. I believe that writing is messy and chaotic and—as Ernest Hemingway once said—there’s nothing to it. You just sit down and bleed.

I believe in freedom of choice. I believe in wearing heels at every opportunity. I believe in leaving your hometown and moving half way across the world if you feel called to do that (I did that.) I believe that LOVE is everything, dammit.

I stand for doing it all on your own two feet. In never giving up. For being who you say you are. For being impossible to ignore. And for doing things your way.

I stand for love. For passion and compassion in equal measure. For big ideas. For courage. For laughing ‘til your face aches, toes in the sand and necklaces to your navel. For home (it’s where my heart is.)

I’ve been a lover AND a Muay-Thai fighter. And I spent a decade earning my chops juggling marketing strategy either side of the Atlantic. I’ve been heartbroken, heart open, and everywhere in between.

I read—a lot. I usually overdress. I travel—wherever an airline ticket will take me. I’ve backpacked from the South to the North of Vietnam, traveled to cities as diverse as Vegas, Budapest, and Bangkok—and moved my entire existence from the U.K. to the U.S. in three small suitcases four five short years ago.

I’ve been touted as “THE Copywriting Artist to Watch” by whip-cracking business confidence expert Erika Lyremark, received high praise from a multitude of entrepreneurial mavens, and been hailed as a force of nature and a rising superstar.

I’m officially in love with my Schnoodle, Samson, and I believe that, if your dreams don’t scare you they’re simply not big enough.
