rich curricular and co-curricular performing arts programs.The Performing Arts program produces over 30 major music concerts and theatre productions over the course of the year,providing the opportunity for students of all ageas to perform onone of three stages in instrumental, vocal and drama ensembles.

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe - Elementary School Grade 4 PlayMay 9 & 10

The Elementary School 4th grade students this year will be opening the wardrobe door and leading us on a spectacular journey into the magical world of Narnia. Accompanying us on the journey will be our old friends Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy as well as a myriad of forest creatures. The White myriad of forest creatures. The White Witch, the “queen” of Narnia will be waiting for us there  as well as the beloved Aslan, the King of Narnia. Bring the whole family and joinus on this magical journey!

The Performing Arts Department is proud to be able to provide music opportunitiesThe Performing Arts Department is proud to be able to provide music opportunitiesfor the whole SFS community to participate in. The SFS Community Groups, whichinclude Community Band, Community Orchestra, and Psalms Choir, are availableon Monday evenings from 5pm to 7pm on the third floor music wing of the Lyso Centerfor the Performing Arts. All three groups are open to students, parents, and faculty, andperform at the High School concerts throughout the year.

APAC & KAIAC opportunities

Seoul Foreign School is a member of the Asia Pacific Activities Conference, as well asSeoul Foreign School is a member of the Asia Pacific Activities Conference, as well asthe Korean American Interscholastic Activities Conference. As such, performing artsstudents are able to participate in local and international arts festivals for band, choir,orchestra and theatre. This year, in addition to local festivals, select students will be travelling to China (orchestra), Hong Kong (band), and Vietnam (Choir), while SFS will be hosting the regional APAC Theatre Festival.W

Welcome to the 2012 - 2013 Performing Arts Season. It is a pleasure to introduce you to this school year’s performances. The Performing Arts Department was thrilled to present special programming during our Centennial Year, providing musicians and actors for very important events, and ending with the Gala Centennial Concert.  NoConcert.  Now, we are looking forward to year 101! Involvement in performing arts is an integral part of a student’s life. Learning music, memorizing lines and actions in a play, placing yourself in front of a crowd to perform; these are important life skills that build confidence and demand that we use different parts of our brains.At SFS, each division presents dramatic productions and concertsinvolving almost all students in the entire school.involving almost all students in the entire school. I am thrilled to be an active spectator for all of these performances. I am so proud of the quality, the level of enthusiasm and of professionalism shown by the students on stage and during preparations. I am humbled to work with such capable teachers and witness their influence as they shapethe lives of our students.  We have more than thirty events on our calendar this year. Our five major dramatic productions have a ticket cost of 5000 won and all othersare free admission. The Performing Arts is truly a center of excellence at Seoul Foreign School. The Last Days of Judas Iscariot - High School Fall PlayOctober 18 ~ 20Unlike conventional courtroom dramas, the setting of this year’s ambitious high schoolfall play, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot by Stephen Adly Guirgis, is somewhere betweenHeaven and Hell as one of the most infamous characters in history, Judas Iscariot, is puton trial for betrayal. on trial for betrayal. Witnesses include Sigmund Freud, Mother Theresa, Pontius Pilateand more. Philosophy, comedy, paradox of faith, and humanity come head to head in thisexploration of what has been described as “an ambitious, complicated and often laugh outloud religious debate.” Panel discussions will also follow performances for all who areinterested.

High School IB Theatre Year 2 PlayOctober 31 & November 1The High School IB Theatre The High School IB Theatre Year 2 students will be presenting an original andinnovative performance in the Lyso Center Blackbox Theatre. The performance will bewritten, directed, and performed by the students based on their IB Theatre studies andphysical theatre workshops with guest artist, Mark Hill.

Fame! Jr. - Middle School MusicalMarch 15 & 16Fame! Jr., developed by David De Silva, is an exhilarating musical chosen not only toshowcase the unique talents and personalities of the Middle School students, but also showcase the unique talents and personalities of the Middle School students, but also to exemplify and celebrate the diversity that makes us truly international. Like the NewYork High School of Performing Arts’ students, the MS students bring together a wealth of culture, tradition, backgrounds, arts, stories and personal experiences into an exciting and high-energy hub. Such a hub, however, cannot possibly exist free of clashes and struggles. The message of Fame! Jr. is universaly clear: facing challenges and embracing differences will make you stronger. The characters and actors alike will inevitably rediscover themselves as individuals, friends, students and artists in this fun and upbeat musical journeas individuals, friends, students and artists in this fun and upbeat musical journey.

British School Keystage 1 PlayApril 12April 12There are no better storytellers than children, and there is no better way for a messageto be shared than through beautiful little voices, dancing feet, colorful costumes andjoyful smiles. The British School Keystage 1 will delight its audience again this yearwith a children’s musical highlighting the students’ many talents.

Pajama Game - High School MusicalApril 19 & 20ItIt’s the 1950’s. The workplace is the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory. Conditions are anythingbut peaceful as sparks are flying between the new superintendent, Sid Sorokin, and the leader of the union grievance committee, Babe Williams. Workers go on strike, labor andmanagement go head to head and the battle of the sexes begins! The High School presentsPajama Game, written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, a performance filled with comedyromance, and popular songs and dances including those made famous by Harry ConnickJr. entitled “Hey There” and “Hernando’s Hideaway”. Described as “bright, brassy, andunconventional”, unconventional”, The Pajama Game will be a musical for the whole family to enjoy!

High School APAC Theatre FestivalFebruary 28 ~ March 2The Performing Arts Department is hosting the annual APAC Theatre Festival this year.During this week, students from six international schools in Asia will gather in Seoul onthe SFS campus to explore the Korean artistic culture and elements of theatricalthe SFS campus to explore the Korean artistic culture and elements of theatricalperformance. Two performances will be offered to the public during this 4-day event,including a showcase of ten-minute plays performed by each individual school and a culminating performance presented by the collective group of theatre students. Artistsin residence will be leading the festival, including physical theatre performer, choreographer and teacher, Mark Hill.

A Musical Tale of Ancient Civilizations - British School Keystage 2 MusicalNovember 15 & 16Travel with the British School Keystage 2 beyond the walls of the classroom and thepages of the textbook to bring history to life! Dig It! A Musical Tale of Ancient Civilization,by John Jacobson, transforms the students into explorers, historians, mummies, soldiers,emperors and many more infamous characters as they dig up the archeological mysteriesemperors and many more infamous characters as they dig up the archeological mysteriesof the past. Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, The Far East and a glimpse into thefuture keep inquisitive archeologists, Taki and Tut, busy as they lead the Key Stage 2students and audiences on an adventure of discovery and exploration.
