soccer student-athlete at Shattuck-St. Mary’s studies

hard and plays hard. It is this very combination of rigorous

college-prep academics and exceptional soccer development

that sets Shattuck-St. Mary’s apart from other schools and

programs. At the heart of the School, is the belief that we are

preparing young men and women for life beyond high school.

This preparation is first and foremost – academic. The vast

majority of our graduates are consistently admitted to their

first-choice college choices. Once at college, our graduates

report that they are exceedingly well-prepared academically.

When it comes to soccer, our young program is producing

great results with a number of placements to exceptional

colleges. Soccer passion fueled at SSM continues into the

college years and beyond.

Founded in 1858, Shattuck-St. Mary’s is one of the oldest

college preparatory schools in the Midwest. In 2009-10, our

437 students come from 36 states and 20 countries. With an

average class size of 12, and a student to teacher ratio of

9 to 1, our primary goal is to prepare each student not just

for college but for a confident life beyond our doors.

We seek students of above-average ability and achievement

who are eager to take full advantage of the School’s academic

program and broad range of extracurricular activities. Students

can apply online at www.s-sm.org. For more information about

College Advising and the Student-Athlete

2

SS tudent-athletes participating in the soccer program at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School have the opportunity to benefit from working with coaches who have anextensive network of collegiate contacts and workingwith college advisors who have significant experienceworking with the full spectrum of colleges anduniversities available in the United States.

Coaches and college advisors work together to helpeach student-athlete develop a potential list of colleges and universities with particular attention paid to the athletic/academic interface. While coaches assist student-athletes in identifying a range of schools appropriate for a young person’s particular skill/talent level, college advisors assist students inidentifying a range of schools appropriate for a young person’s interests and academic preparation. Advisors assist with NCAA Clearinghouse registration, test registration, and application preparation. Our players also benefit from the past college coaching experience of many of our academy coaches as well as their vast network of contacts withinthe collegiate ranks. Working closely together, our coaches and counselors provide each player with the best collegeplacement service possible.

SSM has more than a decade of experience in working with student-athletes who seek to continue their athleticparticipation at the highest level possible during their college years while also pursuing an academic career inpreparation for graduate and/or professional school. We, as an institution, take great pride in providing students with the counsel of skilled professionals who have made working with motivated young people their life’s work.
