KEITH R. TRIBBLE • DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

TThe thread that has bridged together nearly three decades working in and around the collegiate community has been Keith Tribble’s history of building programs with strong founda ons and

dynamic structure.

Since his start as Director of Athle cs and Execu ve Vice President for the University of Central Florida Athle cs Associa on on June 6, 2006, Tribble has quickly taken hold of the program’s blueprints and promised to lead with a principle that everyone associated with the program will also share - to “fi nish.”

In addi on, the other focal point of his concentra on is the oversight of the con-struc on, expansion and comple on of the noted UCF Athle cs Facili es Master Plan. When fi nished, the plan will touch all areas of the student-athletes’ well-be-ing, including residen al housing, academic and mentoring support facili es and state-of-the-art performance venues where UCF fans and supporters can cheer on the Knights. To date, Tribble has overseen $150 million in new construc on and improve-ments to UCF athle c facili es since his arrival.

Through a renewed commitment, Tribble has been most proud of the record academic achievement of the UCF student-athletes during his fi rst two years in Orlando. The Knights, for the third-straight year in 2008-09, placed the highest number of student-athletes on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll with 224 representa ves maintaining a 3.0 grade-point average or be er.

Much of UCF Athle cs went from transi oning into Con-ference USA to compe ng for its tles in just a few short years. The football program has played for two C-USA

tles since 2005, winning the championship and coveted AutoZone Liberty Bowl berth in 2007. In 2007-08, other programs such as women’s soccer and so ball, and members of the women’s track and fi eld team, claimed C-USA tles. In 2008-09, men’s golf reigned over the league, in addi on to a big Conference USA Tournament championship from women’s basketball. Over half of UCF’s programs have competed in NCAA postseason tournaments the past two years.

Successful student-athletes start with top-notch coaching and at UCF the commitment to coaching excellence has been evident. Among Tribble’s transac ons so far has been the renewal of several successful veteran coaches, including Amanda Cromwell (women’s soccer), Renee Luers-Gillispie (so ball), George O’Leary (foot-ball) and Kirk Speraw (men’s basketball).

Addi onally, Tribble was instrumental in the hiring of several new head coaches, including Bryan Cunning-ham (men’s soccer), Todd Dagenais (women’s volleyball), Becky Frost (women’s rowing), Stephanie Nickitas (women’s tennis), Terry Rooney (baseball), Caryl Smith-Gilbert (women’s track and fi eld/cross country) and Joi Williams (women’s basketball).

Tribble a ended the University of Florida where he played off ensive guard for three bowl teams. He gradu-ated in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism (public rela ons and marke ng). Tribble and his wife, Terri, have a daughter, Carlyn, and a son, Kyle.

Keith Tribble is commi ed to the concept of the well-rounded student-athlete, emphasizing the importance of their academic prowess off the fi eld as well as championship results on.

UCF student-athletes receive specifi c academic and athle c informa on at orienta on as well as study skills and me management instruc on throughout the year. More than 50 computers are available for student-athlete’s use any me during the academic year.

During the 2008-09 academic year, UCF placed a league-record 224 student-athletes on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. Student-athletes must maintain a cumula ve grade point average of 3.0 or be er to earn a spot on the honor roll.

Not only did Danielle dos Santos’ cleats need some cleaning a er every goal like the one against Miami above, but her grades helped her be named a NSCAA/adidas Collegiate Scholar All-American.

Jenny Heppert became the fi rst UCF volleyball player to garner ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® honors during the 2008-09 season. The middle blocker graduated with a 4.0 GPA and earned her degree in biology.

From Bright House Networks Stadium to the UCF Arena, UCF student-athletes play and train in top-notch venues. The school’s always growing and improving athle cs complex is part of UCF’s commitment to provide student-athletes with excep onal and modern facili- es. In the past few years, this commitment has assured that the UCF athle cs facili es are not only among the best in Conference USA, but across the na on.

The 45,000-seat Bright House Networks Stadium, the home of the UCF program, shared its debut season on campus in 2007 with another brand new facility - UCF Arena. Home to the Knights’ men’s and women’s basketball programs, the 10,000-seat venue also opened in the fall of 2007. The arena, which also hosts concerts and UCF commencement ceremo-nies, includes luxury boxes and suites, open concourse areas and numerous concession op ons.

Other facili es that have seen upgrades in recent years are Jay Bergman Field – home to the baseball program - and The Venue at UCF, the renovated previous arena which now houses exclusive modern prac ce facili es and offi ces for the men’s and women’s basket-ball programs, as well as an equally-spacious home facility for volleyball. Off campus, two new facili es opened in 2009 - the UCF Intercollegiate Rowing Center and the UCF Golf Prac ce Facility.

UCF’s Facili es Master Plan includes numerous facility enhancements in the coming years, including the planned construc on of a new stadium and entrance structure at the UCF Soccer and Track and the expansion of Jay Bergman Field. The vision for a new academic services center is imminent, one which will provide student-athletes greater access to resources near their new Athle cs Village residences, and further assist their progress towards their degrees and post-graduate success.

When UCF Athle cs completes its Facili es Master Plan during the next decade, every sport and every student-athlete will have received the benefi t of an improved facility to prac ce, train and compete for championships in.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING/SPORTS MEDICINE

SwimEx resistance pools off er a complete isokine c aqua c therapy system - pu ng rehabilita on programs into a new league. Star ng with 0 to 30,000 gallons per minute water fl ow, pa ents in ini al stages of rehab can begin aqua c therapy sooner due to the buoyancy of water. Aqua c therapy treatment can extend into a full range of training and condi oning.

The strength and condi oning program is an integral component of UCF’s 16-sport athle c family. The most visible sign of the Knights’ commitment in this area is an 11,200-square foot weight room located in the middle of the Wayne Densch Sports Center. The state-of-the-art facility contains the fi nest free weight and machine equipment, cardio equipment and tread-mills. UCF also houses a weight room in The Venue, which is u lized by the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball programs. Five cer fi ed strength and condi oning coaches monitor the progress of UCF’s student-athletes.

The UCF sports medicine facili es are fully equipped with the most up to date technology, including a SwimEx aqua c therapy pool, used to aid in advanced rehabilita on of the elite student-athlete. The main athle c training room is located in the Wayne Densch Sports Center with addi onal loca ons at The Venue, Jay Bergman Field, the UCF So ball Complex and the brand-new UCF Intercollegiate Rowing Center. The sports medicine staff consists of six full- me athle c trainers, seven graduate assistant athle c trainers and approximately 60 undergraduate athle c training students.

WELCOME TO ORLANDO

One of the area’s biggest a rac ons is its year-round mild weather. At the heart of the Sunshine State, the region’s average annual temperature is a comfortable 72.4 degrees.

UCF students have easy access to one of the world’s most vibrant ci es – Orlando. Looking for theme parks, a rac ons, museums, world-class shopping, great restaurants, golf courses, jogging trails and nature pre-serves? You can fi nd it all here in Orlando.

Orlando is one of the most popular vaca on des na ons in the world. In 2007, 48.8 million visitors trav-eled to the region. Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Orlando and Sea World are just a short drive away from the UCF campus. The Kennedy Space Center, state parks and sandy beaches off the coast of the Atlan c Ocean are also all nearby.

Orlando is a frequent des na on for today’s top na onal musical acts, who visit popu-lar venues like Hard Rock Live at Universal’s CityWalk and House of Blues, which is located at Downtown Disney. The city’s world-renowned theme parks have added a variety of new entertainment experiences, including Disney’s Cirque de Soleil and Universal’s Blue Man Group performances.

Beyond the theme parks, downtown Orlando features an ever-changing skyline, fi ne dining op ons and a newly developed arts district. Cultural des na ons in the city include the Orlando Museum of Art, the Orange County Regional History Center and Lake Eola Park.

ORLANDO SPORTING OPTIONSWith top-notch events occurring year round, Orlando is a premier des na on for sports fans. The region is home to professional franchises, college football bowl games, world-fa-mous auto races, several professional golf tournaments and much more.

The Orlando Magic of the Na onal Basketball Associa on brought excitement to the city last season with a tremendous run to the NBA Finals. The Magic will open the 2010-11 season in a new arena in downtown Oralndo.

The region’s sports calendar is busy with baseball each spring as Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex hosts the Atlanta Braves for Major League Baseball spring training. The Houston Astros train in nearby Kissimmee and the Washington Na onals prepare for the regular season close to UCF in Viera.

The Florida Citrus Bowl, the former home of UCF football, hosts a pair of college bowl games each winter - the Champs Sports Bowl and the CapitalOne Bowl. The stadium has also been the site of World Cup and Olympic soccer contests. In 2006, the World Baseball Classic held part of its inaugural event in Orlando.

In addi on to UCF athle cs events, the region also fea-tures the most prominent NASCAR race, the Daytona 500. Several other NASCAR races, PGA Tour golf tournaments and numerous ac on sports championships are also held in Central Florida.

CONFERENCE USAConference USA features 12 na onally prominent, tradi on-rich members in East Carolina, Houston, Marshall, Memphis, Rice, SMU, Southern Miss, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, UCF and UTEP, along with soccer affi liate Colorado College. All C-USA ins tu ons sponsor football, along with several other men’s and women’s athle c pro-grams, many which compete regularly for NCAA Championships.

C-USA sponsors compe on in 19 sports – nine for men (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and indoor and outdoor track and fi eld) and 10 for women (basketball, cross country, golf, so ball, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and fi eld and volleyball).

The conference’s footprint is concentrated with 12 members in nine states and a combined area popula on of nearly 17 mil-lion. Along with the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10 and SEC, C-USA is one of the seven conferences having signifi cant representa on in the NCAA governance structure.

C-USA was formed in 1995 and quickly emerged as one of the na on’s top conferences. The league’s charter members included Char-lo e, Cincinna , DePaul, Houston, Louisville, Marque e, Memphis, Saint Louis, Southern Miss, Tulane, UAB and USF. The league’s headquarters were established in Chicago and a er nine years, relocated to the current offi ce in Irving, Texas. Bri on Banowsky was

named commissioner in 2002.

A er celebra ng is 10th anniversary during the 2004-05 season, C-USA began a new chapter the following year when its current membership came together to form the new look of the league.

Behind the play of junior Simon Ward and freshman Blayne Barber, the UCF men’s golf team claimed the 2009 Conference USA Cham-pionship at the RedTail Golf Club. The league tournament champi-onship was the fi rst for the Knights.

Emma Cannon’s 16 points and 15 rebounds led the UCF women’s basketball team past Southern Miss in over me, 65-54, to claim the 2009 Conference USA Women’s Basketball Championship.

Almost as soon as UCF closed its 2008 season in the NCAA Tournament, the Knights started ge ng excited about what was in store for 2009. The Black and Gold easily has one of the most entertaining schedules in the country, return the majority of its starters and welcome another solid recrui ng class into the mix.

With a lot to look forward to, head coach Amanda Cromwell opens her 11th year with the Knights and provides some insight on the 2009 campaign.

CROMWELL Q&A What is the fi rst thing you think of when you start talking about the upcoming season? The fi rst thing I think of is our extremely hard sched-ule. Non-conference we have the defending na onal champion North Carolina, Duke, FSU, South Florida, LSU, South Carolina, FGCU and FIU. There are a lot of quality teams there and the strength of Conference USA from top to bo om is growing tremendously. It will be even more cu hroat this season because there will be only six teams going to the conference tournament (instead of eight). There is a lot at stake each game, especially since the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the standings get a bye going into the tournament. Everyone is going to be fi gh ng to get into the post-season along with trying to fi nish in the top two.

Since the schedule never seems to let up, will it be diffi cult for your players to stay at their highest level from August all of the way to the postseason? We defi nitely don’t want to peak too early in the sea-son but we need to be playing well in August. Early on every team goes through some growing pains and fi gures out where their rookies fi t in. Most teams aren’t playing their best yet in August and September, so we want to capitalize on that. Some mes you can catch teams early that aren’t quite se led yet. Our focus in our preseason is to get things se led, like our forma on, expecta ons, what the players’ roles are going to be, so going forward we can play at a high

level early on. Last year we started at Florida State and Florida, we lost vs. FSU and turned around and beat Florida fi ve days later. We showed that we had the will to win, and it was fun to rebound like that. For non-conference, we can’t have peaks and valleys. We have to be on the rise constantly.

There are a lot of newcomers, and with most starters returning, the only glaring vacancy from the 2008 forwards was the departure of Danielle dos Santos. Who could break through the lineup right away to fi ll that gap?We have a lot of players coming in that could con-tribute to the a ack, especially our two interna on-als. Tiia Tikkanen is a pure forward from Finland, and Bianca Joswiak from Germany is a li le more versa le, she can be in the a ack but played every-where for the German U-20s. Other incomers who will compete to be in the a acking lineup are Tishia Jewell, Amy Carhart, Nicole e Radovcic and Chloe Stokes. From the returning players, Kacie Horner and Amanda Martorana have been ge ng fi t and healthy so they could see some more me up front. We have a core group of very talented a ackers who bring dif-ferent strengths and will fi ll that role by scoring goals and ge ng assists.

Only one starter is lost from the midfi eld (Hanna Wilde) and back (Sarah de Leon) as well, but so much returns. Who might be some of the players that we will see more of this season?Emily Maynard, Amaka Ofuani, Chris na Petrucco, Lauren Halbert and Nikki Moore are the returners who will be seeing a lot of minutes in the back but we have tough and talented rookies Kim Newsome and Stacy Kadell joining us and they will fi ght for a spot as well. Andrea Rodrigues played with the U-20 Brazilian Team at le back so that will be a posi on she fi ghts for, Carhart could be a dangerous a acking outside back and center back op ons are Jus ne Quick and Kristen Poulton.

Halbert will also play in the defensive-mid along with ball-winner Stacie Hubbard. Our mainstays in midfi eld are Becca Thomas, our workhorse, Ka e Jackson and Brianna Schooley. Martorana is a speedy outside-midfi eld op on and rookie Marleigh Howard is a skillful player who can send in a great cross. Other newcomers who will compete for me in the a ack-ing midfi eld are skillful playmakers Alex Brandt and Stokes.

Goalkeeper Aline Reis is coming off an All-America season. It’s hard to achieve that two years in a row, so how do you think she will respond as a sopho-more?Considering Aline was in Brazil’s full na onal team camp this summer, we have no doubt that she will be ready to repeat her All-American performance. Her consistency in college is going to help her get a spot on the Brazilian team and I think she knows that. Lynzee Lee, though, was in goal all spring and played extremely well and she is one of our fi est players who has been working hard to get ready for 2009. We are very lucky to have two high level goalkeep-ers and they both know they have to be ready when called upon.

Nikki Moore has been selected to an All-C-USA postseason team all three years.

Head coach - 11th season with the KnightsIt is very diffi cult to describe the UCF women’s soccer pro-gram in one sentence. With head coach Amanda Cromwell con nuously pu ng the Knights on the na onal stage, one needs to use terms such as NCAA Tournaments, conference championships, top-25 rankings and All-Americans just to get a start on what this program is all about.

Team Success Since taking over the helm of UCF women’s soccer in 1999, Cromwell has guided her team to a 141-63-14 record, seven NCAA Tournaments, four Atlan c Sun Tournament champi-onships and two Conference USA regular-season tles.

The Knights have capped off the last eight seasons ranked among the top squads in the Southeast Region by Soccer-Buzz.com, including a No. 7 ranking in 2003 and 2004 and a No. 9 ranking in 2007. In 2008 alone, UCF spent seven weeks in the na onal polls and achieved its highest Southeast Re-gion ranking in program history when it was fi h in October.

Individual Honors In addi on to her accomplishments as head coach, Cromwell also has helped her players excel individually both on and off the fi eld. During her tenure, Knights have earned 64 all-conference honors and 24 Na onal Soccer Coaches Associa- on of America (NSCAA) All-Region selec ons. In 2008, she helped Aline Reis develop into UCF’s fi rst All-American since 1995, as Reis was one of just three freshmen on either the fi rst or second team.

Meanwhile, Courtney Baines (2004 and 2005) and Jennifer Manis (2007) both received conference defensive player of the year honors, Danielle dos Santos was the 2007 C-USA Newcomer of the Year, Jennifer Montgomery was named 2002 A-Sun Freshman of the Year and Michelle Anderson earned 2001 A-Sun Player of the Year recogni on.

In the classroom, Cromwell’s student-athletes have collected 203 conference academic awards. In 2005, Baines received ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America honors and the C-USA Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete Award. Dos Santos later would become the sixth player in UCF history to earn NSCAA/adidas Women’s Collegiate Scholar All-America hon-ors in 2008, joining former Cromwell protégés Baines, Jen-nifer Manis, Jackie VanLooven and Allison Blagriff .

Year-By-Year Highlights Cromwell and the Knights put together a grueling schedule for 2008, and the results did not disappoint. UCF completed the year at 14-6-3, and went 5-2-1 in a non-conference slate that included four ranked teams. That, along with a 7-2-2 mark in C-USA, helped the it secure an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament, where it topped Miami to reach at least the second round for the eighth me in school history.

UCF fi nished 2008 by ranking fi rst in All-C-USA Team selec- ons, with Becca Thomas and Nikki Moore leading the way as members of the fi rst team.

The 2007 season gave the Knights yet another ring, as the Knights claimed a share of the C-USA regular-season tle and fi nished 15-4-4. UCF went on to earn an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament, where it defeated Auburn and played No. 6 Florida to a 0-0 draw in the second round. The Black and Gold completed 2007 ranked No. 20 in the fi nal RPI poll and No. 30 in the Soccer Buzz na onal rankings.

Individually, Jennifer Manis, Hanna Wilde and Moore all earned a spot on the 2007 All-C-USA First Team, and Manis and Kate Begley were on the C-USA All-Academic Team.

During its sophomore campaign in C-USA in 2006, UCF posted a record of 11-6-2, including wins over No. 9 Rice and No. 15 SMU. Five Knights were named to the all-conference teams as Roberta Pelarigo and Becca Thomas grabbed fi rst-team honors and goalkeeper Jennifer Manis received a spot on the C-USA All-Academic Team. Both Pelarigo and Manis also were tapped for NSCAA All-Southeast Region accolades.

The Knights enjoyed tremendous success in their inaugural season in C-USA in 2005. They posted a 12-10 mark and an 8-1 record in conference play to earn a share of the regular season championship. The season also marked a milestone in Cromwell’s career with the Black and Gold as she won her 100th match as the Knights’ mentor, taking a 2-1 win against Houston on Oct. 30.

During the team’s fi nal year in the Atlan c Sun, the Knights went 17-4-2 overall and were a perfect 9-0 against teams from the state of Florida, including wins over No. 14 Florida State and No. 10 Florida. They were 8-2 in league play as they picked up the A-Sun’s fi rst ever at-large bid to the NCAA Tour-nament, where they defeated Florida, 3-2, in the fi rst round before falling to Boston College, 2-1, in the second round.

Cromwell led UCF to a 16-5-1 record in 2003 as the team won the A-Sun Tournament crown for the third-consecu ve sea-son. The Black and Gold advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where Florida topped the Knights, 3-2, in double over me in the fi rst round.
