TRANSFORMING LIVES THROUGH CHANGE

Over the past five years, the composition of the faculty in the College of Education and Human Development has changed dramatically. Our new faculty join a dynamic and diverse community of scholars with significant disciplinary expertise. Today, we have a total of 122 tenured and tenure-track faculty, of which 55 have been hired in the last five years. It is important to note that 1/3 of our tenured and tenure-track faculty are faculty of color. We also have had significant growth in our number of clinical faculty; approximately 14 of our 38 clinical faculty have been hired since fall 2004, and there have been a number of new lecturers hired this year.

This year, our 11 new faculty come to us from across the nation. These faculty will enhance our work in a variety of disciplines, including human resource development, dance, sport management, special education, reading education, applied exercise physiology, health education and higher education administration. We are excited about their future contributions to our academic community and to their fields.

TABITHA ANDERSONLecturer, Educational Administration and Human Resource Development

Having previously served as program manager of continuing education for Allied Health Occupations at Kingwood College, Tabitha Anderson specializes in workforce education and human resource training and development. She also has facilitated the Human Performance Improvement Certificate Program for the American Society for Training & Development. A lifetime member of The National Scholars Honor Society, Anderson instructs others on the current policies and practices in human resource development.

She received her bachelor’s from Indiana State University, her master’s from Texas A&M University and her doctorate from The Pennsylvania State University.

KATHLEEN BYRNELecturer, Health and Kinesiology

Kathleen Byrne brings years of experience in the field of ballet to Texas A&M University. She taught courses in ballet and created compositions while at Florida State University. Byrne was also a principal dancer for the New York Theatre Ballet.

She received her bachelor’s from the University of Utah and her master’s from Florida State University.

AKILAH CARTERAssistant Professor of Sport Management, Health and Kinesiology

With research interests that include the cultural diversity of sports, Akilah Carter is passionate about kinesiology. Carter has been employed as a coach, an instructor and an assistant director of sports programs. She has led many sports-related conventions and lectures and is on the committee for the National Association for Girls and Women in Sports.

Carter received her bachelor’s from the University of Houston and her master’s and doctorate from the University of Georgia.

CHARLES FARNSWORTHClinical Assistant Professor of Human Resource Development,Educational Administration and Human Resource Development

Charles C. Farnsworth has made many contributions in regards to curriculum and instruction during his professional career at Texas A&M University. Having previously served as the coordinator of instructional design and distance education for the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Farnsworth has had the opportunity to write for numerous grants, publications and workshops as well as Web sites, computer–aided instruction, instructional videos and television programs.

He received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from Texas A&M University.

JENNIFER GANZAssociate Professor of Special Education, Educational Psychology

Specializing in elementary and special education, Jennifer Ganz brings more than 13 years of experience in the field with her to Texas A&M University. She was previously employed by the University of Texas at San Antonio as an associate professor of special education. She conducts research and publishes in the area of social skill and communication interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders, is a board certified behavior analyst, and is a consulting editor for several autism and augmentative communication-related journals.

Ganz received her bachelor’s and master’s from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and her doctorate from the University of Kansas.

LORI GRAHAMClinical Assistant Professor of Reading Education, Teaching, Learning and Culture

Lori Graham has had extensive teaching and administrative experience, both as a teacher with the Port Neches-Groves Independent School District and as an assistant professor with Lamar University in Beaumont. Her research interests lie in teacher education and literacy development in students, and she has assisted in three publications and many presentations regarding her area of research.

Graham received her bachelor’s and master’s from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and her doctorate from Texas A&M University.

SHANE HUDSONClinical Assistant Professor of Sport Management, Health and Kinesiology

A recent graduate of Texas A&M University, Shane Hudson has experience as coordinator and lecturer in the division of sport management. Hudson’s area of expertise is performance and organizational development in sports, with the focal point of his work intercollegiate athletics and student athletes.

Hudson received his bachelor’s and master’s from Oklahoma State University and his doctorate from Texas A&M University.

PAUL KEIPERClinical Assistant Professor of Sport Management, Health and Kinesiology

Paul Keiper’s research interests lie in leadership and its impact on organizational culture. He has more than 18 years experience as an instructor, athletic director, assistant principal and a coach. He is a member of the North American Society for Sport Management and has presented at several seminars on leadership and sport management.

Keiper received his bachelor’s from Concordia University Wisconsin, his master’s from Northwestern State University in Louisiana and his doctorate from Texas A&M University.

RICHARD KREIDERProfessor, Health and Kinesiology

Richard Kreider comes to Texas A&M University with more than 24 years of experience in applied exercise physiology. Previously employed as a professor at Baylor University, Kreider was the Director of the Exercise & Sport Nutrition Lab, which he brought with him to Texas A&M in his new role as professor and head of the Department of Health and Kinesiology. He has had several articles published in Sports Medicine and many other specialty fitness and science magazines and journals in the nation. Major corporations such as Reebok have sought him for consultation services, and he serves as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Sport Nutrition.

Kreider received his bachelor’s from Liberty University in Virginia and his master’s and doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi.

DAVE LOUISLecturer, Educational Administration and Human Resource Development

Dave Louis’ passion has always been the development and success of students at any level of the educational ladder. In addition to his teaching duties as a lecturer, Louis serves as the director of the Marilyn Kent Byrne Student Success Center, which allows him to continue his journey as an educator and encompass his passion for student success. Prior to his coming to the college, Louis served as senior program director for the Memorial Student Center, working with students on the Fall Leadership Conference, Spring Leadership Trip, L.T. Jordan Institute for International Awareness and Woodson Black Awareness Committee.

A native of Trinidad and Tobago, he earned his bachelor’s from Morehouse College in Georgia, master’s from Harvard University and doctorate from Texas A&M University.

MICHAEL STELLEFSONLecturer, Health and Kinesiology

A current Ph.D. candidate at Texas A&M University, Michael Stellefson is finishing his dissertation project, funded through a Health Services Research Dissertation Grant (R36) from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. He has published numerous health education articles and was honored as the 2006 Outstanding Doctoral Student in the Division of Health Education.

Stellefson received his bachelor’s from the University of Pittsburgh and his master’s from Texas A&M University. He is expected to receive his doctorate from Texas A&M in fall 2008.
