PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Foundation in science is a 12-month programme conducted in 3semesters.Eachsemesterconsistsof14weeksoflectures,tutorials,lab-works,andvisits.Studentsneedtoaccomplishminimum50credithourstocompletetheprogramme.

Theprogrammehastwostreams(LifeSciencesandPhysicalSciences) for students to choose. Subjects are customiseddependingontheselectionofcareerpathway.

INTRODUCTION

TheFacultyofScienceandBiotechnologywasestablishedin November 2010 and warmly known as FaSBio. Itwas previously a join together of Faculty of Scienceand Environmental Technology (2010) with Faculty of BiotechnologyandLifeSciences(2003).

The foundation of this faculty is inspired by the dean, Prof. Dr. Mohd Kushairi Mohd Rajuddin. The Faculty of Science and Biotechnology (FaSBio) is located in the Bestari Jaya Campus. It is strategically located within a mere walking distance to the mosque, a three-storey library and student residential areas. It is also well equipped with 41 science and computer laboratories to create a more fascinating teaching-and-learning process besides offering a hands-on experience.

The faculty boasts an exceptional and experienced academic team led by the dean, Prof. Dr. Mohd Kushairi bin Mohd Rajuddin. The faculty aspires to be the centre of research excellence in addition to being an academic hub.

INTRODUCTION

This program prepares students to advance their careers in the industry, research and development and teaching, as well as pursue a PhD. Graduates of this program will be skilled at conducting independent research.

The objective of this program is in line with the Malaysian government’s aim to spur industrial research and development activities.

Through the program, students will be able to demonstrate their ability, under supervision, to apply relevant research techniques to their chosen field of study.

Overall, biotechnology postgraduates can embark into their careers in the medical, health, food and beverage, wine, agricultural, chemical and environmental industries or into any Biotechnology-related PhD programme or be entrepreneurs upon completion of this programme.
