2003: Due to USC’s deep roster, Melissa Esmero was No. 7 in the 2003 singles lineup and made 12 appearances at No. 6... She primarily played doubles during the dual match season

at No. 3 with partner Carine Vermeulen... Posted a 15-8 overall singles record, 10-3 mark in dual matches and went 2-2 in the Pac-10... Compiled a 26-13 overall doubles record, including a 15-8 mark with Vermeulen... Also played doubles match-es with Bernadette Bayani (6-3) and Maureen Diaz (5-2)... 2003: Vermeulen joined the team in January of 2003 and proved to be a valuable asset for the Trojans throughout the dual match season... She compiled the team’s best singles and doubles record... Only played dual matches (did not compete at any tournaments) at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles... Finished with a 19-3 overall singles record and 4-1 mark in the Pac-10... Only dropped two singles matches throughout the season and posted 13 consecutive victories in February and March... Suffered a groin injury on April 4 against Stanford (but still won her match that day against the Cardinal's Story Tweedie-Yates) that kept her out of the lineup for four of the team’s fi nal fi ve matches... In the NCAAs, she won her singles matches against Sacramento State and Kansas State... With partner Melissa Esmero, she went 15-8 overall in doubles and 2-3 in the Pac-10...
