MSU Earns Sixth NCAA Tournament Bid; Second StraightMississippi State’s women’s ten nis team, currently ranked 21st nation-

ally with a 17-8 overall record, received its second consecutive NCAA bid this season after ending a 10-year postseason drought in 2015.

MSU’s appearance in this year’s NCAA Team Championship marks the sixth appearance overall in the NCAAs for the program, and the team's sec-ond postseason bid under seventh-year head coach Daryl Greenan.

State enters the NCAA Championship with 17 dual match victories, the second-most triumphs in school history and most since 1986.

State Faces Virginia Tech To Open 2016 NCAAs When the Bulldogs travel to Lubbock, Texas, they will start play against the No. 34 Virginia Tech Hokies on Friday May 13, at 2 p.m. CT, with the win-ner advancing to play either No. 16 Texas Tech or Boston University in Saturday's second round at 4 p.m. CT. Virginia Tech, the 17-32 seed in the region, finished the regular season at 14-10. Notable wins for the Hokies this season include upsets of No. 6 Duke and No. 16 Georgia Tech, both in Blacksburg. VT is in the tournament for the seventh time in program history and is making its first-ever, back-to-back appearances. The first-round NCAA matchup will mark the first-ever between Mississippi State and Virginia Tech in women's tennis.

MSU vs. Texas Tech/Boston University Should State claim victory in its match with Virginia Tech, MSU would then meet either No. 16 Texas Tech (23-5) or Boston University (12-8) on Saturday, May 14, at 4 p.m. CT for the right to advance to the NCAA round of 16 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on May 19. Texas Tech, the No. 16 seed nationally and top seed in the region, is hosting the NCAA 1st & 2nd Rounds for the third time in the last four seasons and advanced to the title match in the Big 12 Championship for the second year in a row. The Red Raiders's 23 wins this season are a new single-season school record. TTU ended the season hot, winning six of its last eight con-tests with the only two losses both coming to No. 15 Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Boston U., the 49-64 seed in the region, won the Patriot League for the third-straight season to earn its way into the 2016 NCAA field. It was the Terriers' 25th PL title and they are making their 15th NCAA appearance. MSU has met Texas Tech twice (2006 & 2009) and is 2-0 in those match-ups - the first in Starkville (4-2) and the other in Lubbock (4-3). State and Boston University have never faced off in women's tennis.

Mississippi State’s History In

The NCAA Team

Championship This is the sixth sea son Mis sis sip pi State women's tennis has made the NCAA Team Cham pi on ship field and the second appearance under current head coach Daryl Greenan. MSU holds a 4-5 record in its five prior appearances. The Bulldogs were ranked at No. 56 heading into their initial NCAA show-ing in 1999, de feat ing Pac-10 oppo-nent and 33rd-ranked Washington State 6-0, before falling to third-ranked host Georgia in the second round. State once again qualified for the

Team Championship in 2000. After No. 34 MSU downed No. 53 Oregon 5-0, the Bulldogs were eliminated in the second round, falling to 11th-ranked Arizona State 6-0 in Tempe. In 2001, the Bulldogs (ranked 32nd) again advanced past the first round, defeating 34th-ranked Ohio State in a close 4-3 affair, but dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 4 host Georgia in the second round. The Bulldogs entered the postseason with their highest team ranking in program history in 2005, coming in at No. 26 in the nation. However, the Bulldogs postseason stay was short-lived, as MSU was upset 4-1 by 40th-ranked Pepperdine in the opening round at Georgia Tech. MSU's latest appearance in the tournament came just last year, with the No. 33 Bulldogs reaching the second round for the fourth time in school his-tory. State downed No. 30 Houston 4-2 in the opening round in Berkeley, Calif., before falling 4-0 to third-ranked host Cal in the second.

State Versus The 2016 NCAA FieldDuring the 2016 dual match sea son, 15 of MSU's 25 matches came

against teams that are in the 2016 NCAA Team Championship. Of the 15, they had seven wins (Alcorn State[2], Arkansas[2], Kentucky, LSU and Ole Miss) and eight losses (Auburn, Duke, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt[2]). Seven of the eight losses were to teams that earned one of the tournament's 16 national seeds. Much of the reason for State’s common play with NCAA teams is due to the continued strength of the Southeastern Conference in women's college tennis. This season, the league placed 11 of its 14 teams in the draw.

Bulldogs 21st In Latest Oracle/ITA Rankings Mississippi State’s women’s tennis team is ranked 21st nationally in the latest Oracle/ntercollegiate Tennis Association National Rankings, released May 5. That ties for the second-highest ranking in State history, behind only the 1989 team's No. 20 final ITA ranking. MSU started the 2016 season 29th, and has now been ranked in 30 consecutive ITA polls, and has been within the top 30 the entire '16 spring season. On the individual level, State also set records this spring. On March 8, MSU had a school-best seven different players ranked in either singles or doubles. Currently, four Bulldogs and one doubles team are ranked nation-ally. In singles, Jasmine Lee (13th), Georgiana Patrasc (36th), Anastasia Rentouli (101st) and Madison Harrison (112th) are ranked. In doubles, Harrison teams with two different teammates to form top 40 doubles duos - Harrison and Kristina Vozniak (30th) & Harrison and Patrasc (38th). Lee, who will be named Mississippi State's first-ever ITA Singles All-American as a top 16 seed in the 2016 NCAA Singles Championship, also became the highest-ranked MSU women's player ever in singles twice this spring - No. 9 in the Feb. 10 and March 8 polls.

A Look Back At The 2016 Season... With a team fueled by youth and a touch of veteran experience as well,

the Mississippi State women's tennis squad is heading to its sixth NCAA Team Championship in school history (first back-to-back appearance since 2000-01), as the Bulldogs travel to Lubbock, Texas, for the NCAA First and Second Rounds. The Bulldogs caught some attention with their success on the court this season behind the leadership of head coach Daryl Greenan, posting a 17-8 record (second-most wins in school history) and going 7-6 in the always-tough Southeastern Conference, the most wins MSU has had in the league in program history. State entered the ITA Rankings at No. 29 the very first week the polls came out this spring and have been a mainstay in the Top 30 the entire season. MSU peaked at its current No. 21 spot, which marks the second-highest ranking in MSU women's tennis history. The Bulldogs kicked off the season within the friendly confines of MSU's

A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre, facing off in a Saturday doubleheader that saw State earn a pair of 7-0 and 5-0 shutout victories against Alcorn State. State then turned its attention to the Ivy League Kick Off Weekend, hosted by Duke. Thanks to the clutch play of junior Jasmine Lee and senior Georgiana Patrasc, MSU played competitive tennis, defeating Florida State before suffering a 4-1 defeat to a Duke club that was ranked 16th in the country at the time (now No. 9). It was the Bulldogs' only loss in their first 11 matches of the campaign. MSU rebounded from the setback at Duke to win its next seven match-es, including a neutral site shutout over 41st-ranked DePaul as well as three home wins, with the seventh coming against SEC foe Tennessee to open the 2016 Southeastern Conference slate. MSU would continue its SEC slate with two hard-fought setbacks against top 20 foes in No. 7 Georgia and No. 16 Texas A&M. It was against LSU where the Bulldogs recorded the program's first victory on the road against a top 15 opponent, claiming an exciting 4-3 victory in Baton Rouge. MSU fell in the next three matches, all against top 20 foes - South Carolina, Florida and Auburn. State fell in a close 4-3 decision to the Gamecocks after inclement weather pushed play over two days. The Bulldogs would get back on track as they shutout Alabama to pick up their 12th win of the season. After a tight loss to No. 5 Vanderbilt in Starkville left State at 12-7 overall and 3-6 in the SEC, the Bulldogs went on a record-setting tear through remainder of the league schedule, winning their last four SEC affairs and opening the SEC Championship with a victory as well. To spark the streak, State earned a 4-2 upset over No. 23 Kentucky in Starkville. An exciting 5-2 win over Ole Miss the next Friday followed, mark-ing the first time since 1989 that the Bulldogs had defeated the arch rival Rebels. The Bulldogs would hit the road for their final two regular season con-tests, winning at Missouri 4-1 and No. 29 Arkansas 5-2 to end regular season conference play riding a four-match winning steak. State rallied from drop-ping the doubles point in both meetings for convincing wins. With the No. 7 seed in the SEC Championship and a first-round bye, MSU faced a rematch with 10th-seeded and 29th-ranked Arkansas in the second round, ousting the Razorbacks for the second time in a row, this time by a tally of 4-1. MSU was then eliminated by a still strong, second-seeded and fifth-ranked Vanderbilt squad in the quarterfinals. The year overall has seen State earn the school's best overall record since 1986 at 17-8. Overall, State has upended 12 ranked opponents, includ-ing two top 25 foes, six top 50 squads and four top 75 opponents. Of MSU's eight setbacks in 2016, all of them came to teams currently ranked in the top 20 nationally, five in the current top 10. The Bulldogs will face 34th-ranked Virginia Tech in the first round of the NCAA Championship. Friday’s match will be the first meeting between MSU and the Hokies. State enters the 2016 NCAAs looking to advance past the second round for the first time ever.

nament and, as such, becomes the first MSU women’s tennis player ever to earn ITA All-America honors. She has notched a remarkable 28-11 overall and 16-7 dual match records this year, playing all of her contests at the No. 1 position in State’s lineup. The Khaosiung, Taiwan, native has posted 19 wins against ranked foes, seven in the top 25, and achieved the highest women’s singles ranking ever for MSU at No. 9 earlier this season. Lee was also hon-ored with first-team All-SEC honors for the second year in a row.

The four-year veteran Patrasc sits at 36th nationally with an overall record of 27-7 and an incredible 18-3 dual match record for singles. She posted the best conference record on the team, going 9-2 mainly at the No. 2 position in the ever-tough SEC. During league play, she won eight-consec-utive matches at one point, six coming against top 80 foes. Patrasc earned her third career All-SEC honor last week. She stands third all-time overall at State in total victories, and is now MSU’s all-time leader in singles triumphs.

The 30th-ranked State duo of Harrison and Vozniak has composed a 5-5 record this year, 3-4 at the No. 1 position for the Bulldogs. The pair was able to upset Auburn’s now-8th-ranked Pleun Burgmans and Alizee Michaud in its first outing of the spring slate, and also have two other top 35 wins to their credit.

Lee and Patrasc are the ninth and 10th all-time selections for MSU to the 64-player NCAA Singles draw. Should Harrison and Vozniak be moved into the main draw of NCAA Doubles, they would become State's fifth duo to qualify, the first since 2005.

• Mississippi State holds a 17-8 overall record for the season, while going 7-6 in the Southeastern Conference.

• State opened the season ranked No. 29, and has been No. 21 nationally in the last three ITA polls released entering NCAA competition. The Bulldogs' current No. 21 ranking ties for the second-highest in program history.

• The Bulldogs have been ranked nationally by the ITA in 30 consecutive polls.

• MSU is 13-3 this season when capturing the doubles point.

• The Bulldogs earned their sixth NCAA appearance in program history this season, their second consecutive. It marks the first time since MSU made three-straight appearances from 1999-2001 that State has earned back-to-back NCAA bids.

• MSU is 4-5 in its five prior appearances in the NCAA Team Championship, 4-1 in the first round. The Bulldogs have reached the second round of the NCAA Team Championship in four of their previous five appearances (1999-01, 2015).

• Fifteen of State's 25 matches this season came against opponents which made the 2016 NCAA field. MSU was 7-8 in those 15 contests.

• Jasmine Lee and Georgiana Patrasc's bids to the 2016 NCAA Singles Championship are the third and fourth for the Bulldogs in three years, both play-ers now having qualified for the 64-player draw twice during their careers. As a top 16 seed in this year's tournament, Lee will become State's first-ever singles All-American and only the third to earn the honor in MSU history, joining 1989 NCAA Doubles Champions Jackie Holden and Claire Pollard.

• State finished Southeastern Conference play with a 7-6 record in 2016, marking the most league wins in program history. It was also the team's first winning record in conference play since 1989.

• The Bulldogs finished tied for 6th in the conference (their highest regular season league finish ever) entering the SEC Championship and advanced to the quarterfinals for the second-straight year.

• Jasmine Lee and Georgiana Patrasc both earn All-SEC laurels this season, Lee named to the first team and Patrasc the second. Lee's honor was her second-straight first-team selection while Patrasc earned her third career All-SEC nod.

• State set a school-record with seven different players in the March 8, 2016, Oracle/ITA National Rankings - four in singles and three others in doubles. Jasmine Lee set a school record for an individual singles ranking, climbing to No. 9 in the country twice - 2/10/16 & 3/8/16.

• MSU's current Oracle/ITA National Rankings...Singles... Jasmine Lee (13th), Georgiana Patrasc (36th), Anastasia Rentouli (101st), Madison Harrison (115th)Doubles... Madison Harrison/Kristina Vozniak (30th), Madison Harrison/Georgiana Patrasc (38th)

• Jasmine Lee has qualified in singles for every collegiate major that has been held during her career - five in all, including two NCAA Singles Championships. She won the consolation singles crown at the ITA Riviera/All-American Championships this past fall and also advanced to the quarter-finals of the USTA/ITA National lndoor Championships.

• Ending her career with her best season as a Bulldog, Georgiana Patrasc has vaulted into the MSU record books as she ends her stellar four-year stint at State. She stands No. 1 all-time in career singles wins at MSU (90), third in doubles victories (62), and third in combined triumphs (152).

• Under head coach Daryl Greenan, State has already registered the most single-season wins under his leadership this year with 17. He is one win shy of tying a personal career record of 18 victories in a single campaign as a head coach (18 at Iowa in 2006).

• With the 17 victories in 2016, Greenan has moved into second place all-time in MSU Women's Tennis coaching victories with 69, surpassing Andy Jackson's 68 from 1985-89. He only trails Tracy Lane, who amassed 100 triumphs from 1997-2009.
