The Exceptional Advocate eNewsletter is here!

The Department of Defense Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is pleased to re-

lease the first issue of The Exceptional Advocate, a monthly electronic newsletter for military

families with special needs. Each month you will find articles, resources, tips, and news that

families can use to remain informed on a variety of topics.

It's back to school time again! With this in mind, we've included education-related articles to

assist families with school-aged children. Some of this month's topics include the following:

- How to communicate with teachers when your child has special needs

- An overview of The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

- The school liaison program and how it can help military children

transition between schools

- How installation programs are partnering to meet the fitness needs of

teens and young adults with special needs

Each month we feature activities for children on the "Kids Corner" page

which features the animated characters "Iman Advocate," and his dog,

"Watson." We hope you enjoy this issue and encourage you to share The

Exceptional Advocate via email and social networks to help distribute it to

the families in your community.
