You've probably heard that goldfish are one of the first types of fish to bedomesticated. There is no other way to say this, but the first fish mostaquarists owned, was a goldfish. Simply because they are colorful, inexpensive, social, fun to care for and a great hobby. Now you probablywant one too.

What is really going on is that these wonderful fish are descendants of thePrussian carp, which is a native to the eastern and southeastern part ofAsia and part of the Cyprinidae family. You know, everything about goldfishbegan about one thousand years ago in the Song Era when the ancientChinese started to breed carp. Originally, the carp had scales that weresilver in color before the breeding. After that, there was a color mutation toyellow-orange scales. Yellow was the imperial color.

Did you know that this new colored version of the Carp, known as goldfishtoday was forbidden and could only be kept by royal families? Yes, this isprobably the reason why there are more orange goldfish than yellow onesthese days. Or maybe not.

Goldfish only became popular outside China, in the early 16th century, inJapan. Here, two beautiful varieties were developed: Tosakin and Ryukin.Later, in the 17th century, the goldfish was introduced to the southerncountries of Europe. Finally, in the 1850's it became popular in the UnitedStates. Home of the well known Comet goldfish.

Goldfish species are the only species in the animal kingdom that weremanipulated to give such grotesque and funny appearances. Presently, there are 18 varieties of goldfish, all beautiful and cute. They can be foundin colors like orange, yellow, blue, red, white, black, chocolate, calico or abeautiful mixture of these.

Don't believe me, some think that goldfish actually carry good luck alongwith them. True or not, the Chinese strongly believe in this myth. Oftentimes, when you go into a Chinese restaurant, you will see an aquariumwith goldfish. It's believed to deliver prosperity on the business inside therestaurant. What an amazing fish!

Many of humanity’s earliestsurviving artifacts aremonuments to death. At least500,000 years ago, humanbeings had already developedburial rituals. Many of theworld’s greatest monuments, including the pyramids inEgypt or the gigantic earthenmounds erected by NativeAmericans, are tombs for thedead.

During the 17th and 18th century, the dead were buried in “graveyards,” in“burial places,” or even “bone yards.” Beginning in the 19th century, theterminology shifted. The dead were buried in “cemeteries”—derived fromthe Greek word for “sleeping place.” Early grave yards were located near

the center of communities. Beginning with the construction of Mount Auburncemetery in a rural area near Boston in the early 19th century, the modernrural “park” cemetery appeared. This was a place where the living couldcommune with the dead in a park-like setting. Between the 17th and the

19th century, the images of gravestones underwent a profound change, reflecting profound changes in attitudes toward death. One can trace a shiftfrom a Puritan view, which viewed earthly existence with contempt andemphasized resignation in the face of death, to a Romantic view, whichstressed hope for immortality and reunion of families in heaven along withthe importance of grieving.

The Puritans, unlike many otherreligious groups, did not bury thedead near their meeting houses. ThePuritans attached no spiritualsignificance to the body, and did notbelieve it needed to be buried onsacred ground. Further, since thePuritans did not believe that anyperson was assured of divinesalvation, they did not think it wouldbe appropriate to bury the dead

where they worshipped.

Puritans graveyards were often usedas grazing grounds. They did notregard graveyards as spooky orsacred places that evoked fear orhorror.

Contrast Puritan attitudes towarddeath with those that are commontoday.

Artist Spotlight Ms.Jill ScottA mature R&B vocalist who excelled most with slower, sensual material ("Slowly,Surely," "I'm Not Afraid," "My Love") and was versatile enough to pack plenty ofpunch with anthems of pride and self-empowerment ("Golden," "Family Reunion,""Hate on Me"), Jill Scott grew up in north Philadelphia and began her performingcareer reading her own poetry. She was heard by Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson, drummer in the Roots, who invited her to join the band in the studio, resulting inthe co-composition "You Got Me," a 1999 Top 40 pop hit that actually featuredErykah Badu instead of Scott herself. Subsequently, she collaborated with EricBenet, Will Smith, and Common, and broadened her performing experience bytouring Canada in a production of the Broadway musical Rent.

Signed to Steve McKeever's newly formed Hidden Beach label, she released herdebut album, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds, Vol. 1, in July 2000. One ofthe most favorably reviewed R&B albums of the year, the set peaked within theTop 20 of the Billboard 200 chart and reached number two on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Experience: Jill Scott 826+, featuring a lengthy live set on onedisc and studio material (including a soaring collaboration with 4hero) on asecond disc, appeared the following summer and hot on the heels of the "A LongWalk" single. Holy Bible Prophet EzekielWho was the prophet

Ezekiel?

Ezekiel was God's chosenman and messenger. Ezekielproclaimed the Words of Godto the children of God, theIsraelites. Ezekiel was both aprophet and a priest. Ezekielwent into exile with the

Israelites as decreed by KingNebuchadnezzar to the city ofBabylon. Historians andscholars agree that Ezekielwas a highly intelligent man.

Ezekiel denotes a coupledifferent meanings - God isstrong, God strengthens orGod makes hard. Thesenamesakes explain asignificant amount about

Ezekiel because of the calling, anointing, and purpose Godhad for Ezekiel. Ezekielneeded the Lord's strengththroughout all his endeavors.

Ezekiel for the most part did his priestly duties to the best of his abilities. Because theTemple was in Jerusalem, he was not able to perform many of the customary rituals asrequired by a priest because Ezekiel was far removed from the Temple during the exile.

Ezekiel was also a married man. He did indeed proclaim many things of the Lord to thechildren of Israel. God gave Ezekiel visions which he would act out that were symbolic, providing different meanings to the people of Israel. They were specifically meaningful

to the great city of Jerusalem.

Ezekiel proclaimed judgments of the Lord to the Israelites because of various sinrelated issues and the abominable condition of Jerusalem. Ezekiel also proclaimedhope to those Israelites who were in exile. One hard part for Ezekiel involved the

passing away of his wife. He could not mourn for her; God did not want him to. God'spoint in doing this was to be an example of not mourning because of the state of

Jerusalem.

God had Ezekiel proclaim judgments on the cities that surrounded Jerusalem becauseof sin related issues. Ezekiel and his book end with hope, restoration, and redemption

of the Israelites and of God's promised city, Jerusalem.

Ezekiel was God's chosen man. He was obedient to the Lord, and no task was toodifficult for him. The Lord was his strength and He carried him through the hard times.Ezekiel had a relationship with the Lord. Ezekiel the prophet faithfully prophesied orforetold the things of the Lord. He faithfully served the Lord, pointing the way to Christ,

the redeemer of humanity.

Dry potpourri is usually fortified with essentials oils. The wordpotpourri means "rotten pot" in French.

In the 12th century, potpourri was used to freshen rooms in castles forthe people of that time. Spices or herbs were placed in huge cookingcauldrons after the meal tasks of the day had been completed. People thentook these herbs and spices and placed them in containers with lids, moistened them with spirits, and left them to rot. This process created apungent perfume which was released each time the lid was lifted. Flowerswere then placed in handsome bowls and baskets with these fragrant herbsand spices to beautify rooms throughout the castle.

During this era, the convenience of bathing and washing clothing wasnot as accessible, so wooden vessels were constructed to contain these lovelymixtures, and were hung inside of women’s heavy petticoats.

Thanks to growth (and many centuries), we are much more civilizedtoday however these sweet, pungent scents are very much a part of ourexistence.

Modern uses of potpourri and scents have not changed very much.Basically dried flower pedals and or dried vegetation that have a pleasing odorare used to enhance or mask unwanted scents. While today’s intensity andfrequency of objectionable scents is less, there is still a desire to use thepleasant scents that are offered by scented massage oils, potpourri, andpotpourri enhancer oils (refresher oils) to make life more pleasant. Manypeople use potpourri scents to evoke feelings and set environments. The rangeof scents is so broad today that just about any environment or condition can beevoked; from tropical melon, ChristmasMe' Lange for the holidays Mom’skitchen (apples and spice), and warm southern nights, magnolia blossom justto name a few.
