Fighting fit, I hope. Well, the Community Survey response has been very poor, with just over 1000 completed, so I have extended it to tomorrow, November 15. This is really important guys, this is your community and you need to tell us what you want. Come on, get on board. The Community Survey helps guide us for the next four of five years, so everyone, including kids and seniors, get yours filled in. Remember the new deadline is tomorrow, November 15, so head to the Litchfield Council website www.litchfield.nt. gov.au to complete your survey TODAY. OK, put your hands up, who got an email from me? I am trying to find a direct way to communicate with you. We want to keep you informed of what’s happening and quickly. We’re also looking at setting up an electronic mailing list for those wishing to join. Keep checking our website: www.litchfield.nt.gov.au and please come along to your local public meeting. Tell us how you think we can better communicate. THE wet season is well and truly here, already having a number of storms around the rural area, so please stay safe, protect your property and family and remember to have your cyclone kit ready. Please don’t leave it to the last minute. The emergency crews are out there fighting to keep us all safe so, if you don’t have one, grab a high visibility property sign. That’s the red and white number sign. They are only $20 and your local brigade will put them up for you — now how’s that for service? THANK you to those few who attended the council’s East Ward public meeting with local councillor Mike Bowman. It was disappointing to see so few and we are hoping that councillor Terry Richards’ Central Ward public meeting gathers a much bigger crowd. Just remember, it’s not only about complaints at the meetings. It’s also about getting to know your local councillor, coming in with your ideas for your area, and telling us all the good things that are happening. Please come along to meet Terry and myself at the Central Ward meeting on Wednesday, November 21, to be held at the Litchfield Council Chambers. COUNCIL recently purchased three new Massey Ferguson tractors ready for our mobile workforce starting at the end of this month. The tractors with slasher and front buckets were purchased from David Sanderson and his team at Farmworld in Humpty Doo. I RECENTLY attended the Zero Waste Summit in Melbourne and LGANT meeting in Alice Springs. The summit made me think of how we could create and adopt a zero waste approach in the Litchfield Municipal. At Alice Springs, the council showed us around its waste management system. Did you know that in some places, they process 80 per cent of their waste and are working on the rest? Lastly, I would like to thank all those families that have been recycling. Compared to the same time last year, the council has reduced landfill by 1005.54 tonnes — that’s through you recycling and is a saving of $124,928.20. Well done. Please encourage your friends to recycle, also.
