A storm system will push through the region early nextweek. Models are not in ull agreement on when and howmuch snow well get, but colder air is denitely in store by theearly in the coming week. Looking at Tanksgiving Day and the MacysTanksgiving Day Parade, as a strong winter storm bearsdown on the East Coast with a messy mix o snow, rain andwind, a threat has emerged which could ground giant balloon versions o Snoopy and SpongeBob SquarePants. Balloons have only been grounded once in the parades87-year history, when bad weather kept them rom ying in1971. But due to a ew o balloon wrecks (in 1993, high windsblew a Sonic the Hedgehog balloon and a dinosaur ballooninto lampposts, causing damage; in 2005 the M&Ms balloonscareened out o control be ore they snagged a light post, injuring two; and the most serious incident occurring in1997, when 43 mph winds caused the Cat in the Hat balloonto slam into a lamppost, jarring loose a metal ragment thatcollided with a womans head dang-near killed her) NewYork City rules dictate that the giant balloons cant take ighti sustained winds exceed 23 mph, or gusts exceed 34 mph.Tey could be seeing sustained winds between 15 and 25 mphwith gusts up to 35 mph tomorrow.

Refrigerate your pumpkin pie Creamy pumpkin pie is as much a Tanksgivingtradition as turkey. Te smell o pumpkin pie bakingbrings back, and creates, delicious holiday memories. Justas we take special care to ensure the sa ety o our loved onesby handling our turkey sa ely be ore and afer cooking, pumpkin pie also has special handling instructions. Pumpkin pie is made with milk and eggs to create acustard. Even afer sa ely baking to an internal temperatureo 160F, it must be re rigerated. Eggs and milk havehigh protein and moisture content. When these bakedgoods are lef at room temperature, conditions are ripe

or harm ul bacteria to multiply. Grocery stores can storetheir pumpkin pies on the shel because they include shelstable ingredients (preservatives). I you like your pumpkin

pie warm rather than chilled try 10 to 30 seconds in themicrowave be ore eating. Warm just one piece at a time.

Fruit pies may be stored at room temperature orup to 2 days. Tey will last days longer, however, i youre rigerate them. It is important to keep your entire Tanksgivingdinner sa e by keeping hot oods hot and cold oods cold.Hot oods should be held at 140F and cold oods shouldbe kept at 40F or colder. Afer serving oods, plan tohave lefovers back in the re rigerator within two hours.Any longer than that and harm ul bacteria could begin tomultiply. Have a Food Sa e Tanksgiving Day!
