A senior union member of the N a t i o n a l U n i o n o f Mineworkers (NUM) died after chaos erupted at Northam Platinum. The result was that Northam Platinum had to shut down its mine on Sunday evening because of the high tension. Northam had stopped sending employees underground at its Limpopo mine on Sunday evening, CEO Paul Dunne said. Vehicles were set alight on Monday morning. One person has died after being stabbed with an assegai. He was reportedly an Amcu member.This comes after 45 year-old Mthetheleli Zefunele was shot and killed on Sunday afternoon.According to the police's Ronél Otto, Zefunele was a Northam Platinum Mine employee."Zefunele was shot in the head by an unknown suspect who fled on foot. The deceased was a member of NUM," Otto said.Police firing rubber bullets had dispersed the two groups and quieted down the unrest on Monday afternoon according to the police.

Ek het hom laat verstaan dat ek sy foto gaan plaas en meld dat dit sy gebrekkige bestuur is wat lei tot die toestand van die

pad. Hy was baie ingenome daarmee. Hy het gesê enige publisiteit vir hom is goeie publisiteit en dat hy in die aand tussen sy pelle ge-komplimenteer sou word oor hy ons frustreer. Dieselfde met die belhamels wat so twee jaar terug die waterwerke saboteer het. Hulle het kom poseer vir ’n foto en gevra dat ek dit publiseer, sodat hulle “heroes” kan wees onder hulle maters. Daarom plaas ek lankal nie meer fotos van sulke mense in hierdie koerant nie. Dit is my besigheid en ek kan daardie besluit neem sonder druk van ’n korporatiewe hoofkantoor. Geen sensasie vir hulle nie, jammer. Lekker om te sien dat die Highlands Panorama

ook op hierdie gebied voorgeloop het! Die hoofstroom media kan gerus maar by ons en by die SAUK kers opsteek oor hierdie beleid. Hulle moet ophou mor. Dit druis nie in teen mediavryheid nie. Dit is ’n redakteur se reg om te filtreer wat hy of sy plaas. Inteendeel, dit is myns insiens sy plig om te verhoed dat dit wat hy plaas nie kriminele elemente aanspoor tot verdere geweld en vernietiging nie. Deur dit te doen speel hulle in diegene se hande en word die kriminele se status verhef tot helde van die sogenaamde rewolusie. Enigiets om jou kwaad te maak. Ons bly om bepaalde redes weg van sulke sensasie. Ons verteenwoordig goeie waardes en norme waar ons kan. Negatiewe stories kry wel publisiteit, maar ons verkoop nie koerante nie. Yes I did have to wait in a queue, but I did so seated on a comfortable chair with a numbered ticket printed with the amount of time I could expect to wait to be helped! This makes your wait in the “queue” comfortable and the pleasant atmosphere makes people feel relaxed. I think the thing I was most impressed by was the fact that all the staff were working, every terminal was operational - my experience with the other banks in town is only 2 or 3 tellers out of the six are functioning, same with consultants and if someone is important enough to have their own office the door is always closed and normally the office is located away from the general public. IN 2015 a school girl from Lydenburg attended the Special Olympic games in Los Angeles and represented South Africa in swimming. Carol Malinga (16) is a student at Estralita School. FORD's tiny yet powerful 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has been voted best in class at the International Engine of the Year Awards for the fifth year in a row. Judges praised the combination of drivability, performance, economy, refinement and technology that continues to set the standard.

The frugal three-cylinder EcoBoost engine was named "Best Engine Under 1.0-litre" by a panel of 65 automotive journalists, from 31 countries, to win its class each and every year since launch. This year it finished ahead of 32 competitor engines, 19 more than it competed against in 2012. Significantly, 2015 also saw an increase in competition from global automotive manufacturers of sub 1.0-litre, turbocharged engines with direct fuel injection.

In 2014, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost became the first engine to be named overall International Engine of the Year for a third time in a row, and also was in 2012 named "Best New Engine."

OPHERS Charity Golf is a social organisation to raise funds for charity in our local area and they enjoy a game of Ggolf while contributing to the cause.

It takes place on a rotational basis between the Lydenburg, Pilgrims and Tubatse Golf Clubs. The winners over the last three competitions were Patrick Khoze at Pilgrims Rest Course in March, Fanie Bam in Lydenburg in April, and Obed Masego at Tubatse in May. An internal players league point system is used. The top 5 players are Thomas Maleka and Albert Moropane, both on 26 points, Grant James on 25 points, Obed Mashego on 22 points and Tiaan Erasmus on 20 points. In the past Gophers has made donations to Lelievlei, a new wheelchair for a seven year old paraplegic boy, Feed a Child and this year Gophers are working towards raising funds for Anhilde de Jager, a nine year old girl who is in need of a cochlear ear operation. THE 2016 Comrades ultra marathon has come and gone. This was the 91st running of this prestigious race and was once again won by South African runners, male and female.Leboka Noto the big hammer from Modikwa north shaft again showed what a champion he is finishing this grueling race in a time of 06:36:05 in the 88th position, Leboka suffered with cramps from Pinetown and found the last few kilometers very difficult. At times in the race he was in position 12 and looking very good to again reach the top 10. He has four gold medals to his name and can still do it again.Capri Maluleke, the teams comrades novice completed the race in a very respectable time of 11:13:54, this was a big challenge that he has successfully accomplished, all in the team are very proud of him.The rest of the team all completed the race in very respectable times.The team would like to thank management for the awesome support they received with the Comrades for transport and accommodation, the team could not have achieved these great results without the support! Thank you to all the fellow employees that sent messages and watched the race from the early hours of the morning until the last gun went to signal the end of the race and the last post was played!

BABERTON staan tans op nommer een op die punteleer maar het die afgelope Saterdag in Lydenburg hul eers te nederlaag gely vir die seisoen. Rooikatte het gewen met 26 - 14. Twee drieë deur Ruhan Bouwer, een deur Francois Faulds en een deur Marius Albrecht het die weegskaal in die guns van die Rooikatte geswaai. Die beste voorspeler van die wedstryd was Ruhan Bouwer en die beste agterspeler van die wedstryd was Gerhard Strydom. Rooikatte speel nou komende Saterdag in Nelspruit - sterkte manne!
