Volgens polisieberigte het vier rowers hom gedwing om sy kluis oop te sluit. Brig. Selvy Mohlala het gesê dat hulle Van Tonder van 'n vuurwapen en kontant beroof het. Van Tonder is eers heelwat later gevind en die rowers het met sy bakkie gevlug. Die burgerregte-organisasie, Afriforum, spreek gereeld opnuut hul kommer uit oor plaasaanvalle.

Daar vind elke maand tientalle sulke aanvalle plaas deur die land. AfriForum se veldtog sluit bewusmakings- en protesaksies in, sowel as 'n s t r a t e g i e w a a r v o l g e n s g e m e e n s k a p s -veiligheidsnetwerke regoor Suid-Afrika op die been gebring kan word. Teen Dinsdag (3 Junie) was sy oë steeds toegeswel. Sy vrou was ten tye van die aanval nie by die huis nie.

ZUMA se radikale ekonomiese-transformasieagenda het eiendomsreg in visier.Volgens die sakeregtewaghond AfriSake moet Suid-Afrikaners nie ekonomiese groei met radikale ekonomiese transformasie verwar nie. Ekonomiese groei bring verhoogde produktiwiteit mee, terwyl radikale ekonomiese transformasie aggressiewe herverdeling van bates behels. Volgens AfriSake se uitvoerende hoof, Cornelius Jansen van Rensburg, is die regering reeds besig om 'n omvattende

beleidsraamwerk ter ondersteuning van radikale ekonomiese transformasie op te stel. Een van die beleidsinstrumente wat gebruik g a a n w o r d , i s d i e N a s i o n a l e Ontwikkelingsplan (NOP). Die NOP word verkeerdelik as 'n pro-ekonomiese beleidstuk voorgehou. “Die beoogde inperking van eiendomsreg, die aftakeling van ? onafhanklike regbank en die verdringing van die privaat en burgerlike sektore is genoeg rede om ernstige voorbehoude oor die NOP te hê,” het Jansen van Rensburg gesê.Regeringsbeleid is die minimum aanduider vir staatsinmenging in die ekonomie. Indien die NOP se voorstelle oor grondhervorming byvoorbeeld geïmplementeer sou word, sal dit ? regsbasis skep vir die staat om ook op die herverdeling van ander landsburgers se eiendom te kan aandring. “Ten einde die NOP behoorlik te kan evalueer, moet ons dieper delf as die oënskynlike groeivriendelikheid daarvan,” het Jansen van Rensburg gesê. “By nadere ondersoek sien ? mens ernstige skendings van eiendomsreg en ? radikale ekonomiese transformasieagenda, met beleid wat nie ekonomiese groei sal aanwakker nie."

DIE korrupsie en wanadministras ie in munisipaliteite lei tot stakings, klipgooiery, brandstigting en verset.Mens sou dink omdat almal in opstand is hieroor, ons sal saamstaan en mekaar ondersteun om dié euwel uit te roei. Maar nee. Dit lei tot nog verdeeldheid, beskuldigings, verdenking en ’n rugstekery, selfs onder homogene groepe en vriende. Besigheidsmense kyk

anders na sake as werkers, of ander inwoners in die dorp. Baie verskille is diep gewortel. Maar selfs sakemense verskil heftig van mekaar.’n Voorbeeld: Moet ons almal saamstaan en self inspring om die infrastruktuur van die dorp te red? Baie dink so, maar baie sê ook dit beteken ons doen dan die vrot stadsraad se werk wat hulle verder in hulle kwaad strek. By implikasie is die wat help, volgens party dus ook korrup.Ons weerhou dienstegeld en probeer alles om die stadsraad vervang te kry, sonder sukses. Die stadsraad gee nie om nie. Hulle is niks gewoond nie en totale verval is hulle norm. Hulle word beskerm

deur arbeidswetgewing en die stembus. Ons wat protesteer, trek aan die kortste end. Wat nou? Doen ons niks, of maak ons goed self reg, vir onsself en teen ons standaarde?Ek neig om laasgenoemde standpunt te steun. Dit is die basis waarop ons destyds die land gebou het. Ek soek my water en krag en kan nie bekostig om my voertuig in die slaggate te breek nie. Dit gaan wel teen my grein om munisipale rekeninge te betaal as ek nog moet uithaal om hulle werk te doen, terwyl die bliksems lag. So ons verskil oor die metode. Dit is so dat dié ouens wat wil help, vrywillig en in goedertrou optree. Heel paaie is tot my en jou voordeel. Oor hierdie feit kan ons gelukkig saamstem! Kom ons tree in goedertrou op.

Al het ek hoe gestrek, my vingers wou net nie bykom nie. Dit was die eerste ding wat ek in die oggend gedoen het en die laaste ding voor slaaptyd. Ek was seker so drie of vier jaar oud. Hoe moes ek nou weet ‘n kind groei net 'n fraksie van 'n

millimeter per dag. As ek aan my oor kon raak sou ek skoolgereed wees. Dit was my grootste wens, om elke dag saam met my ma Elize en tante Alwien Koeleman skool toe te gaan… en groot te word. Met blanke onskuld aanvaar kinders dat die lewe rooskleurig is. Hulle is fris, vrolik en spontaan en verstaan nie die lelik in die lewe nie. Toemaar. Ons gaan nie oor trauma wat kinders kan beleef praat in Hoorhierso nie. Ek het 'n maand of wat gelede die vêr verkeerde kant van 30 bereik. Vroeg in jou twintigs is die lewe 'n lied. Jy is op universiteit en dit is net vriende en kuierplekke vir 'n vale. Die studies was nooit my hoofprioriteit nie, maar ek het gewéét hoe om te kuier. Tog het ek getrou geslaag elke jaar, eintlik goed gevaar. Vandag voel ek aardig omdat ek so graag universiteit toe wou gaan en die huis verlaat. Die kokon van veiligheid wat om jou gespin word in jou ouerhuis is baie aanloklik. En ek het die res van my twintigs probeer om in die kokon terug te klim. Ek het egter nie dieselfde gevoel oor hierdie ouderdom wat ek tans is nie. Die gevoel kan eerder beskryf word as 'n olifantbul met 'n seer tand. Altyd heerlik eerlik hierdie ouderdom doen dit nie vir my nie. Aan die ander kant besef ek dat die lewe nog oop voor my is, 'n hele avontuur kan wees. Ek weet nie hoe ek vir die wêreld voorkom nie... Maar vir my lyk dit of ek niks meer was as 'n rooikop dogtertjie wat sorgelose vreugde boeke en diere geniet het nie, terwyl die groot oseaan van waarheid nog heeltemal onontdek voor my gelê het.Vandag is my arms lank genoeg om aan albei ore te raak. t is no small task to provide hundreds of meals to underprivileged children in Mashishing. It is a passion for the Mashishing Multipurpose Centre to Imake sure that these children receive at least one healthy meal a day.

There is big concern for the children, especially during school holidays and over weekends. Their parents sometimes do not have the money to feed them properly.

Food for hungry childrenThis centre sometimes sends food home with the children, but it is never enough. Alexander Forbes was gracious enough to donate groceries to the Centre and came to deliver it on Friday. It is much appreciated and the caregivers and helpers sighed with relief that they can provide meals for another week or two at least. ~ Michelle Boshoff

DIE Wildevy manne is ’n nie- winsgewende organsasie deur manne uit die gemeenskap om fondse vir minderbevoorregtes in die gemeenskap in te samel. Die 4x4 gesinsdag is een van hul jaarlikse projekte. Dit vind plaas op 26 Julie by PLM boerderye, 10km buite Burgersfort, op die Lydenburg-R37 pad. Die hele gemeenskap, wat besighede en mynbedrywe insluit, is betrokke by hierdie dag.Hierdie 4X4 dag groei elke jaar geweldig baie. In 2013 het 120 4X4 voertuie deelgeneem en ongeveer 7000 tot 10 000 besoekers het die dag saam geniet.Die baan is baie uitdagend en interessant. Dis opgestel om normale viertrek voertuie nie te beskadig nie. Die hele gesin kan deelneem aan pret uitdagings soos lemoene gooi, windbuks skiet en ander 4x4 verwante uitdagings. Almal kan groot pryse wen. Die Wildevy MTB Bergfiets wedren vind plaas in ’n 70km, 35km, 10km en ’n 2km pret trap vir kinders onder 12. Bekende gesigte in die fietsrywêreld word verwag. Glencore's Thorncliffe Mine recently hosted a group of United Kingdom based university students as part of their programme to understand hard rock mining in South Africa. The group of 23 students from Imperial College London, led by Professor Dennis Buchanan, undertook an underground mine visit at the operation, a first for some of the students who were part of the delegation. “Each year I arrange an excursion in May to South Africa for the group MSc Metals and Energy Finance students,” said Prof Buchanan. “In the past this has included a visit to Glencore's Lion Ferrochromium operations in the itinerary. underground operators to making the process successful was quite uplifting.

“It was a real privilege for all of us to see them in action,” added Prof. Buchanan.

VEHICLE hijacking has increased by 5.4% to 9990 incidents in 2012/13, according to the South African Police Services' crime statistics.

This equates to an average of 28 hijackings a day.

Research conducted by Arrive Alive, report that most hijackings occur from 5pm to 8pm when most drivers are on their way home from work.

1st for Women Insurance's Robyn Farrell said: "You are most vulnerable when you are getting into or out of your car. Avoid leaving your car idling outside your home or garage; make sure you enter and leave your driveway as quickly as possible.

"We’ve also heard about hijackers bumping into the car in front of them, forcing the car to stop. If this happens to you, and you do not feel safe stopping your vehicle, drive to the nearest police station.”

Farrell says that while driving away from the scene of a car crash may have unforeseen legal consequences your safety and well-being should always come first. Each case will have to be assessed on its own individual merits.

TIPS TO HELP AVOID HIJACKING:

1 Have your key ready but not visible. Unlock your car when you're close by. Don’t talk on your cellphone as you walk.

2 Check the back seat before getting into your car.

3 A well-maintained car is less likely to break down and leave you

vulnerable.

4 Plan your route and let someone know what your route is and when to expect you at your destination.

5 Always check the rear view mirror to see if you are being followed.

6 Avoid driving with your windows open and keep the doors locked. Put all valuables out of sight.

7 Avoid distractions while driving such as using a cellphone.

8 If you suspect you are being followed, drive to your nearest police station or a busy public area.

9 When approaching a red traffic light, slow down so that you only reach it when it turns green.

10 Make sure your driveway is well lit and clear of shrubbery.

11 If possible, park in a central, well-lit place, preferably with guards on duty.

12 When stopping behind another vehicle, leave half a vehicle length in front so you can make an emergency escape if necessary.

13 Change your routes and your schedule if possible on a regular basis.

14 Make arriving at your destination safer by calling ahead and asking someone to open and close your gate for you.

IN an unconventional move, Volvo has released the first pictures, of the interior, of its upcoming XC90. The Swedish-based company said that it will continue to reveal aspects of the Volvo XC90 SUV up to the full reveal in August.

Going through the pictures it is notably upgraded from the rather old, current XC90. Apart from a very modern and smooth approach to the interior, the highlight is the huge integrated tablet forming part of the dashboard. The result is that less buttons are scattered throughout the cabin as most functions will be controlled through this touch screen.

In typical Volvo tradition, the company has perfectly integrated the use of leather and wood trim. Even the gearlever is made from crystal glass by Orrefors, a famous Swedish glassmaker.

This all-new XC90 is according to Volvo its first product to use its “scalable product architecture (SPA). As expected, this platform will be used for future models as it was designed with the latest safety features, in-car technologies and interior space in mind.

“Our new interior architecture is pure and uncluttered, while still radiating the sophisticated confidence and formality that luxury SUV customers expect,” said Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research and Development of Volvo Cars.

BMW's fifth generation M3 sedan and coupe, now called the M4, will arrive in South Africa later in 2014, July and October respectively. Ahead of the local launch we preview details, specifications and features of the latest-generation M-badged 3 Series.

The new models mark a shift from the automaker's M-cars naturally aspirated engines to a new turbocharged era, as the M3 and M4 will be powered by a twin-turbo inline six.

The BMW M3 will set you back R955 592 and the M4 R997 500.

The turbo engine, mated to a six-speed manual or optional seven-speed double clutch transmission (DCT), is capable of 317kW/550Nm, which is an increase of 8kW/150Nm compared to the previous E90 M3 (309kW/400Nm).

POWER INCREASE

The power increase translates to a 0-100km/h sprint in 4.3sec (4.1sec in auto guise) for either car with top speed limited to 250km/h.

Despite the turbos, the engine’s fuel consumption (over the EU cycle) is rated at a claimed 8.8 litres/100km for the manual (8.3 for the DCT), emissions as low as 194g/km – each an improvement of more than 25% over the previous V8.

Selectable drive modes, programmable through an MDrive manager and activated via the iconic steering-wheel 'M' buttons, offer drivers a choice of pre-configured and balanced vehicle set-ups which also feature different engine sounds.

DESIGN

The new M3 sedan and M4 Coupe – essentially the same car with rear-wheel drive but the latter with a coupe shell - are formed, BMW says, “from a host of finely blended elements, all working in perfect harmony to deliver outstanding performance, precision and agility on road and track”.

The design, the automaker adds, “sought to channel air around the car in the quest for ultimate performance while also ensuring the engine, powertrain and brakes received the requisite cooling, even on a track”.

The cabin has an emphasis on sporty ambiance with traditional M-specific details: M-door sill finishers, M-gearshift lever, M-design circular instruments with white graphics, leather steering-wheel (with M logo, chromed trim and iconic triple-colour contrast stitching) and metallic shift paddles.

VOLKSWAGEN is pulling out all the stops for the Wörthersee festival later this month.

The GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo, which was just meant to be a digital representation of what the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer is capable of, will now be represented in the metal at the show.

VW recreating the Vision Gran Turismo is probably in retaliation to sister brand Audi’s announcement that it plans to showcase the A3 Clubsport Quattro at the same show which, if you don’t know by now, is a celebration of all things made under the Volkswagen AG banner, including subsidiaries like Seat and Porsche.

Bringing the Vision Gran Turismo to life will be no mean feat, considering that the two-seater boasts extreme bodywork and combines a number of styling themes being considered for future generations of Volkswagens. The low-slung roadster features a wedge-shape, wrap-around windscreen and gigantic rear wing.

Underneath the vented bonnet lies a twin-turbocharged 3,0-litre VR6 engine that produces 375 kW and 665 N.m of torque. Torque will be sent to all four corners through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and the company’s 4Motion all-wheel drive.

The Vision Gran Turismo also rides on 20-inch wheels, wrapped in 235/35 front and 275/30 rear rubber. Brake discs measuring 15 inches in front and 14 inches in the rear bring the concept to a halt.

THREE out of four British motorists would fail their driving test if they had to take it again today.

Complacency and lack of concentration - magnified by over-reliance on modern driving aids - are said to be the biggest weaknesses among those who tore up their L-plates years ago.

In an experiment organised by Direct Line insurance, 50 experienced drivers took the test - and 38 failed.

Those who failed recorded an average of three serious or dangerous faults, such as speed or failure to signal correctly, and 16 minor faults - mostly a lack of concentration. Just one major fault or more than 15 minor can fail a candidate in the UK.

Direct Line’s report said an over-reliance on driving aids - such as parking sensors or blind-spot monitors - appeared to lead to ‘complacent driving and a lack of concentration at the wheel’.

The EAAB is alive and well and fulfilling their watchdog function over estate agency affairs in the country. This was evident at the recent seminar hosted by EAAB personnel and stakeholders addressing Mpumalanga agents in White River.Mr Jimmy Baloyi, lawyer and Executive Manager for Enforcement and Compliance at the EAAB, reported on the current status of the proposed Property Practitioners Bill to be re-introduced for debate in Parliament by August 2014. He also highlighted the audit and inspection processes currently under way to ensure that all agencies comply with the legal requirements of the trade. "It is our duty to ensure the continued protection of consumers and to create an enabling environment where qualified estate agents can operate freely within the sector," Baloyi

said.Transformation in the trade through the "One Learner-One E s t a t e A g e n c y Programme" was highlighted with the plea to draw more young people to the trade, following real estate as a career.Baloyi put Home Owners Associations on the spot and emphasised that it is

illegal for any such Association to either claim a portion of agents'commission or to require that agents pay an accreditation fee to sell in a specific development.Ms Margie Campbell, Marketing and Publications Manager of the EAAB, gave an overview of the qualifications and certification process for all estate agents in the country. The cut-off date for re-qualification of all agents registered by 15 July 2008, has been set for 30 June 2015. Agents were urged to check the accreditation of training providers on the EAAB website, and not to fall prey to de-credited providers (as happened with REBS and DITASA).Once an agent has received his or her NQF certificate, he has two years to write his/her PDE exam. The EAAB allows three attempts at writing this exam- with the option of an oral exam is the agent fails for the third time.On completion of the NQF and PDE qualification, agents have to enrol for the Continual Professional Development Programme, earning 20 CPD points per year for attending EAAB seminars, and involvement in mentoring and coaching, corporate social investment and personal development initiatives.The Financial Intelligence Centre and Black Conveyancers Association also took part in this well attended annual roadshow.

SOLIDARITEIT Helpende Hand glo in armoede verligting, voorkoming en verbreking en al ons projekte poog om ten minste een van hierdie drie te doen. Mense wat hulp verlang moet ’n aansoekvorm invul sodat die omstandighede van die persoon of gesin geëvalueer kan word. Helpende Hand maak dus deel van die groter netwerk uit in sy strewe om gemeenskappe op te hef.Ons het meer as 110 takke landswyd wat deur passievolle en gedrewe vrywilligers bedryf word. Hulle is ons hande en voete en die mense wat werklik lewe gee aan die projekte wat op hoofkantoor gekonseptualiseer word. Skooltassie projek deel elke jaar tassies propvol skryfbehoeftes wat 'n kind vir Graad 1 nodig het aan behoeftige graad eens dwarsoor die land uit. Hierdie jaar is 4600 skooltassies aan behoeftige graad eens uitgedeel. Sedert die projek se ontstaan is meer as 21 000 graad eens al toegerus vir hul eerste jaar op skool.Deur middel van die Kosblikkieprojek het Helpende Hand in 2013 altesaam 6500 kleuters in 75 kleuterskole met voeding en opleiding gehelp. Daarby het 2250 onderwysers en versorgers opleiding ontvang in die Immergroen Kleuterkursus en ses studiebeurse is voorts geskep vir tersiêre opleiding in kleuteronderrig.Die Bemagtig-'n-kind projek het verlede jaar op verskeie maniere aan 461 kinders 'n hupstoot gegee, byvoorbeeld deur ekstra wiskunde klasse, arbeidsterapie of om deelname aan sport of 'n sporttoer moontlik te maak. Hierdie projek hardloop ook dwarsdeur die jaar.Die 8te-tas projek is hierdie jaar vir die eerste keer aangebied met die oog op die bevordering van graad agts se wiskundige vaardighede. Ons het hierdie jaar aan 365 Graad-8 leerders ’n rugsak uitgedeel, elk met 'n finansiële sakrekenaar en passerstel. Ook ingesluit in die pakket is die bywoning van 'n algebrakamp aangebied deur die Vereniging vir Afrikaanse Wiskunde-onderwysers (V.A.W.) en elke ontvanger van so 'n rugsakkie kan ook 'n vakkeuse toets, wat deur Helpende Hand se Beroepsleiding-afdeling aangebied word, gaan aflê.Elke jaar bied Helpende Hand ons Entrepreneurskompetisie aan waardeur

ie finale van die Indoor Myn Liga se Plaat en Super afdelings het Vrydag 23 Mei 2014 by DOppiplot Park afgespeel.

In die Plaat afdeling het KIA teen Precrete meegeding vir die trofee en het Precrete in 'n taai wedstryd met 11 lopies gewen. Precrete 113 lopies en KIA 102 lopies. In hierdie wedstryd het KIA die beste algehele kolfpaar, Wasif Mohammed en Azar met 45 lopies en Precrete die beste algehele bouler, Bossie Boshoff met -5/4, gelewer.In die Super afdeling het PAP tot die finale deurgedring, maar moes die knie buig teen Nomakanjani wat verbete geveg het om die goud te vat met 32 lopies. Nomakanjani 103 lopies en PAP 71 lopies.In hierdie wedstryd het PAP die beste algehele kolfpaar, Louwrens Volschenk (Modder) en Hugo Bothma met 39 lopies gelewer. In span Nomakanjani was die beste bouler Otto Schulze met -6/4.Om in te skryf vir die 2014 Dorp Liga wat in Augustus begin, kontak André du Preez 083 610 1241 of Mariëtta Herbst 082 213 0380. Almal is welkom, mans, dames en kinders.

Regs bo: Precrete besig met hul spel, in aksie op die baan. Links bo: Nomakanjani en PAP wys hulle is steeds beste vriende.

These athletes participated in the Two Oceans Marathon. Ronny

Maroga finished the 56 km race in 5 hours 33 minutes. Elneth Thulare finished with a time of 5 hours 49 minutes. Pienas Magashule's time

was 5 hours 6 minutes. Unfortunately Rufus Malepe, who is

also their trainer, could not participate due to illness.

The whole team participated in the Comrades Marathon.
