Kororoit Creek Primary School has a zero tolerance for any form of child abuse 01 March 2019 Community Picnic What a great evening it was! Thank you to our community for participating in our annual community picnic. It was lovely to speak with families and I know the planned activities were enjoyed by the children and adults alike. A special thank you to Emma Holmes and Sarah Weeks for organising the logistics of the evening. Another thank you to our staff for facilitating their activities. Preps This week marks the final week whereby our Prep children are part-timers! Next week they will begin full time attendance, which is very exciting. Our Prep teachers are scheduled to finish their Prep assessments and the information they have gathered about the literacy and numeracy understanding of our newest children, will form an integral part of their team planning and data discussions. School Council As you are aware our process of nominating and electing our 2019 School Council is well under way. Our call for nominations ceases today and the list of candidates and nominators will be shared with the community on Wednesday 6 th March. If the number of candidates is larger than the 2 parent positions available, we will distribute ballot papers and our families will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidate. Curriculum Days Last week our standing School Council approved the change of date for one of our Curriculum Days. This year, in partnership with our Student Leaders and based upon feedback from our parents, I would like to synthesise the Parent/Teacher interview and Student Led Conference. This will allow our children to speak about their learning but also give parents an opportunity to speak to their child’s teacher. These sessions will take place over two nights, in the second week of Term 3. We will use one of our Curriculum Days to begin these interviews at an earlier time. Monday May 20 th Curriculum Day no children at school Wednesday 24 th July Curriculum Day no children at school P/T Interviews & SLC to begin in the afternoon Thursday 25 th July Regular attendance for children. Interviews to continue after school. Monday 4 th November Curriculum Day no children at school Resilience Project Last week our students undertook The Resilience Youth Survey. This scientifically validated wellbeing survey has been completed by over 200,000 students across Australia and this data informs the content of our work for the remainder of the year. The anonymous questions were designed to gauge the greatest need within our student community. We have an upcoming professional learning session with our staff to unpack this data with the support of a Resilience Project member. Classes have received their student journals and teacher resource pack. We are excited to begin this next chapter in supporting our students to become grateful, mindful and empathetic. School Captains/Student Empowerment Group Sarah Garcia and I have been working closely with our School Captains this term as part of our new ‘Student Empowerment Group’. The agenda for these fortnightly meetings has been jam-packed! We have discussed the role and responsibilities that are part of captaincy but more importantly how we grow the leadership and agency of all children at KCPS. Some of our captains have also spoken to staff at our weekly briefing and we are planning a professional learning session for teachers after school that will be facilitated by some of our school captains. Programme of Inquiry At KCPS, our curriculum is organised under 6 Transdisciplinary Themes. These Transdisiplinary Themes, selected by the IBO, represent the significant knowledge and understandings students will develop throughout their years in the Primary Years Programme. Each year, students engage in Units of Inquiry designed to further develop their understanding of these themes. These units form our Programme of Inquiry. The Programme of Inquiry guides the teaching and learning at KCPS. Teachers plan to develop literacy and numeracy skills as well as approaches to learning as part of these units. Our Programme of Inquiry (POI) draws on the Victorian Curriculum as well as the essential elements of the Primary Years Programme. You can access the 2019 POI on the school website, through this link: https://kororoitcreekps.vic.edu.au/curriculum/#thisyear
