Funding – provide overview of potential sources and opportunities.Projects – outline proposed ideas and how they fit with each funding source.Survey – identify community priorities.Conversation – allow community to provide feedback to Council and Shire staff.COVID 19 – provide update on how Council and the community have managed thechallenge.

Welcome back to another CEO Corner. Seeding is drawing to a close, hopefully a bit more rainlate this week and it looks like FOOTY is back on TV.  This week saw us resume even more of anormality around the community. The Caravan Park and RV area have been opened for a few,CRC services are back to normal and now the FRC, gym and playgrounds have reopened inaccordance with relevant restrictions. June and July pose a bit of hectic month for Shire staff in the preparation of Council budget for2020/21. An additional spanner has been thrown into these processes with COVID-19, but onesuch challenge is ability to determine how Kulin Shire Council is going to allocate and spend anadditional $1.1M of funding grants allocated by the Federal Government towards communityinfrastructure. These are in the form of the following grants.

There are also various opportunities through State Government funding for community andrecreation infrastructure and economic development, available that Shire staff areinvestigating, these include:

As part of the project development process Council is seeking community input and feedbackregarding projects identified to determine the key priorities for community infrastructurerequirements that resonate within the community.  Council are proposing to engage with thecommunity via a proposed Community Workshop on Thursday 11th June 2020. The purposesof this proposed Workshop are:

The Community Workshop will also contribute towards the initial stages of Council updating itsStrategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan, both of which are due for a majorreview in 2020/21 financial year. It will allow the community members the opportunity to putforward ideas for consideration as part of the review process.

Next week sees our June Council Meeting. A key component of this will be Council discussingpotential inclusions for 2020/21 Budget in preparation for adopting this budget at the JulyMeeting. Friday 29th May 2020 marked a very special milestone for Shire staff. It was with greatpleasure that we were able to hold a surprise celebratory morning tea to recognise TarynScadding’s 20 years of service with the Shire of Kulin. On behalf of Council I’d like to publiclyacknowledge this achievement and length of service from Taryn who, as our CommunityDevelopment Officer, is an active driver within the organisation for community engagementand understanding and implementing the wider initiatives of the community and Council.Congratulations Taryn and I think the highlight of the morning was being able to keep it asecret from her. Council will further celebrate Taryn’s service with a formal function at a laterdate to be determined along with other staff milestones. We continue to thank the community for their on-going understanding and adherence to theCOVID-19 restrictions. Until next time safe travels.

KULIN UPDATE   1 1 J U N E 2 0 2 0

As restrictions imposed by the government in response to the worldwideglobal pandemic are slowly eased, we see a very gradual return of activityand life to the FRC.  Clubs are now allowed to return to training and currentlydifferent sports are assessing the best way forward with regard to a returnto competition (or not).As of this week the FRC will return to a bit more regular opening hours forvarious activities.  It will still be a week by week basis but for now we are ableto welcome sporting teams back for training purposes.  Both junior netballand junior hockey have commenced training sessions and it’s been great tosee the kids back out there enjoying their sporting opportunities.  AusKick and Junior Footy training both kick off this Friday and I am sure allthe juniors will be happy to dust off their footy boots and get back intothings. The Golf Club have started regular Sunday sessions and had a great turnoutof 12 for their opening round on Sunday.  Anyone is welcome so if you arekeen for a round of golf head into the FRC at 11.30 on a Sunday ready for a12 noon tee off.The Gym here will be available to members but only when there is a staffmember on-site.  Government stipulations state that gyms are able to openbut only if they are staffed due to hygiene and cleaning regulations.  For thisreason, the “self-serve” facility will not be available until further notice and/oreasing of restrictions.  If you want to head in for a work out either comedown and see if I am in the office or call ahead to make sure I am here.  Apologies for any inconvenience but we really need to remain vigilant withregard to the guidelines communicated by the WA Government and HealthDepartment.Sport really does bind a community and I think as the weeks elapse and weadapt accordingly it will be healthy for us all to become involved in somephysical activity and social engagement again. Thanks for your support.Until next time….

This week we celebrated “World Environment Day” and “World OceansDay”. This was a great opportunity to discuss with the children the

impact we as humans have on the environment and little changes we canmake. A group mandala was created with recycled products and

cardboard fish from the different types of rubbish found in and aroundthe ocean. We are very fortunate to have the space for a compost bin,

vegie garden, adjoining community garden and chooks in our centre, all ofwhich enable us to embed the importance of sustainability and respect for

the environment into everyday practice.
